(02/028) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Custody in Mersin…

According to the news appeared in the press on 1 February and 2 February 2017, 10 persons, who were detained on 18 January 2017 and among whom there are members of Pir Sultan Abdal Culture Centre and Mersin Association of Rights, for being a member of an illegal organisation are under torture in Mersin police head quarter. Günay Dağ, the lawyer of 80 percent disabled Haydar Yıldırım, told the press that his client had been subjected to physical and psychological torture, had been beaten constantly and to protest this, his client had been on hunger strike.

(02/029) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prisons…

According to the news appeared in the press on 2 February 2017, deputy manager of Van T Type Prison, together with 20 guards, raided a cell and there beat and threatened 5 prisoners. He is said to be say “I will be your Esat Oktay. I am the God here.” Lawyer Barış Oflaş told the press that this happened on 23 January 2017 and added that that the deputy manager ordered the guards to beat the prisoners in places where there were no cameras. The beaten prisoners were later transferred to other prisons.

(02/030) Detentions and Arrests…

HDP Co-chair for Van province Sevinç Şeker, who had been detained on 1 February 2017, was arrested for ‘being a member of an illegal organisation.’

The house and the office of the Cemile Eminoğlu, Co-Mayor of Bismil district of Diyarbakır from DBP, were raided by the police on 2 February 2017. The Co-Mayor was not found.

104 persons among whom there are member of Akdeniz Municipality Assembly, Faik Eroğlu, and former co-chair of Mersin YAKAYDER, Emine Eren, were detained on 2 February 2017.

10 persons, including Mersin Representative of Pir News Agency journalist Diren Keser, were detained on 2 February 2017 in Mersin by house raids. According to the news appeared in the press on 2 February 2017, detainees were working in the “No” campaign of the upcoming constitutional referendum and they are mostly members of United Revolutionary Party and HDP Youth Assembly.

 (02/031) Officers Detained…

Officers who had been expelled via a decree having force of law made sit in action with a demand to return to their jobs for the 24th time on 2 February 2017 and detained for the 24th time.

(02/032) 2 Teachers Expelled…

According to the news appeared in the press on 2 February 2017, Gülizar Işık Çay and İlhan Kılıç two teachers who had been detained on 18 January 2017 and released on 30 January 2017 in Hatay, were expelled by the District Education Directorate with the demand of Sub-governor of Samandağ on the grounds of ‘suspiciousness’.

(02/033) Investigation Against a Lawyer…

According to the news appeared in the press on 2 February 2017, an investigation was started against Mehmet Altuntaş for participating a press meeting on violation of human rights in Tarsus C Type Women Prison and thus appropriate supports of illegal organisation in prison.

(02/034) Commemoration of the Roboski Families Prevented by the Military Forces…

The relatives of the persons who were killed at Roboski Massacre, known as Roboski Families, commemorate on every Thursday at the cemetery with the demand of justice. This week’s commemoration was prevented by the military forces on 2 February 2017 on the pretext of the ban of all activities within the context of State of Emergency. Veli Encü stated that on this week’s commemoration they would announce that Roboski Families would vote for ‘no’ in the upcoming constitutional referendum and that military forces prevented this.

(02/035) Banned Activities under the State of Emergency…

Governorate of Van banned all meetings, demonstrations, public statements, press statements, sit in actions, stands and distribution of leaflets, and activities for a month starting from 3 February 2017 on 2 February 2017.

Governorate of Adana banned all meetings, demonstrations, public statements, press statements, sit in actions, stands and distribution of leaflets, and activities in 7 points of the city for one month on 2 February 2017.

(02/036) Woman’s Institution Closed Down…

İştar Woman Center, founded in 2010, was closed down and annexed to Family and Social Politics Directorate with the instruction of Hamdi Bilge Aktaş, the trustee who was appointed to Akdeniz District Municipality. The Center was giving consultation about judicial, social issues and domestic communication in the supervision of lawyers, psychologists and sociologists.

(02/037) Operations and Attack in the Southeast…

By a decree of the council of ministers, dated 27 December 2016 and No 2016/9675, the regions between Mountain of Agri and Mountain of Tendürek were declared as ’Temporary Military Security Region’ between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2017.
