(01/191) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Şırnak…

According to news reports on January 30, 2026, it was learned that Ramazan Kalkan, a member of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Youth Assembly, who was detained on January 26, 2026, in the Cizre district of Şırnak using physical violence on the street, was subjected to torture and other ill-treatment.

In a press statement issued by the DBP Cizre District Co-Chairs regarding the matter, it was stated: “On the first day of his arrest, a bag was placed over his head, he was injected with a needle, and his fingerprints were taken against his will.”

(01/192) Individuals Subjected to Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Urfa…

In a statement made on January 30, 2026, by the Urfa Branch of the Lawyers for Freedom Association (ÖHD), it was announced that at least 10 people detained during police interventions against protests in Urfa related to attacks against Kurds in Syria were subjected to torture and other ill-treatment.

The statement said: “At least 10 people were subjected to torture and ill-treatment (…) These statements commonly refer to practices such as beating with kicks and punches, choking, forcing individuals to lie down, handcuffing them behind their backs, keeping them in plastic handcuffs for long periods, threats and insults, denying them the right to use the toilet, leaving them hungry and thirsty, and denying them access to health services. It is understood that the violence was not limited to the moment of arrest; it continued during the detention, hospital transfer, and out-of-province transfer processes, indicating that the ill-treatment was systematic and continuous.

According to news reports on January 30, 2026, 16 citizens of various European countries who were detained on January 28, 2026, after arriving in Mardin in connection with attacks against Kurds in Syria, were forcibly removed from a plane in Istanbul on which they were to be deported and taken to the airport police station. It was learned that the 16 individuals who were subjected to physical violence were later deported on different flights to Germany.

(01/194) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Prison…

According to news reports on January 30, 2026, it was learned that the heaters in the cells where prisoners are held at the Erzurum Dumlu 2 High Security Prison were not working, that the prisoners’ refrigerators, televisions, and books were confiscated, that the prisoners were subjected to verbal abuse by prison guards, and that their social, cultural, and sporting rights were restricted. The news also claims that the doors of the toilets in the cells had been removed.

On January 30, 2026, police intervened with pressurized water, tear gas, and plastic bullets in a protest in Van against attacks on Kurds in Syria. As a result of the intervention, two people were detained and several were injured. The number of injured persons is unknown.

It was learned that two journalists were injured by police intervention while covering the protest held in Van on January 30, 2026, regarding attacks against Kurds in Syria.

Zilan Gül, an employee of Yeni Yaşam newspaper, who was detained during a house raid in Diyarbakır on January 26, 2026, was released on January 29, 2026, after giving a statement to the police.

(01/198) Individuals Detained in Diyarbakır…

Fourteen individuals detained on January 26, 2026, in Diyarbakır on allegations of preparing for an action were released on January 29, 2026, after giving statements to the police.

(01/199) Political Party Member Arrested in Şırnak…

Ramazan Kalkan, a member of the DBP Youth Assembly who was detained on January 26, 2026, in the Cizre district of Şırnak, was arrested on January 29, 2026, by the magistrate’s court to which he was referred on charges of “being a member of an organization.”

(01/200) Football Team and Manager Referred to PFDK…

According to news reports on January 30, 2026, Amedspor was referred to the Professional Football Disciplinary Board (PFDK) due to a video posted on the club’s official social media account showing a woman braiding her hair to protest attacks against Kurds in Syria. Amedspor was fined 802,000 TL, and club president Nahit Eren was banned from his duties for 15 days.

The Presidency of Communications announced on January 30, 2026, that 379 social media accounts had been blocked for spreading disinformation and promoting organizations.
