A.Y.Y. (15, m) who was detained on February 2, 2026 for participating in the protests in Van about the attacks against Kurds in Syria, was reportedly subjected to torture and ill-treatment under custody.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 2, 2026 that, 1 person was abducted in Antep by 3 people claiming themselves as police officers, who forced him into a car and used physical violence. It is learned that the person was then interrogated at Anti-Terror Department without official detention and was forced to be a police informant.
The person in question stated the following in his statement to the press “I was on my way to a kiosk to shop when a car cut me off. Three people got out of the vehicle. They called my name and asked ‘is it you? When I asked who they were, one of them showed his police ID card and said ‘we are from TEM’. Then I was taken to Antep Political Branch. They asked me questions such as ‘when did you get organized’, ‘who organized you’, ‘are there others’. I told them that I did not accept their questions and their attempts to make me collaborate and that I would exercise my right to remain silent. I asked for my lawyer to come, but they did not take any action. They did not show any prosecutor’s order for my detention. I was kept in Antep Political Branch for about 10 hours, then they told me I could leave.”

2 of 4 people (A.K., M.T.) who were detained on January 30, 2026, on the grounds of participating in protests in Şırnak about attacks against Kurds in Syria, are arrested by the criminal court of peace on February 2, 2026. 2 people were released on judicial control conditions. It is learned from the news coverage of February 2, 2026 that, at least 65 people were detained for participating in protests in Şırnak and at least 33 people including 1 journalist and 19 children were arrested.

On February 3, 2026, through an Istanbul based investigation, operations were conducted in 22 cities (Istanbul, Antalya, Adıyaman, Urfa, Rize, Bursa, Van, Tekirdağ, Antep, Samsun, Tunceli, Malatya, Diyarbakır, Kocaeli, Yalova, Balıkesir, Denizli, Ankara, İzmir, Sakarya, Adana, Mersin), 96 people including 2 human rights defenders (Mehmet Acettin and Tuğba Kahraman), 5 ETHA journalists (Nadire Gürbüz, Pınar Gayıp, Elif Bayburt, Müslüm Koyun and Züleyha Müldür), Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) Co-Chair Berfin Polat, LİMTER-İş Union Chair İleri Devrim Yurtsever, ecology activist Cemil Aksu were detained.

On February 2, 20 people are detained in house raids in Yüksekova district of Hakkari on the allegations of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. The names of the detainees could not be learned.

The final hearing of the lawsuit filed against Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chairperson and Manisa MP Özgür Özel and CHP Group Deputy Chairperson and Ankara MP Murat Emir upon the complaint of Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor regarding their statements was held on February 2, 2026 at Istanbul 20th Civil Court of First Instance. The court sentenced Özgür Özel and Murat Emir to pay 150.000 TL compensation to Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 3, 2026 that, an investigation is initiated against students who protested the phobic and discriminatory event titled “Our Civilization and Our Family” held at Istanbul Medeniyet University on December 6, 2025, on the grounds of making LGBTI+ propaganda by unfurling “illegal flags” and damaging the environment with purple paint. It is not known how many students are under investigation. It is reported that an investigation was initiated for the same protest before.

It is learned that 3 news reports/posts related to Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism on https://www.birgun.net/ , https://www.diken.com.tr/, https://abcgazetesi.com.tr/ websites are banned to access on the grounds of national security and protection of public order by Istanbul 11th Criminal Judicature of Peace on January 16, 2026 and the content is ordered to be deleted.
It is learned from the news coverage of February 1, 2026 that, 1 news report on https://www.birgun.net/ website about Türk Telekom CEO’s daughter and a social media post by journalist İsmail Arı are banned to access on the grounds of protection of national security and public order.
It is learned from the news coverage of February 2, 2026 that, 2 news reports about Kayseri provincial chair of Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) on https://www.birgun.net/ and https://www.sozcu.com.tr/ websites and a social media post by journalist İsmail Arı were banned to access on the grounds of national security and protection of public order, and the social media post was made invisible from Turkey.
