(03/030) Operations and Attacks…

On March 2, 2021, 1 soldier (Furkan Umut) died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Şırnak.

(03/031) Child Subjected to Sexual Assault of Police in Mardin…

It is learned that a 12-year-old child working at the teachers’ guest house in Derik district of Mardin, was subjected to sexual assault of a police officer (Y. Y.) staying there, on March 2, 2021.

It is learned that Y. Y. was detained by gendarmerie and was arrested; and he was also suspended from his duty. It is reported that Derik Public Prosecutor’s Office ruled a confidentiality order on the case.

(03/032) Rejection to Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan…

It is learned that the appeal made on March 2, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was rejected the same day on the grounds of the ban for Abdullah Öcalan which prevents lawyer visits for 6 months.

(03/033) Detained Co-Mayor in Erzurum…

Halit Uğun, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-mayor of Karaçoban district of Erzurum is detained on March 2, 2021. Halit Uğun is released by the court on judicial control conditions on March 3, 2021.

It is learned that the municipality building was searched through the investigation.

(03/034) Detained HDP Executives in Ağrı…

HDP Doğubayazıt district co-chair Gönül Öztürk and HDP provincial executive Hamide Turan are detained while shopping in Ağrı on March 2, 2021. It is learned that the reason of detention is an event organized for 8 March International Women’s Day in Ağrı on March 1, 2021. 2 people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

(03/035) Detained Members and Executives of HDP and Associations in Mersin…

On March 2, 2021, 8 people are detained in house raids in Mersin and Diyarbakır through a Mersin based investigation.

Detained people are: former HDP provincial co-chairs Zelal Önen and Mustafa Işık, HDP Akdeniz and Toroslar district co-chairs Münir Güzel and Cabbar Karabey, Precarious Workers’ Association (GİŞ-DER) chair Abdülselam Kutlu, HDP members Zozan İlgen, Rafiye Erkul and in Diyarbakır Tevgera Jinên Azad – Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activist Beritan Önen.

(03/036) Detained Members and Executives of Associations and Political Parties in Diyarbakır…

On February 27, 2021, 14 people including co-chairs of MEBYA-DER (Association of People Lost Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations) and executives of Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and HDP were detained in house raids in Diyarbakır. On March 2, 2021, 2 people [Meryem Soylu (79) and Hatun Aslan (71)] are arrested by the court while 1 person (Fethullah Işık) is released on judicial control conditions. It is learned that detention period for 11 people is extended for 24 hours.

(03/037) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against journalist Fatih Portakal, on the grounds of ‘violating the law of banking’ and ‘insulting the President’ is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 46 on March 2, 2021. The court acquitted Fatih Portakal.

(03/038) HDP Executive on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against HDP Sur district co-chair Hatun Yıldız, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 8 on March 2, 2021. The court sentenced Hatun Yıldız to 6 years and 3 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

Hatun Yıldız was detained after the statement of her husband with whom she was about to divorce, and she was arrested on July 25, 2020. Hatun Yıldız was released at the first trial held on October 13, 2020.

(03/038) June 5 – Diyarbakır Case…

The case against 19 police officers for ‘official misconduct’ related to the bombing attack to HDP’s rally in Diyarbakır on June 5, 2015, is held at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 14 on March 2, 2021. The court adjourned the trial to May 25, 2021.

(03/039) Ayten Öztürk Case…

The trial of the case against Ayten Öztürk, who was subjected to torture and ill-treatment for 6 months, when she was being interrogated by National Intelligence Service (MIT) after being detained on March 8, 2018 in Lebanon; is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13 on March 2, 2021.

Ayten Öztürk attended the trial and made her defence. The court decided to continue detention of Ayten Öztürk and adjourned the trial to March 19, 2021.

(03/040) Trustee Appointed to Karaçoban District…

Halit Uğun, HDP co-mayor of Karaçoban district of Erzurum who is detained on March 2, 2021 is suspended by the Ministry of Interior on the same day; Karaçoban sub-governor is appointed as a trustee.

(03/041) Ban of Events in Şırnak…

Şırnak Governorate made a declaration on March 2, 2021 and announced that all meetings, open-door assemblies, demonstrations, marches, open door press declarations, sit-in protests, opening stands, collecting petitions, mass funerals, commemorations, concerts, festivals, theatre plays, screening shows and so on are banned for 15 days as of March 2, 2021.

(03/042) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that Mezopotamya News Agency’s website http://mezopotamyaajansi27.com is banned to access by Osmaniye Penal Court of Peace on March 2, 2021.

It is learned that Etkin News Agency’s website http://etha17.com is banned to access by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No 5 on March 1, 2021.

(03/043) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On March 2, 2021, 56 people are detained through Ankara based 3 investigations; 25 people are detained in operations covering 7 cities through an Istanbul based investigation and 6 people are detained in Kocaeli.

(03/044) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 68 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 668 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on March 2, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 11,837.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 28,706 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 2,723,316 as of March 2, 2021.

It is learned that doctor Ali Rıza Şahap Barlas in Istanbul died from Covid-19 on March 2, 2021.
