(06/022) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned that 1 soldier (Baki Koçak) and 1 village guard (Yücel Ak) died, 4 soldiers got wounded in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Tatvan district of Bitlis on June 2, 2021.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 2, 2021 that, 5 militants died in a clash between HPG militants and security forces in rural areas of Şırnak on January 3, 2021.

It is learned that 1 village guard (Cahit Çelik) died, 2 soldiers got wounded in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Tatvan district of Bitlis on June 3, 2021.

(06/023) Hate Crime in Istanbul…

It is learned that Cemal Uçarman, an Alewi person, was attacked by his neighbours in Avcılar district of Istanbul on June 2, 2021. It is reported that his neighbours used hate speech as “you are godless you are qizilbash” and Cemal Uçarman got injured by their attack at the face.

(06/024) Attack to Political Party Executive in Adana…

It is learned that Mümin İnan, deputy chair of organisation in IYI Party, was attacked by an anonymous person at a roadside facility in Pozantı district of Adana on June 2, 2021; and that this person left the place by a car without license plate. Mümin İnan states the following: “They have followed us with a car without licence plate. We have stopped to eat at Pozantı. When I went to the restroom to wash my hands, someone came after me and punched me without saying anything. And this person panicked and ran away when I acted in defence. There was only one attacker but there were two more persons waiting in the car without licence plate. There were police officers too, and they immediately took the incident in hand. I do not know the attacker.”

9 people who were detained by the police intervening the press declaration to commemorate Ethem Sarısülük, who was killed by a police shot during Gezi Park protests, held at Güvenpark in Çankaya district of Ankara on June 1, 2021, are released after statement procedures on June 2, 2021.

(06/026) Detained Child in Şırnak…

It is learned that a 12-year-old child (İ. K.) who was taking pictures of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) office in Silopi district of Şırnak was detained on June 2, 2021 and was released on the same day.

(06/027) The Case Against Former HDP MP…

The first trial of the case against Leyla Güven, HDP’s former Hakkari MP who has been stripped of MP status and Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair, for a speech she gave, is held at Hakkari Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on June 2, 2021.

Leyla Güven joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. The prosecutor declared legal opinion on the case and demanded jail sentence up to 5 years on the charges of ‘praising offence and offender’ and ‘provoking hatred and hostility among people’. The court adjourned the trial to September 22, 2021.

The trial of the case against HDP Party Assembly member Sıtkı Güngör is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 32 on June 2, 2021. The court decided to release Sıtkı Güngör and adjourned the trial to October 7, 2021.

(06/029) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against Ahmet Altan, Yasemin Çongar, Yıldıray Oğur, Tuncay Opçin and Mehmet Baransu, former employees of Taraf newspaper, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13 on June 2, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for 5 people on the charges of ‘destroying or damaging, stealing by deception, making use outside the assigned place of documents or certificates relating to the security of the state’, ‘securing information that is to be kept confidential for reasons relating to the security of the state’, ‘disclosing information that is to be kept confidential for reasons relating to the security of the state’, and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’.

The court decided to continue detention of Mehmet Baransu and adjourned the trial to October 19, 2021.

(06/030) Person on Trial in Ankara for Social Media Comment…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 2, 2021 that, a person who was charged with ‘insult’, for a comment on a news report about Devlet Bahçeli, chair of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), is sentenced to a fine of 5,300 Turkish Liras by Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 52 which then deferred the announcement of the verdict.

(06/031) The Case Against Actress…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 2, 2021 that, Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 31 accepted the indictment of Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office against actress Ezgi Mola, for a social media post she shared. The indictment demands jail sentence up to 2 years and 4 months for Ezgi Mola on the charge of ‘insulting by an audible, written or visual message’ and ‘insult’. Ezgi Mola wrote “Drown in your conscience that has freed the rapist bastard. You have taken everything from us, the law, prayers, wishes, desires, requests, hopes! What should I say! Shame on you! Shame on you!!! #ArrestMusaOrhan” on social media, after Musa Orhan, a specialised sergeant who is charged with sexual assault to a child (İpek Er) who then killed herself.

(06/032) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that social media posts of journalist Erk Acarer, about Mehmet Ağar and Arif Çetin, are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No 8 on June 1, 2021.

It is learned that 2 videos and 1 social media post of Sedat Peker are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No 6 on June 1, 2021.

(06/033) Curfew in Tatvan…

Bitlis Governorate made a declaration on June 2, 2021, and announced curfew in 10 villages of Tatvan district as of June 2, 2021 until a further notice.

The villages under curfew are: Kuşluca, Üçtepe, Karaçalı, Çavuşlar, Üzümlü, Sungurlu, Külbastı, Anadere, Ulusoy, Ekindüzü.

(06/034) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On June 2, 2021, 22 people are detained in operations covering 13 cities through an Ankara based investigation.

(06/035) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 112 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 586 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on June 2, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 7,181.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 47,768 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 5,263,697 as of June 2, 2021.

It is learned that Ilyas Kök, a radiology technician in Ankara lost his life from Covid-19 on June 2, 2021.
