(01/022) Male Violence Monitoring Report…

According to the ‘Male Violence Monitoring Report’ published by Bianet on 6 January 2025, at least 19 women and 2 children were killed by men across Turkey in December 2024. It is also stated in the report that men inflicted violence on at least 56 women, harassed 11 women, abused 20 children, and forced 217 women to sex work.

(01/023) Meeting Requests with Abdullah Öcalan not Responded to…

It is learned that the appeal made on January 3, 2025, to the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s family and tutelary along with the families and tutelary of Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison was not responded.

A person named Murat Övüç is detained on January 5, 2025 in İstanbul for ‘publicly degrading religious values’ on the grounds of a social media post by him. He is released on the same day by criminal peace judgeship with a judicial control condition.

Sabri Uzun, the former head of the Intelligence Department of the Turkish National Police, who was detained in Istanbul on January 2, 2025, for insulting the President on social media, was released on January 3, 2025, by criminal peace judgeship with a travel ban.

(01/026) Journalist Under Investigation…

The Hatay Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into journalist Aslıhan Gençay on charges of ‘unlawfully obtaining personal data’, ‘publicly disseminating misleading information’, and ‘insult’ due to her article titled ‘Are they bounty hunters or respectable businessmen of Hatay?’. It has been learned that the journalist went to the police station on January 2, 2025, to give a statement as part of the investigation.

(01/027) Tahir Elçi Case…

It is learnt from the news coverage of 4 January 2025 that 10th Criminal Chamber of the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Justice rejected the appeal against the acquittal of police officers F.T., M.S., and S.T. in the case of the murder of Tahir Elçi, the former head of the Diyarbakır Bar Association, who was killed in Diyarbakır on November 28, 2015.

(01/028) Bolu Municipality’s Discriminatory Practices…

In a statement to the press on January 5, 2025, Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan claimed that he had implemented unlawful and discriminatory practices against Syrian refugees and migrants: “It was against the law. They could have taken it to court and maybe won, but you’re most powerful right after you’re elected. It was a shock to them, they didn’t know what hit them. When I saw that enough people weren’t leaving, being a lawyer myself, I hiked up the fees for marriage licenses and water. That was illegal too. I knew the court would overturn it. In fact, it was overturned before it even took effect.”

The https://siyasihaber9.org website of Siyasal Haber paper was banned from access by Ankara 10th Criminal Peace Judgeship on January 2, 2024 on the grounds of preventing national security and public order.

The https://yeniyasamgazetesi8.com website of Yeni Yasam new paper was banned from access by Diyarbakır 4th Criminal Peace Judgeship on January 2, 2024 on the grounds of preventing national security and public order.
