(10/032) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Prison…
According to news reports on October 4, 2025, it was learned that prisoners’ sports rights were restricted at Erzincan High Security Prison and that some personal belongings, books, and written works belonging to prisoners were confiscated during cell searches.
According to news reports on October 6, 2025, journalist Furkan Karabay, who is being held at Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) Type L Prison No. 9, was placed in a single cell.
(10/033) Persons on Trial in Istanbul…
The trial of 87 people at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No. 62, who were charged for participating in protests in Saraçhane and Beyazıt Squares in the Fatih district of Istanbul to protest the arrest and detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, continued on October 3, 2025. The indictment seeks to punish the defendants for “violating Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations.” The court adjourned the hearing until November 28, 2025.
At the first hearing of the case, the court ruled that the files of eight journalists and four lawyers who were prosecuted as part of the same investigation should be separated.

The case against author Yavuz Ekinci, brought before the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 23 on the grounds of his book Rüyası Bölünenler (Those Whose Dreams Were Divided), published by Doğan Kitap in 2014, was dismissed. However, the Istanbul Regional Court of Appeals overturned this decision, and the case resumed on October 6, 2025. The court adjourned the hearing until November 10, 2025.
On March 14, 2023, the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No. 7 imposed a ban on the printing, distribution, and sale of the book in question and ordered its confiscation.
(10/035) Trial of a Police Officer in Ankara…
The trial of a police officer named O.P. at the Ankara Criminal Court of First Instance No. 18, regarding the injury of lawyer Musa Avcıoğlu during a police intervention at a protest in front of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, began on October 6, 2025. The indictment seeks punishment for the defendant police officer on charges of “exceeding the limits of his authority to use force and intentionally causing injury resulting in bone fracture.” The court rejected the plaintiff lawyers’ requests to hear witnesses and adjourned the hearing until January 18, 2026.

According to news reports on October 3, 2025, the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) imposed two separate administrative fines on Tele 1 channel for the text displayed on screen in the program “Türkiye’nin Yönü” (Turkey’s Direction) and for the statements used in the program “4 Soru 4 Yanıt” (4 Questions 4 Answers); Sözcü TV was fined for the statements made by Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputies who participated in the program “Sözün Aslı”; Halk TV was fined for the statements made in the program “Açıkça”; An administrative fine was imposed on Sun RTV for violating the broadcast ban decision in the “İçel Gündemi” program; An administrative fine was imposed on Meltem TV due to the statements of a guest on the “Eylül Han ile Gündem Özel” program.
(10/037) Individuals Detained as Part of an Istanbul-Based Investigation…
On October 3, 2025, as part of an Istanbul-based investigation, five doctors were detained in operations carried out in three provinces (Istanbul, Mardin, Konya) on the grounds that they were members of the organization, that they had accounts at Bank Asya, that they were contacted sequentially as a secret communication method of the organization, and that they were in contact with the administrator of the Medical Specialization Entrance Exam (TUS).
