(06/298) Journalist Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment in Konya…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 29, 2021 that, Muhammed Emin Güleç, a reporter of local Hakimiyet newspaper in Konya, was subjected to physical violence of the police officers with whom he had an argument for them not wearing face masks. It is reported that Muhammed Emin Güleç had a medical report evidencing the violence and will file a criminal complaint against the police officers.

(06/299) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 29, 2021 that, Memiş Akbaş in Eskişehir H Type Prison was being subjected to discrimination based on sexual orientation, physical and psychological violence of the correction officers and male prisoners in the ward where he was put in, and sexual assault of some prisoners. It is also stated in the news reports that petitions and letters of Memiş Akbaş about these right violations were not being sent.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 29, 2021 that, prisoners in Ağrı Patnos L Type Prison were restricted in using their right to take photographs, and the clothes sent by their families were not delivered to them.

It is learned that the appeal made on June 29, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

(06/301) Police Intervention to Pride Week Event in Ankara…

The police used gas bombs to intervene the Pride March in Tunalı Hilmi Street in Çankaya district of Ankara on June 29, 2021 and detained 20 people by using physical violence. It is learned that 1 person who said “down with the hatred” in reaction to the police was also detained. It is learned that detained people were subjected to torture and ill-treatment in detention cars.

(06/302) Detained People in Van for Participating in a Protest…

On June 29, 2021, 10 people are detained in Van, for participating in the protest held on June 26, 2021, regarding the attack to Izmir office of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) where Deniz Poyraz was killed. Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

4 of 8 people (Abdullah Basiyan, Abdurrahman Mutlu, Mustafa Başkut and Orhan Demircan) who were detained in Urfa, are arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on June 29, 2021. 4 people are released on judicial control conditions.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 29, 2021 that, a person named E. A. is detained for his expressions in a street interview.

(06/305) Detained People in Siirt…

On June 29, 2021, 2 people (Fatma Taşçı and Kasım Taşçı) are detained in a house raid in Siirt. The reason of detention is unknown.

(06/306) Journalist on Trial for ‘Insulting the President’ in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against journalist Hakkı Boltan, on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ and ‘insulting Ahmet Davutoğlu, the prime minister back then’ in the press declaration in Kurdish that he made about Rohat Aktaş, is held at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 12 on June 29, 2021. Rohat Aktaş was former editor in-chief of Azadiya Welat newspaper and died during curfews in Cizre district of Şırnak in 2016. The court sentenced Hakkı Boltan to 1 year 2 months and 7 days on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ and to 10 months on the charge of ‘insult’ against Ahmet Davutoğlu.

(06/307) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against Ismail Çoban, former editor in chief of Azadiya Welat newspaper which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 7 on June 29, 2021. The court board did not allow journalists in the court room. The court sentenced Ismail Çoban to 4 years and 6 months on the charge of ‘making successively propaganda for an illegal organisation’.

(06/308) ESP Executive on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against Kerim Altınmakas, Izmir provincial chair of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) at Bakırköy Heavy Penal Court No 9 on June 29, 2021.

Kerim Altınmakas joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court decided to release Kerim Altınmakas and adjourned the trial.

Kerim Altınmakas was detained on January 14, 2021 and was arrested on January 18, 2021.

(06/309) Lawyer on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against lawyer Oya Aslan is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 37 on June 29, 2021.

The court decided to continue detention of Oya Aslan and adjourned the trial to September 20, 2021.

Oya Aslan was detained in Istanbul on December 20, 2019 and was arrested by the court on December 27, 2019.

(06/310) Non-Prosecution on Torture and Ill-Treatment Complaints in Van…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 29, 2021 that, Van Public Prosecutor’s office made a decision of non-prosecution regarding the criminal complaints of 3 children (Ö. S. [14, m], Ş. Y. [16, m] and O. D. [17, m]) who have been subjected to torture and ill treatment while being detained in İpekyolu district of Van on February 5, 2019 and at the police station where they were kept under custody.

It is reported that the case against 3 children, on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, ‘resisting a public officer to prevent his duty’, ‘possession or exchange of hazardous substances without permission’ and ‘insult’ is being proceeded at Van Heavy Penal Court No 6, and the next trial will be held on December 16, 2021.

(06/311) Posters Removed in Van by Governorate’s Order…

It is learned that the posters about the Istanbul Convention, which were hung on the city billboards by Van Women’s Platform, were removed by the police upon Van Governorate’s prohibition on the grounds of “opposition to national security, morality and adap” on June 29, 2021.

(06/312) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that the news reports on Izmir Provincial Director of National Education, published on https://www.gazeteduvar.com.tr, https://www.birgun.net, https://halktv.com.tr websites are banned on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Izmir Penal Court of Peace No 1 on June 29, 2021.

(06/313) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On June 29, 2021, 22 people are detained in operations covering 24 cities through an Istanbul based investigation.

(06/314) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 53 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 510 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on June 29, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 5,846.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 49,687 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 5,420,156 as of June 29, 2021.
