(07/019) Operations and Attacks…

According to news reports on July 2, 2025, three militants were killed in clashes between Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) units and HPG guerrillas in the Zap region within the borders of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (IKBY) on January 12, 2025.

(07/020) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learnt that Dicle Baştürk and Eylem Emel Yılmaz, who were among the four journalists arrested as part of an investigation based in Artvin on July 3, 2025 and placed in a prison in Artvin were transferred to a prison in Erzincan: Ozan Cırık and Yavuz Akengin, who were also arrested as a part of the same investigation, were transferred to the Erzurum Type H Prison.

(07/021) Magazine Employees Arrested in Istanbul…

Cartoonist D.P., graphic designer C.O., editor-in-chief Z.A., and managing director A.Y. of Leman magazine were detained in Istanbul on June 30, 2025, on the grounds of a cartoon published in the June 26 issue of the magazine. On July 2, 2025, they were arrested by a criminal court on charges of “openly inciting the public to hatred and hostility.’

(07/022) Child detained in Istanbul…

A child named İ.Y.U. was detained on July 1, 2025, during a rally held in Saraçhane Square in Istanbul on the 100th day of the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu, Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), on the grounds that he said, “Those who want sharia under the name of Islam will be hanged one by one. Be warned; you will be hanged right here.” He was detained on July 2, 2025, on the grounds that he made these statements.

(07/023) Trial of Political Party Executive in Istanbul…

The trial of Doğan Erbaş, former member of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Party Assembly, on charges of “being a member of an organization” and “propaganda for an organization” at the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No.14 was overturned by the Court of Appeals, and the retrial continued on July 2, 2025. The indictment seeks to punish Doğan Erbaş for “being a member of an organization.” The court decided to release Doğan Erbaş and adjourned the hearing until October 23, 2025.

(07/024) Pople on Trial in Kocaeli…

An indictment prepared by the Kocaeli Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against seven individuals for participating in protests in Kocaeli against the arrest and detention of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was accepted by the Kocaeli Criminal Court of First Instance No. 7 on July 2, 2025. The indictment seeks the punishment of the seven individuals for “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911.” The first hearing of the case will take place on February 26, 2026.

(07/025) Person on Trial in Balıkesir…

Mehmet Arda Irmak is facing charges for participating in protests in Balıkesir against the arrest and detention of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. The trial began on July 2, 2025, at the Balıkesir Criminal Court of First Instance No. 6.  The indictment seeks to punish Mehmet Arda Irmak for “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911.” The court adjourned the hearing until October 15, 2025.

(07/026) Investigation Launched Against Journalist…

According to news reports on July 2, 2025, an investigation was launched against Bianet reporter Evrim Deniz for a news article titled “Gang suspect builds a police station,” and the journalist was summoned to the police station to give a statement.

(07/027) Indictment Prepared Against a Member of Parliament…

According to news reports on July 2, 2025, an indictment prepared against one member of parliament with a request to lift their immunity was sent to the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM).

  • Özgür Özel, Chairperson of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) and MP for Manisa

(07/028) President’s Discriminatory and Phobic Statements…

According to news reports published on July 2, 2025, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated in a speech he delivered at a camp program organized by the women’s branch of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) that “We are fighting on a new front every day, from LGBT perversions to online gambling traps, from policies aiming to eliminate gender distinctions to cultural imperialism.”
