(09/023) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 3, 2022 that, 1 militant died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in the rural areas of Diyarbakır on June 16, 2022; and 2 militants died in a clash on July 17, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 3, 2022 that, 2 soldiers (B. A. and F. Ö.) were injured as they were cleaning weapons in Idil district of Şırnak.

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Ümit Kesti) died in the helicopter crash during the Claw-Lock operation of the Turkish Armed Forces into the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on September 4, 2022.

(09/024) Person Died by Police Fire in Mardin…

Mardin Governorate’s Office made a declaration about Adem Kara (21), the person who died by the fire opened by the police on the grounds of “disobeying stop warning” in the market place of Midyat district of Mardin on September 1, 2022 and stated the following: “On 1 September 2022, during the operation carried out by Midyat Public Security Bureau to catch two suspects with criminal records in Sanayi neighbourhood Cizre Street, a person named Adem Kara tried to escape from our teams, and our personnel fired a warning shot into the air. As the person continued to try to escape, our personnel started to follow up, and Adem Kara was injured as the police officer’s foot tripped on a paving stone, and his gun fired. Kara, who was taken to the Mardin Training and Research Hospital, could not be saved despite all the interventions and passed away.”

(09/025) Journalists Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment in Van…

It is learned that journalist Mesut Bağcı was subjected physical violence of the police and his camera was broken by the police, as he was reporting on the demonstration held in Van for 1 September International Day of Peace.

It is also reported that the police threatened Jinnews reporter Zelal Tunç to death by saying “I will shoot you and nobody will find you”; and a police officer pulled his gun on Jinnews reporter Elfazi Toral.

It is also learned that other journalists were threatened by the police to not to share the footage of these incidents.

(09/026) Torture and Ill-Treatment Under Custody in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 4, 2022 that, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assembly member Hüsamettin Tanrıkulu who was detained in Istanbul on September 3, 2022, was threatened to death under custody.

(09/027) Racist Attack on Academician in Amasya…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 5, 2022, that academician Dr. Girayalp Karakuş of Faculty of Arts and Sciences of Amasya University was subjected to the attack of a group calling themselves “Amasya University Nationalists” during the graduation ceremony.

(09/028) Person Died in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 4, 2022 that, Engin Korçum (35) lost his life in Elazığ T Type Prison on August 29, 2022. It is stated that the prison administration told his family that the reason of his death was suicide.

(09/029) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 2, 2022 that, in Bolu F Type Prison, the Administration and Observation Boar decided that the right to conversation was limited to 3 prisoners at once, and thus prisoners do not need to leave their wards to use this right.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 5, 2022 that, Gamze Torak and Tuncay Yıldırım, who went to Izmir Kırıklar F Type Prison No. 1 for visit, were given the penalty of prevention form visits for they have greeted other prisoners.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 5, 2022 that, journalist Ziya Ataman who was transferred from Van High Security Prison to Elazığ High Security Prison No. 2 under coercion, was subjected to strip search. It is also stated that Ziya Ataman was put in a solitary cell.

(09/030) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on September 2, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

(09/031) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ağrı…

The police intervened in the press declaration of HDP, regarding drugs, held in Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı on September 2, 2022; and detained 7 people including HDP’s provincial co-chair. Detained people (Cemal Akar, Serhat Yılmaz, Bayram Özmen, Suat Yiğit, Güneş Yaşmin, Abdullah Kebude, Cemil Koç) are released on the same day.

(09/032) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on September 2, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(09/033) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the justice watch regarding ill prisoners, held in Kartal district of Istanbul on September 3, 2022; and detained at least 12 people including HDP’s district co-chair Aygül Sincar, by using physical violence.

It is learned that the police used physical violence on journalists and prevented them from recording.

(09/034) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the group, on the grounds of posters of Ibrahim Kaypakkaya, marching before the festival at 1 Mayıs neighbourhood in Istanbul on September 4, 2022 and detained 34 people. It is learned that 24 people were released on the same day while 10 people are still under custody.

(09/035) Arrested MP in Istanbul…

HDP Diyarbakır MP Semra Güzel, whose impunity has been lifted earlier, was detained on September 2, 2022. The Ministry of Interior declared that Semra Güzel was detained on her way to Edirne; Semra Güzel’s lawyers made a declaration and stated that they were prevented from seeing her for a while and that she was detained in Istanbul.

The footage of Semra Güzel handcuffed behind her back and being taken to the hospital for medical examination, and that the officers were forcing her head down, is covered by the media.

Semra Güzel is arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on September 3, 2022.

(09/036) Detained Journalist in Istanbul…

Etkin News Agency reporter Elif Bayburt, who was following the justice watch regarding ill prisoners, held in Kartal district of Istanbul on September 3, 2022 is detained by the police using physical violence.

(09/037) Human Rights Defender and Other People on Trial for ‘Insulting the President’ in Izmir…

The trial of the case against 3 people including rights defender Aytül Uçar, medical secretary of the HRFT in Izmir, on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ is held at Izmir Penal Court of First Instance No 41 on September 2, 2022. 3 people (Aytül Uçar, Emine Akbaba and İrem Çelikbaş) have been detained by the police intervening the protest against the new rector appointed to Boğaziçi University, held in Izmir on February 3, 2021.

It is learned that the camera footage of the detention vehicle which was requested from the Provincial Directorate of Security Police Department was requested for the wrong date. The court decided that the camera footage of the detention vehicle of the day of the incident be requested again, that the witnesses be heard at the next trial, and adjourned the trial to October 7, 2022.

(09/038) Izmir Bar Association Executives on Trial…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 3, 2022 that, Izmir Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against Izmir Bar Association chair and 10 members of the executive board, on the charge of ‘publicly degrading religious values’ in their statement titled “Defend life in spite of hatred” about the expressions targeting LGBTI+s in a sermon of the Presidency of Religious Affairs.

(09/039) Musician on Trial in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 2, 2022 that, Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment against musician Gülşen Bayraktar Çolakoğlu, for the expressions that she allegedly used at a concert. The indictment demands sentence from 1 year up to 3 years for Gülşen Bayraktar Çolakoğlu on the charge of ‘inciting hatred and hostility among people or degrading’.

Gülşen Bayraktar Çolakoğlu was detained and arrested on August 25, 2022; and she was released on house confinement upon the objection on August 29, 2022.

(09/040) Banned Concert in Çorum…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 3, 2022 that, musician Aleyna Tilki’s concert as a part of the Diamond Rice Festival in Osmancık district of Çorum is banned. Religious Officials Union (Diyanet-Sen) Çorum Branch chair have made a social media post saying “We are against the presentation of LGBT advocates, who live a life contrary to the morals of the society, as role models to people with their artistic identity. We invite the city’s administrators to take into account the social sensitivities and do what is necessary for the cancellation of the program” and demanded the cancellation of the concert.

It is learned that the news report about Sedat Peker’s statements, published on https://abcgazetesi.com, https://www.toplumsal.com.tr, https://www.birgun.net https://www.yenicaggazetesi.com.tr websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No. 5 on September 2, 2022.

It is learned that the website of Etkin News Agency https://www.etha46.com is banned to access on the grounds of “protection of national security and public order” by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No. 3 on September 2, 2022.

It is learned that the websites of Kızıl Bayrak magazine https://kizilbayrak71.net and https://kizilbayrak72.net are banned to access on the grounds of “protection of national security and public order” by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No. 3 on August 11, 2022 and by Maraş Penal Court of Peace No. 2 on August 25, 2022.

(09/042) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared on September 5, 2022 that 231 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the number of Covid-19 cases is 80,020 between August 15 and 21, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared on September 5, 2022 that 209 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the number of Covid-19 cases is 57,265 between August 22 and 28, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 100,840 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 16,797,750 as of August 28, 2022.
