(01/001) Explosion in Aydın…

7 people died and 5 were injured in the explosion that was reported to have occurred during a tube change in a restaurant in Nazilli district of Aydın on December 30, 2022. It is learned that 4 of the 10 people who were detained in connection with the incident (L. Y., F. Y., A. B. and H. P.) were arrested by the court.

(01/002) Labour Killing in Izmir…

On December 30, 2022, 6 workers (Yıldırım Sarı, Fesih Çiftçi, Baykal Gürbüz, Aslan Akkaya, Ali Şükrü Duru and Ümit Kara) died and 2 workers were injured as the crane used in the construction of a hotel in Bornova district of İzmir overturned and the pieces of the it fell on the container at the construction site. It is learned that 4 people (E. Y., M. Y., F. K. A. and İ. K.) who were detained in connection with the incident were arrested by the court.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 1, 2023, that a watchman named Kemal Öner was found dead in an empty field in Yüksekova district of Hakkari. Hakkari Police Department announced that an investigation has been launched on the case.

(01/004) Person Injured by Police Fire in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of January 2, 2023 that, a person named F. A. was injured at the leg by the fire opened by the police coming after a report fired in Kanarya neighbourhood of Küçükçekmece district of Istanbul on January 1, 2023.

(01/005) Person Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment of the Police in Istanbul…

It is claimed in the news coverage of January 2, 2023 that, a person was injured by the police hitting at the head with the gunstock in Turgut Reis neighbourhood of Esenler district of Istanbul on January 1, 2023.

(01/006) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 31, 2022 that, Salih Gün, an ill prisoner who was transferred from Kırıkkale F Type Prison to Ankara Sincan High Security Prison No. 2 under coercion was being kept in a solitary cell.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 31, 2022 that, the prisoners in Afyon T Type Prison No. 1 were forced to stand up during roll-calls.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 31, 2022 that, 7 prisoners in Erzurum Dumlu High Security Prison No. 1 were given the penalty of prevention from communication rights for 14 months on the grounds of chanting slogans to protest the metal wire coverage of the ward windows.

(01/007) Hunger Strike…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 31, 2022 that, 5 prisoners (Mahir Kapan, Celil Dağtekin, Nevzat Akbulak, Ömer Özkan and Özgür Taş) who were on hunger strike to demand an end to right violations in Elazığ T Type Prison since December 22, 2022, ended the strike as their demands were met.

(01/008) Kobanê Case…

The trial of the case against 108 members and executives of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) including former co-chairs, including 20 arrestees, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 22 between December 19-30, 2022.

It is learned that the chief judge turned the microphone off while Selahattin Demirtaş was speaking at the trial held on December 19, 2022. The court rejected the recusation demand of Selahattin Demirtaş.

The court decided to continue detention of 18 people and to send the case to the prosecutor’s office for legal opinion although Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ have not made their defences yet, and adjourned the trial to February 7-9, 2023.

(01/009) Journalist Added to the “Wanted” List by the Ministry of Interior…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 30, 2022 that the Ministry of Interior added journalist Can Dündar to the list it called “terrorist wanted”.

On December 23, 2022, in the lawsuit filed against Can Dündar, regarding the publication of footage of the stopping of the National Intelligence Organisation trucks in Adana and Hatay on January 19, 2014, the court sentenced Can Dündar to 27 years and 6 months on the charge of “political or military espionage”.

(01/010) Ban of Events in Siirt…

Siirt Governorate’s Office made a declaration on December 30, 2022 and announced that all events such as press declarations, sit-in protests, meetings, opening tents and stands, collecting petitions, commemorations, festivals, concerts, theatre plays, all audio and visual events, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on, and entrance of those who came to participate in such events in the city is banned for 15 days as of December 31, 2022.
