(01/265) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of January 29, 2020 that prisoners in Maraş Türkoğlu L Type Prison No 1 were forced to stand in military order during roll-calls and visit time for political prisoners is limited to 40 minutes although it is 80 minutes for other prisoners.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 29, 2020 that, İbrahim Sütçü, a prisoner who was transferred to Osmaniye Prison from Konya Ereğli Prison was subjected to physical violence of the wardens for he rejected strip search at the entrance of prison. It is learned that torture and ill-treatment continued at certain areas in prison where surveillance cameras do not cover and İbrahim Sütçü got wounded due to violence. It is also stated in the news reports that İbrahim Sütçü was being kept in a single cell and his demand for ward was rejected, he was being taken to open-door areas only 1 hour a day, his rights for sports, social and cultural activities are being prevented and he was forced to stand in military order during roll-calls.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 29, 2020 that prisoners have problems in heating and hot water supply in Tarsus T Type Prison No 1.

(01/266) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1177 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on January 29, 2020 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on January 29, 2020, 2 people (Merve Demirel and Nazan Bozkurt) and at 18.00 2 people (Gülnaz Bozkurt and Nazan Bozkurt) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on January 29, 2020. It is learned detained people were released on the same days they were detained.

(01/267) Detained People in Urfa…

It is learned that 2 of 11 people (M. M. and F. A.) who were detained through an investigation about explosives and electronic mechanism found in a car in Bozova district of Urfa on January 18, 2020, are arrested by the court on January 29, 2020. 9 people are released.

(01/268) Detained Person in Diyarbakır…

It is learned that a person named S. T. (19, m) is detained in a house raid in Bağlar district of Diyarbakır on January 29, 2020.

(01/269) Former Co-mayor on Trial in Mardin…

The final trial of the case against Mehmet Aydın Alökmen, former Democratic Regions Party (DBP) co-mayor of Savur district of Mardin, is held at Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 2 on January 29, 2020 After defence hearings the court sentenced Mehmet Aydın Alökmen to 7 years and 6 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and to 2 years and 9 months for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’.

(01/270) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against journalist Aziz Oruç, for his social media posts, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9 on January 29, 2020.

Aziz Oruç joined the trial from Ağrı Patnos Prison via sound and vision system. The prosecutor declared legal opinion and demanded sentence from 10 months up to 5 years for Aziz Oruç. The court adjourned the trial to March 2, 2020.

(01/271) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

Former judge Hüseyin Purtaş who was detained in a house raid in Ankara on January 29, 2020 is arrested by the court on the same day.

(01/272) Proceedings Against Parliamentary Members…

It is learned that, 10 proceedings against 6 parliamentary members from HDP including co-chairs Pervin Buldan and Sezai Temelli, are submitted to the Constitution and Justice Committee of the Grand National Assembly.

HDP MP’s subjected to proceedings are: Pervin Buldan (1 proceeding), Sezai Temelli (4 proceedings), Ağrı MP Berdan Öztürk (2 proceedings), Diyarbakır MP Remziye Tosun (1 proceeding), Diyarbakır MP Musa Farisoğulları (1 proceeding), Diyarbakır MP Semra Güzel (1 proceeding).
