It is learned from the news coverage of May 31, 2023 that, 2 militants died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Besta area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on May 16 and 17, 2023.

It is learned that, a 15-year-old child (Muhammed Eslek) who was injured by the fire opened by those who celebrate the election results in Toroslar district of Mersin, died in hospital on May 30, 2023.
On May 30, 2023, anonymous person or persons carried on an armed attack on the Republican People’s Party (CHP) neighbourhood office in Gaziosmanpaşa district of Istanbul. It is learned that there were no casualties.
It is learned from the news coverage of May 30, 2023 that, the bakery of a person named K. Y. who had allegedly a quarrel with a person celebrating the election results in Sultangazi district of Istanbul, was sealed and the baker’s business licence was cancelled by the municipality. It is reported that the bakery owner K. Y. was detained by the police on the same day.
It is learned from the news coverage of May 30, 2023, that journalist Irina Alleman, who came to Turkey from Russia to monitor the elections held on 28 May 2023, was not allowed to enter the country due to a “national security threat”. It is also stated in the news that the journalist was banned from entering Turkey for 5 years.

It is learned that Medyascope reporter Ali Macit was subjected to physical violence of a Justice and Development Party (AKP) city council member while he was reporting at Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality building.

It is learned that the appeal made on May 30, 2023 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.
(05/227) Police Intervention to Event in Istanbul…
The police prevented the candle-lighting event to be held in Şişli district of Istanbul by the Human Rights Association Istanbul branch and the HRFT as part of the 17-31 May – the Week of Struggle Against Disappearances. It is learned that the police also prevented journalists from recording. The event was held in the HRA Istanbul office upon prevention.

The trial of 2 separate cases against journalist Ahmet Sever, over his book “Not to Remain on /My Witness” and an article is held at opened at the Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 2 on May 30, 2023. The indictments demand sentence for Ahmet Sever on the charges of ‘insulting the President’ and ‘insulting a public official’. Ahmet Sever, who was abroad, did not attend the trial. The court adjourned both trials to November 9, 2023.

The trial of the case against journalist Furkan Karabay, upon the complaint of the President’s former lawyer Mustafa Doğan İnal, is held at Istanbul Civil Court of First Instance No. 33 on May 30, 2023. The court decided to wait for the finalisation of criminal suit against Furkan Karabay and adjourned the trial to December 14, 2023.

The final trial of the case against 30 people for participating in the Newroz celebration in Izmir in 2015, is held at Izmir Heavy Penal Court No. 21 on May 30, 2023. The court acquitted 26 people and separated the case against 4 people.

The final trial of the case against Peace Mother Bedia Gökgüz, on the grounds that she hung the picture of Sakine Cansız, who lost her life in an attack in Paris on 9 January 2013, on a tree as part of the 25 November International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women activities, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 28 on May 30, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for Bedia Gökgüz on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The court acquitted Bedia Gökgüz.

It is learned that 12 people were detained in operations covering 6 cities through an Istanbul based investigation on May 31, 2023.
