(08/252) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 30, 2022 that, 4 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in the rural areas of Ağrı on July 25, 2022.

(08/253) Racist Attack on Kurdish Workers in Sakarya…

It is learned that Kurdish workers in the hazelnut harvesting business in Hendek district of Sakarya were attacked by a group, including the owner of the garden where they worked, and as a result of the attack, 2 people, including 1 child, were injured. It was reported that the workers left the district after the attack.

(08/254) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 30, 2022 that, Mirza Çağlayan, a prisoner in Rize Kalkandere L Type Prison was subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the correction officers on August 26, 2022 and then was taken out of his ward.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 30, 2022 that, Kurbani Özcan, a prisoner kept in Diyarbakır T Type Prison No. 3, who was reported to be subjected to torture and ill-treatment previously, was subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the correction officers once again; and was threatened by the prison director, to whom he made complaints, saying “You will not be able to leave here alive. Your mother will come and get your dead body”.

It is learned that 3 prisoners (Zeki Bayhan, Ramazan Çelik and Yücel Kızmaz) in Izmir Kırıklar F Type Prison No. 2 started a hunger strike on August 29, 2022 to demand an end to right violations.

(08/256) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protests in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declarations which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on August 29 and 30, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(08/257) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the press declaration of the Commission Against Disappearances of the Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul branch and Saturday Mothers, on 30 August International Day of Enforced Disappearances, held at Altınşehir Solitary Cemetery in Küçükçekmece district, and detained 14 people, including IHD branch chair Gülseren Yoleri. Detained people were released the same day. It is learned that a detention order was issued for those who were released with the decision of the prosecutor’s office and 14 people were detained for the second time. The detainees were released again the same day.

The names of detained poeple learned so far are: Gülseren Yoleri, Maside Ocak, Hüseyin Ocak, Ali Ocak, Besna Tosun, Hanım Tosun, Hüseyin Aygül, Hasan Karakoç, Hanife Yıldız, Ferit Barut.

(08/258) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police used pepper spray to intervene in the members and executives of the Private Sector Teachers’ Union (Teachers’ Union) who wanted to march before the press declaration to be held in Çankaya district of Ankara on August 30, 2022; and detained 9 people, including 2 lawyers, by using physical violence and handcuffing them behind their backs. Detained people were released the same day.

It is learned that Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, who shared a social media post after the criticisms of the disproportionate use of force by the police during the intervention, targeted a detained teacher.

(08/259) Detained Journalist in Istanbul…

Etkin News Agency reporter Elif Bayburt is detained on the grounds of an investigation against her, in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on August 29, 2022. Elif Bayburt is released after statement procedures at the prosecutor’s office on August 30, 2022.

(08/260) Syrian Citizen Detained with Her Baby in Istanbul…

It is learned that a Syrian citizen named Reyhan Abidi, who was detained with her 2-month-old baby on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ in Istanbul on August 26, 2022, was arrested by the court on August 30, 2022, and was put in prison with her baby.

(08/261) Cancelled Concert in Adana…

It is learned that the concert of Ilkay Akkaya organized by the municipality in Ceyhan district of Adana, is cancelled by the sub-governorate’s office on August 29, 2022.

(08/262) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that the news reports about the Justice and Development Party (AKP) Erzurum MP, published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://halktv.com.tr and https://www.tamgaturk.com websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No. 1 on August 29, 2022.
