(12/282) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on December 30, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

(12/283) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 29, 2022 that, the visitors of journalists Habibe Eren, Öznur Değer, Diren Yurtsever, Berivan Altan, Ceylan Şahinli, Deniz Nazlım, Emrullah Acar, Selman Güzelyüz and Hakan Yalçın in Ankara Sincan Prison were not allowed by the prison administration on the grounds that “the reports sent by the Ministry Communications Bureau and Ankara Provincial Gendarmerie Command states negative information about the visitors as a result of examination”.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 30, 2022 that, the prisoners who started a hunger strike on October 4, 2022 to protest isolation and right violations in Konya Ereğli High Security Prison were put in solitary cells, were taken out only one and half an hour a day and they were not given the Vitamin B12.

(12/284) Human Rights Defender and Other People on Trial for ‘Insulting the President’ in Izmir…

The final trial of the case against 3 people including rights defender Aytül Uçar, medical secretary of the HRFT in Izmir, on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ is held at Izmir Penal Court of First Instance No. 41 on December 30, 2022. 3 people (Aytül Uçar, Emine Akbaba and İrem Çelikbaş) have been detained by the police intervening the protest against the new rector appointed to Boğaziçi University, held in Izmir on February 3, 2021. The court acquitted Aytül Uçar and sentenced Emine Akbaba and İrem Çelikbaş to 11 months and 20 days each and postponed the sentenced.

(12/285) Co-Mayor on Trial in Mardin…

The trial of the case against Mülkiye Esmez, HDP co-mayor of Sur district of Diyarbakır, is held at Mardin Heavy Penal Court No. 11 on December 30, 2022. The prosecutor declared legal opinion on the case and demanded sentence for Mülkiye Esmez on the charges of “being an illegal organisation member” and “making propaganda for an illegal organisation”. The court decided to continue the ban on leaving the country and adjourned the trial to March 7, 2023.

Mülkiye Esmez was detained on November 16, 2019 and was arrested by the court on November 26, 2019. She was released from prison on June 25, 2021. The Ministry of Interior appointed a trustee to Derik district on November 16, 2019.

(12/286) Co-Mayor on Trial…

The trial of the case against Ferhat Kut, HDP co-mayor of Nusaybin district of Mardin, is held at Mardin Heavy Penal Court No. 3 on December 30, 2022. Ferhat Kut and his lawyers did not join the trial on excuse. The court adjourned the trial to March 20, 2023.

Ferhat Kut was detained on October 15, 2019 and was arrested by the court on October 17, 2019, and he was released from prison on September 25, 2020. Ministry of Interior has appointed a trustee to Nusaybin Municipality on October 18, 2019.

(12/287) HDP Executives and Members on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against 10 people including HDP’s former provincial co-chairs Doğan Erbaş and Aysel Güzel, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 14 on December 29, 2022. The court sentenced Doğan Erbaş to 12 years on the charge of “being an illegal organisation member” and to 2 years 9 months and 22 days on the charge of “making propaganda for an illegal organisation”. The court sentenced Aysel Güzel to 7 years and 6 months on the charge of “being an illegal organisation member”; provincial executive Ali İpekli to 6 years and 3 months on the charge of “being an illegal organisation member” and to 1 year 6 months and 22 days on the charge of “making propaganda for an illegal organisation”. The court sentenced Ayşe Karadağ to 10 years and 6 months, Feremez Erkan to 9 years, Muhittin Arslanboğa and Süleyman Başer to 6 years and 3 months each, Süleyman Özcan to 9 years and 9 months and Kasım Oba to 12 years on the charge of “being an illegal organisation member” and acquitted Mehmet Tayyip Aslan.

(12/288) Police Officers on Trial in Adana…

The first trial of the case against police officers A. Ü., Ö. G. and S. T., on the charge of “killing with eventual intent” and “injury” regarding the death of Tevriz Dora, who was three and a half years old and was shot in front of her house while she was in the arms of her mother Kamile Dora, during the protests in Seyhan district of Adana on October 11, 2015, about the 10 October Ankara Massacre, is held at Adana Heavy Penal Court No. 4 started on December 30, 2022. The court rejected the request for the arrest of the police officers and adjourned the trial to May 16, 2023.

After it was determined that some of the bullet casings found at the crime scene belonged to the Police Department, Adana Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation, but Adana Governorate’s Office did not give permission for an investigation against the police officers. On December 28, 2021, the Constitutional Court decided on a “violation of the right to life” regarding the death of Tevzi Dora and sent the file to the prosecutor’s office for an effective investigation.

(12/289) Penalty Fine for Protestors in Van…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 29, 2022 that at least 25 people who participated in the march held in Van for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, 25 November 2022, were fined 581 Turkish Liras by the Van Police Department for “violating the Misdemeanours Law”.

(12/290) Ban of Events in Mardin…

Mardin Governorate’s Office made a declaration on December 29, 2022 and announced that all open door and indoor meetings, marches, press declarations, hunger strikes, opening stands and tents, collecting petition, distributing leaflets and so on are banned for 15 days as of December 30, 2022.
