(11/037) Male Violence Monitoring Report…

According to the “Male Violence Monitoring Report” published by Bianet on November 3, 2023, at least 21 women and 1 child were killed by men across Turkey in October 2023. It is also stated in the release that men inflicted violence on at least 69 women, harassed 291 women, and abused 13 children.

(11/038) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 3, 2023, that 4 militants died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in the Hakurk area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (IKBY) on August 24, 2023.

Ministry of National Defense (TSK) announced that 1 soldier (Samet Bektaş) died due to an explosion during the passage of a military vehicle in Başkale district of Van on November 4, 2023.

On November 5, 2023, the Ministry of National Defense announced that 1 soldier (Onur Özbek) died as a result of a firearm accident in Syria.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 6, 2023, that Artun Tokatlı, pastor of a church in the Odunpazarı district of Eskişehir, was physically assaulted by a person named İ. Ö. on October 30, 2023. It is learned that İ. Ö., who said in his statement, “I was excited because he said that Christians would reward and forgive those who do evil. I slapped him to test whether a reward really be given”, was released on judicial control condition by the court and was later admitted to Eskişehir City Hospital High-Security Forensic Psychiatry ward to determine whether he was mentally healthy or not by the decision of Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 4, 2023 that, Hüda Kaya, former Istanbul MP of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) who was arrested on November 1, 2023 and taken to Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) Prison, is being kept in a single room.

It is learned from news coverage of November 6, 2023, that prisoners in Çorum Open Prison who enrolled in Çorum Hitit University were not allowed to attend classes on “security grounds” by the decision of the University Senate.

(11/041) Police Intervention Against Press Statement in Istanbul…

The police prevented the press declaration of Saturday Mothers/People at Galatasaray Square in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on November 4, 2023. It is learned that one person among Saturday Mothers/People left a carnation at Galatasaray Square after the police prevention. It is reported that the police prevented journalists and those who were monitoring on behalf of rights organizations.

(11/042) Police Intervention Against Protest in Adana…

The police used tear gas and pressurized water cannons to intervene with the people who wanted to march to the Incirlik Military Base in Adana on November 5, 2023, to protest Israel’s attacks on Gaza. It is learned that no one was detained due to police intervention.

The police prevented the press statement of Tülay Çal, who was dismissed from her job at Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, in front of the municipality building on November 6, 2023. It is learned that Tülay Çal made a press statement in another place after being prevented by the police.

(11/044) Person Detained in Diyarbakır…

On November 5, 2023, Fatma Aydın, mother of Amedspor football player Oktay Aydın, was detained during the game on the grounds that she did not stand up during the national anthem before Amedspor Etimesgut Belediyespor game and was released after statement procedures at the police.

(11/045) People Detained in Şırnak…

2 of 5 people (Mesut Avil and Hasan Azma) who were detained in the Silopi district of Şırnak on November 1, 2023, including 2 children, were arrested by the court on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’ on November 3, 2023. 3 people were released on judicial control condition.

(11/046) Journalist on Trial in İstanbul…

The final hearing of the case against journalist Rabia Çetin for a social media post was held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 23 on November 6, 2023. The indictment demands a sentence for Rabia Çetin on the charges of ‘targeting officials who took part in the fight against terrorism’ and ‘publicly degrading a public officer over their duty’. The court acquitted Rabia Çetin.

(11/047) The Case Against Saturday Mothers/People in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 46 people, including Saturday Mothers and rights defenders, who were detained during the police intervention against the 700th week session of Saturday Mothers/People, continued on November 3, 2023 at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 21. The indictment demands a sentence for 46 people on the charge of ‘violating Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’. The court rejected the lawyers’ demand for immediate acquittal and adjourned the trial to April 5, 2024.

(11/048) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

On November 3, 2023, Urfa Siverek Penal Court of Peace ruled to delete the news reports on https://www.birgun.net, https://www.evrensel.net, https://www.hurriyet.com.tr websites about “Operation KALDIRIM” in 2007, which were banned to be accessed within the scope of ‘right to be forgotten’.
