The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Buğra Çalgay) died in a car accident during the “Claw-Lock” military operation in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on August 29, 2023.
(08/173) Prisoner Died in Erzurum…
An ill prisoner named Şakir Turan (70), who was held in Erzincan L Type Prison, died in Erzincan Research Hospital on August 30, 2023. It is stated in the news reports that Şakir Turan was given a medical report 20 days ago by the Mengücek Gazi Training and Research Hospital Health Board, stating that no need for suspension of his sentence.
(08/174) Attack on Journalist in Urfa…
It is learned that journalist Mehmet Karakeçeli was subjected to physical violence by a person who was alleged to be the bodyguard of the Viranşehir district mayor in Urfa, and was threatened to death by saying, “If you write anything about the municipality from now on, you will die”, on August 30, 2023. It is learned that the journalist was injured in various parts of his body as a result of the attack.
(08/175) Threatened HDP Member in Istanbul…
It is learned from the news coverage of August 31, 2023 that that a person named Erkan Güngör, who sells books in Kurdish in the Başakşehir district of Istanbul and is a member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), was threatened to death by a group calling itself the Turkish Revenge Brigade. It is stated in the news reports that Erkan Güngör received a message to your cell phone reading “Mind your step. If you don’t mind your step, they will find your carcass in a street. The Turkish Revenge Brigade will do what is necessary”.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 30, 2023 that a trans woman named C. B., who was waiting at the bus stop in Bursa, was attacked with a fire extinguisher on August 18, 2023 and 7 people, including 1 child, were detained in relation to the attack.
(08/177) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…
It is learned that the appeal made on August 31, 2023 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.
(08/178) Police Intervention to Protest in Istanbul…
The police intervened in the press declaration of the Private Sector Teachers’ Union to be held in front of the Turkish Private Schools Association building in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on August 30, 2023, and detained 30 people, including union chair Eren Edebali and union executives, by handcuffing them behind their backs. It is learned that the police also prevented journalists from recording the intervention. The detainees were released on the same day following the statement procedures at the police.

Deniz Önen, a member of the Women’s Defense Network, was detained in a police raid in Bursa on August 31, 2023. The reason for detention could not be learned.
(08/180) Detained People in Diyarbakır…
It is learned that 3 of 6 people who were detained by torture and ill-treatment during the military operation of the security forces in the rural areas of Yuva neighbourhood of Silvan district of Diyarbakır on August 26, 2023, are arrested by the court on August 29, 2023. 2 people are released by the court. 1 child who was also detained was released on the same day. Arrested people are: Hüseyin Demir, Habip Demir, Sabahattin Demir.
(08/181) Former bar Association Chair on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The indictment of Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor’s Office against the chair of Diyarbakır Bar Association, lawyer Mehmet Emin Aktar, on the grounds of sharing the official report of the search made in his office, was accepted by Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 5 on August 30, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for Mehmet Emin Aktar on the charge of ‘targeting officials who took part in the fight against terrorism’. The first trial of the case will be held on December 14, 2023.
