(11/247) The Case Regarding the Dismissal of TTB Central Council Members…

The final hearing of the case on the dismissal of the members of the Central Council of the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) was held at Ankara Civil Court of First Instance No 31 on November 30, 2023. The court ruled for the dismissal of the members of the Central Council of the TTB and for the TTB to hold a congress within one month.  It is learned that the heads of Konya, Malatya, Erzurum, Samsun, and Denizli Medical Chambers were appointed as Central Council members for the suspended Central Council members.

(11/248) Torture and Ill-Treatment Under Custody in Bursa…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 28, 2023, that 2 people who were detained in the Göllüce village of the İznik district of Bursa were subjected to torture and ill-treatment at the gendarmerie station.

(11/249) Attack on a Church in Eskişehir…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 29, 2023, that 2 people forced their way into a Protestant church in Eskişehir and threatened church officials by saying “Are you Jewish or Israeli? If you call the police, I will set you on fire”. 2 people named A. K. and H. D. who have been detained in connection with the incident were arrested by the court.

(11/250) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 29, 2023, that 3 prisoners (Yusuf Bulga, Çeçen Kilkaya, and Doğan Özbahçeci) in Diyarbakır High-Security Prison No 1 were transferred to other prisons against their will and demands.

(11/251) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on November 30, 2023, to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in order to visit him was not responded to.

(11/252) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Urfa…

On November 29, 2023, gendarmerie intervened against the press statement held in front of a workplace in Urfa to protest the dismissal of a worker on the grounds of union membership and detained BİRTEK-SEN Chair Mehmet Türkmen and union representatives Çayan Dursun and Mazlum Ayçiçek. 3 people were released the same day after statement procedures.

(11/253) People Detained in Mersin…

On November 29, 2023, 6 people were detained in house raids in Mersin on the allegations of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’. Detained 1 person (Vedat Yiğit) was arrested by the court on the same day. 5 people were released on the same day after statement procedures at the prosecutor’s office.

(11/254) Political Party and Association Member and Executives Detained in Izmir…

A person named Ramazan Yavuz was detained on November 29, 2023, in Izmir within the scope of an investigation against the executives of Aegean Association for Assistance to Families of Prisoners and Prisoners (EGE-TUHAYDER), Avesta Language and Culture Research Association (Avesta) and Jin Art Huner (JINART). With this detention, the number of people detained through this investigation became 6. The names of the detained people are EGE-TUHAYDER Co-Chair Nilay Güleser, Avesta Language and Culture Research Association (Avesta) Co-Chair Ali Yalçınkaya, Dilaver Keklik, Derya Kandemir, Neriman Birlikler, and Ramazan Yavuz.

(11/255) People Detained in Antep…

5 people, including 3 children, were arrested by the court on the grounds of ‘aiding an illegal organization’ in Antep on November 29, 2023. The names of the people and children arrested are Mustafa Yaşodun, Abdurrahman Elmas, Mehmet Demir, N. D. (child), and M. A. S.(child).

(11/256) Co-Mayor on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final hearing of the retrial of the case against Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Selçuk Mızraklı, who was sentenced to 9 years, 4 months, and 15 days in prison for ‘being a member of an illegal organization,’ was held on November 29, 2023, at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9. Selçuk Mızraklı attended the hearing via SEGBİS. Open witness Ümit Akbıyık was heard via SEGBİS. Following the defenses, the court again sentenced Selçuk Mızraklı to 9 years, 4 months, and 15 days in prison.

(11/257) Former MP on Trial…

The final trial of the case against Kemal Bülbül, former Antalya MP of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), for his social media posts on the Turkish Armed Forces’ military operation to Afrin in Syria in 2018, was held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 15 on November 29, 2023. The court acquitted Kemal Bülbül on the charges of ‘inciting people to hatred and hostility’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’.

 

(11/258) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The final hearing of the case against journalist Zafer Arapkirli was held on November 29, 2023, at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 32, following the reversal of the acquittal verdict by the Regional Court of First Instance against him for insulting Nureddin Yıldız of the Social Doku Foundation in a social media post. The court again acquitted Zafer Arapkirli.

(11/259) DİAYDER Trial…

The trial of the case against 23 members and executives of Religious Scholars Assistance and Solidarity Association (DİAYDER) continued on November 29, 2023 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 14. The court adjourned the trial to December 21, 2023.

(11/260) The Person on Trial in Urfa…

On November 29, 2023, the case against Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband Hacı Esvet Şenyaşar and sons Adil and Celal Şenyaşar were killed after a quarrel between Justice and Development Party (AKP) MP candidate İbrahim Halil Yıldız and his bodyguards and shopkeepers in the Suruç district of Urfa on June 14, 2018, for insulting Halil Yıldız in her statements during the justice watch, continued at Urfa Penal Court of First Instance No 3. The court declared its final opinion on the case and demanded a sentence for Emine Şenyaşar on the charge of insult. The court adjourned the hearing to December 20, 2023.

(11/261) The Tahir Elçi Case…

The trial of the case against police officers S. T. and F. T. dismissed police officer M. S. and fugitive defendant U. Y. for the killing of Diyarbakır Bar Association Chair Tahir Elçi on November 28, 2015, in Diyarbakır continued on November 29, 2023.

The indictment demands a jail sentence from 2 years to 6 years for 3 police officers on the charge of ‘causing death by deliberate negligence’. U. Y., who is alleged to be a PKK member, is demanded to be sentenced to 3 times aggravated life imprisonment and 45 years on the charges of ‘intentional killing’, ‘killing with probable intent’, ‘opposition to Law No. 6136 on Firearms and Knives’, ‘disrupting the unity of the state and integrity of the country’, ‘damaging property’.

The court rejected the demands of the Elçi family lawyers for a discovery at the place where Tahir Elçi was killed and a re-examination of CCTV footage and adjourned the trial to March 6, 2024.

(11/262) The Erhan Eser Case…

The final trial of the case against police officer H. K., about the death of Erhan Eser on March 28, 2022, in the Beylikdüzü district of Istanbul, due to being shot at the car he was in for ‘disobeying stop warning’, was held at Bakırköy Heavy Penal Court No 2 on November 29, 2023. The court sentenced police officer H. K. to 6 years and 3 months on the charge of ‘killing with deliberate negligence’ and ruled for the continuation of the judicial control condition on him.

(11/263) Banned Events and Protests…

The Governorate of Urfa announced on November 29, 2023, that all events such as press statements, meetings, marches, hunger strikes, sit-in protests, rallies, opening stands, setting up tents, distributing leaflets, hanging banners, and so on are banned for 3 days as of November 29, 2023.

 (11/264) People Detained and Arrested in Relation with the Coup Attempt…

On November 28, 2023, 1 person was detained in Ankara. On November 30, 2023, 1 person was detained in Osmaniye.
