On January 30, 2025 it is learned from the news coverage of January 30, 2025 that, Abdulsamet Burak, a prisoner who was transferred from Van High Security Prison to Adana Suluca High Security Prison No 1 under coercion, was not given food for 3 days.

It is learned that the appeal made on January 30, 2025 by lawyers in order to visit their clients PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison was not responded by Bursa Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) former Diyarbakır MP Dersim Dağ was detained at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport on January 30, 2025. Dersim Dağ was released after statement procedures on the same day. The reason for detention could not be learned.

Barış Pehlivan, Halk TV presenter Seda Selek, Halk TV Managing Director Serhan Asker, who were detained within the scope of the investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office for sharing the phone calls of the expert mentioned in the press statement of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, were released with judicial control conditions by the criminal judgeship of peace to which they were referred on January 29, 2025.
Halk TV Editor-in-Chief Suat Toktaş, who was taken by the police to the prosecutor’s office for statement-taking within the same investigation, was arrested by the criminal judgeship of peace on January 30, 2025, while Program Coordinator Kürşad Oğuz was released on judicial control conditions.

On January 29, 2025, 2 people (Aysel Yapıcı and Ümit Okşamak) are detained in house raids in Silvan district of Diyarbakır on the allegations of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘aiding an illegal organisation’. 2 people were released after statement procedures at the gendarmerie.

2 of 5 people (Murat Öğüt and Seyit Remzi Güneş) who were detained in Diyarbakır on January 26, 2025 and referred to criminal judgeship of peace on January 29, 2025 on the charge of ‘committing crime on behalf of an illegal organisation’ are arrested. 3 people (Mustafa Ekici, Arda Eryılmaz, Mehmet Işık) are released on judicial control conditions.

The trial of the case against Van Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Abdullah Zeydan continued on January 30, 2025 at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5. The indictment demands sentence for Abdullah Zeydan on the charges of ‘knowingly and willingly aiding an illegal organization’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The court adjourned the trial to February 11, 2025.

The retrial of the case against Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Turkey Representative Erol Önderoğlu, writer Ahmet Nesin, former President of Turkish Medical Association (TTB) Central Council and Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TİHV) board member Prof. Dr. Şebnem Korur Fincancı, for participating in the “Editor-in-Chief on Watch” campaign to support Özgür Gündem newspaper which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13. The acquittal verdict of the case at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13 is reversed by Penal Department No 3 of Istanbul Regional Court of Appeals on November 1, 2020 and the retrial of the case is held on January 30, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for 3 people on the charges of ‘inciting to commit crime’, ‘praising crime and offender’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. The court adjourned the trial to April 29, 2025.

The trial of the case against journalist Mehmet Şah Oruç continued on January 30, 2025 at Bitlis Heavy Penal Court No 2. The indictment demands sentence for the journalist on the charges of ‘being an illegal organization member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The court decided to lift the signature requirement and the ban on leaving the country and adjourned the trial to May 20, 2025.

The court adjourned the trial to April 15, 2025.

The trial of the case against Mezopotamya Agency (MA) editor Abdurrahman Gök continued on January 30, 2025 at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5. The indictment demands sentence for Abdurrahman Gök on the charges of ‘being an illegal organization member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The court decided to continue judicial control conditions on Abdurrahman Gök and adjourned the trial to April 22, 2025.
Abdurrahman Gök was detained in Diyarbakır on April 25, 2023 and arrested on April 27, 2023. The journalist was released during the hearing of the case against him at Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court on December 5, 2023.

The retrial of the case against journalist Hayri Demir, who was sentenced to 2 years 9 months and 22 days for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’, continued on January 30, 2025 at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 15.

The final hearing of the retrial of the case against journalist Sultan Keleş at Izmir 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance after the Constitutional Court ruled that her right to a fair trial was violated was held on January 30, 2024. The indictment demands Sultan Keleş to be sentenced for insulting the President in her social media posts. The court sentenced Sultan Keleş to 1 year and 2 months for ‘insulting the President’ and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

On January 30, 2025, the trial of the case against 6 people, about Vezir Mohammad Nourtani, a worker from Afghanistan, who was working in an illegal mine in Zonguldak although it was closed down by gendarmerie on November 5, 2023, was left to die by the mine owners, relatives and 2 employees after he was seriously injured in a work accident on November 9, 2023 and his body was cremated, continued at Zonguldak Heavy Penal Court No 1. The court decided to continue detention of 3 arrestees and adjourned the trial to February 19, 2025.
