(05/283) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 2 soldiers (Mehmet Meral, Muhammed Serttaş) died in an attack on May 28, 2022 and 1 soldier (Hasan Çatal) died in an attack on May 29, 2022 during the “Claw-Lock” military operation in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 28, 2022 that, 4 militants died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Metina area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on April 19, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 29, 2022 that, 1 militant died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Gire area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on May 27, 2022.

(05/284) Hunger Strike in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 28, 2022 that, 3 prisoners (Rızgar Turhan, Cumali Yıldırım, Mehmet Emin) in Afyon T Type Prison No 1, are on hunger strike since May 25, 2022 to demand an end to right violations. It is stated in the news reports that these prisoners were forcibly taken out of their wards by physical violence but it is not known where they were taken.

(05/285) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration in front of the Ministry of Justice building in Ankara on May 27, 2022, to support demands of Sibel Balaç and Gökhan Yıldırım who are on hunger strike in prison; and detained 7 people (Hasan Basri Yıldız, Nergis Doğru, Erkan Yıldırım, Şengül Ulus, Ferdi Sarıkaya, Ömer Akyel, Umutcan Aybak). Detained people are released the same day.

The police intervened the press declaration of Şişli Municipality workers in front of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) in Ankara on May 27, 2022 and forced people away from the building by using physical violence.

(05/287) Police Intervention to a Protest in Tunceli…

The police intervened the press declaration of Munzur University students demanding autonomous, democratic and free university in Tunceli in May 27, 2022 and detained 11 people by using physical violence. Detained people are released after statement procedures the same day.

(05/288) Detained People in Ankara for Participating in the Revolution March at the METU…

On May 29, 2022, 16 people are detained in house raids in Ankara, for participating in the Revolution March at the Middle East Technical University on May 26, 2022.

Detained people are: The Socialist Youth Associations’ Federation (SGDF) central executive board member Hivda Selen, Free Students Initiative co-spokesperson Berivan Kaylu, Yaprak Delfin Turgan, Mert Orhan Ömerbeyoğlu, Dilan Mollaahmetoğlu, Berfin Babaoğlu, Lokman Sekvan Ozğan, Ebrar Uz, Cihat Uygar, Kıymet Cengiz, Dilan Yakın, Eda Kahraman, Ruken Gül, Mustafa Demir, Özgür Cıbul, Hakkı Zengin.

(05/289) Detained People in Tunceli for Participating in Newroz Celebrations…

On May 28, 2022, 20 students of Munzur University are detained in house raids in Tunceli, on the grounds of participating in Newroz celebrations this year.

6 of the detainees are released after statement procedures on May 29, 2022.

(05/290) Lawyer on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against lawyer Newroz Uysal, through an investigation on the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 10 on May 27, 2022. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to September 30, 2022.

(05/291) The Case Against Left Party Executive…

The final trial of the case against Murat Güzel, Keçiören district chair of the Left Party, on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ by sharing a picture of Hıdır Aslan, who was executed after the military coup in 1980, on social media, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 27 on May 27, 2022. The court acquitted Murat Güzel.

(05/292) Person on Trial in Çanakkale for ‘Insulting the President’…

The final trial of the case against a person whose name has not been learned, on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ by carrying a banner that reads “You are the white meat” during a protest, is held at Çanakkale Penal Court of First Instance No 1 on May 27, 2022. The court acquitted the accused person.

(05/293) Gezi/Çarşı Case…

The retrial of the case against 35 people including members of the Beşiktaş fan group Çarşı, for the Gezi protests in 2013, is held on May 27, 2022. The court adjourned the trial. 35 people have been acquitted by the court but this verdict was overturned.

(05/294) Hazna Sü Case…

The first trial of the case against specialised sergeant B. D., for death of Hazna Sü due to being hit by an armoured police vehicle in Kızıltepe district of Mardin on January 11, 2022, is held at Kızıltepe Penal Court of First Instance No 3 on May 27, 2022. The court rejected to arrest B. D. and adjourned the trial.

(05/295) Ban of Events in Van…

Van Governorate made a declaration on May 28, 2022 and announced that, all open-door meetings and demonstrations are banned for 15 days as of May 28, 2022. It is also announced that press declarations, sit-in protests, opening stands and tents, collecting petitions, distributing leaflets and so on will be subjected to the local authority’s permission. All events are banned in Van for 2029 days since November 21, 2016.

It is learned that the news reports about the chairman of the board of trustees of the foundation of Bursa Mudanya University, published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://www.birgun.net, https://www.gazeteduvar.com.tr websites are banned to access on the grounds of ‘violation of personal rights’ by Bursa Penal Court of Peace No 6 on May 11, 2022.

It is learned that the news reports about the bribery allegations in the Istanbul Provincial Security Directorate, published on the website of the Freedom of Expression Association https://ifade.org.tr/engelliweb/ is banned to access on the grounds of ‘violation of personal rights’ by Istanbul Bakırköy Penal Court of Peace No 3 on May 27, 2022.

(05/298) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 4 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 940 as of May 27, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared that 3 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 966 as of May 28, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared that 2 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 864 as of May 29, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 98,957 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 15,070,814 as of May 29, 2022.
