(01/001) Threatened Journalists…
It is learned from news coverage of January 31, 2025 that journalist Murat Ağıreli and his family were threatened because of the news he reported. Murat Ağırel stated the following about the threat in his statement to the press “I have been receiving organized messages of swearing, threats and killing because of my news reports and books on drugs, illegal betting and black money relations; in other words, because of my journalistic work.” “These people, who have been unable to stand up to me for two years, have stooped so low as to say they will rape my children. ”
On January 4, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of January 4, 2025 that journalists Şule Aydın and Murat Ağırel were threatened. Şule Aydın stated the following about the threat in her statement to the press “There is a report that came to us about an attack on Murat and me on motorcycles, and they told us at which point it would take place, and they said that the hitmen had been hired.”

It is learned from news coverage of January 5, 2025 that, İhsan Oral, Ahmet Herdem and Hayrullah Turan, prisoners in Kırıkkale F Type Prison were subjected to torture and ill-treatment and İhsan Oral was threatened by the first director of the prison saying “I will break your head”.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 5, 2025 that prisoners in Kırıkkale F Type Prison were forced to be examined in handcuffs, prisoners with chronic illnesses were not treated and were not given medication they should use.
(01/004) Prisoners’ Release Adjourned by Prison Administration and Observation Board Decision…
It is learned from news coverage of January 2, 2026 that, the release of Selçuk Kozağaçlı, honorary chair of Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD), who is being held in Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) Prison, is adjourned for 6 months by Prison Administration and Monitoring Board (CİGK) on the grounds of “not being in a condition to integrate with society”.
(01/005) Arrested Former Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and Other People in Izmir
As part of the investigation launched by Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against a building cooperative, 9 people including former Republican People’s Party (CHP) Izmir provincial chair Şenol Aslanoğlu were detained in Izmir on December 26, 2025. On December 30, 2025, these 9 people together with Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer and Heval Savaş Kaya, who were arrested through another case, were referred to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace. The court decided to arrest 5 people including Tunç Soyer, Şenol Aslanoğlu and Heval Savaş Kaya and released 6 people on judicial control conditions.

On December 30, 2025, journalist Fatih Ergin, on the grounds of his social media posts, was detained in Istanbul and was released by the criminal court of peace on judicial control conditions on the same day.
(01/007) Person on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The retrial of the case against Ayşe Gökkan, former spokesperson of Tevgera Jinên Azad (TJA), on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, ‘knowingly aiding an illegal organisation’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ was continued on December 30, 2025. The court decided to continue detention of Ayşe Gökkan and adjourned the trial to March 26, 2026.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 29, 2025 that journalist Furkan Karabay’s X and Instagram social media accounts and 1 social media post were banned to access on the grounds of protection of national security and public order, within the scope of Article 8/A of Law No 5651.
It is learned from the news coverage of December 29, 2025 that, the social media post of CHP Istanbul MP Oğuz Kağan Salıcı, about Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, was banned to access by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 4 on December 18, 2025, on the grounds of ‘protection of national security and public order’ and the post was made invisible from Turkey.
It is learned from news coverage of December 30, 2025 that 11 news reports and 3 social media posts about a business person on https://www.birgun.net/ (3 news reports), https://www.odatv.com/ (2 news reports), https://www.takvim.com.tr/ , https://www.egedesonsoz.com/ , https://www.gazeteduvar.com.tr/, https://www.gercekgundem.com/ , https://serbestiyet.com/ , https://t24.com.tr/ websites are banned to access on the grounds of ‘protection of national security and public order’ by Istanbul Criminal Court of Peace No. 7 on December 30, 2025 and the content is ordered to be deleted.
It is learned from the news coverage of January 2, 2026 that, X social media accounts of Murat Ongun, former Chairman of Medya A.Ş., who was arrested through the investigation against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, are banned to access on the grounds of protection of national security and public order, through Article 8/A of Law No 5651.
It is learned from the news coverage of January 4, 2026 that the command “dress up in a bikini” in Grok, an artificial intelligence application, is blocked and made invisible from Turkey.

It is learned from news coverage of January 2, 2025 that, Van Metropolitan Municipality, to which a trustee was appointed, took down the signboard of a Kurdish-language kindergarten saying “Perperok Mala Zarokan” and replaced it with a signboard saying “Nursery and Day Care Center”.
