(05/008) Operations and Attacks…

According to news reports published on April 25, 2025, on March 22, 2025, in the Hakurk region within the borders of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (IKBY), a clash broke out between Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) units and HPG militants, resulting in the death of one militant.

According to news reports on April 28, 2025, three militants were killed in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) units and HPG militants in the Amediye region within the borders of the KRG on February 21, 2025.

According to news reports on April 30, 2025, two militants were killed in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) units and HPG militants on April 11, 2025, in the Zap region within the borders of the IKBY.

The Ministry of National Defense (MSB) announced on May 4, 2025, that one soldier (Önder Özen) was killed in an explosion during the ongoing “Pençe-Kilit” operation within the borders of the IKBY.

(05/009) Interventions, Restrictions, and Bans on May 1 Activities…

On May 1, 2025, 419 people, including 10 children and 11 lawyers, were detained by police in Istanbul. Six of them were arrested on May 2, 2025, by a magistrate’s court to which they were referred. Thirty individuals were released under judicial supervision, while 383 were released after completing their statements at the police station on May 1, 2025.

On April 30, 2025, during house raids in Istanbul, 33 people were detained on the grounds that they had called for a gathering at Taksim Square. Among them were members of the “May 1, 2025 Taksim Organizing Committee,” including Karayolları Taşımacılık ve Emekçileri Sendikası (KATAŞ-SEN) General President Şahin Başaraner, Kamber Saygılı, General President of the Limter İş Trade Union, and Yunus Özgür, Organization Secretary of the Construction Workers’ Trade Union (İnşaat-İş), were detained on April 30, 2025, during house raids in Istanbul on the grounds that they had called for a gathering at Taksim Square. Of the 33 individuals detained, 14 were arrested by the magistrate’s court on May 2 and 4, 2025, while 19 were released on judicial supervision.

During the police intervention against the march held on May 1, 2025, on Istiklal Street in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, a child named O.B. (16, male) was detained after physical violence was used, and in his statement published in the press regarding the torture and other ill-treatment he was subjected to, he stated the following: “We were placed in handcuffs with our hands behind our backs. Someone kicked me there, but I didn’t feel it at the time; I noticed the marks on my T-shirt later. I have kidney problems. Despite shouting ‘I can’t breathe,’ civilian police officers approached me even though they could see I was a minor. They aimed punches at my eyes. I estimate I was struck 15-20 times. After standing up, I said, ‘I want the ID number of the person who hit me.’ He replied, ‘Who are you to ask for my ID?’ One person covered my mouth to silence me, another squeezed my throat, and another continued to slap me (…) When we were taken for a medical examination, the doctor saw the bruises from the beating but did not take our complaints seriously and did not include them in the report (…) I was kept in the same vehicle with adults for an hour at the Vatan Police Station. I was not allowed to get out of the vehicle for basic needs.”

(05/010) Political Party Members, Union Members, and Other Individuals Detained in İzmir…

On May 30, 2025, during house raids in İzmir, 41 people, including Savaş Candemir, the president of the İzmir 5th Branch of the Education Workers’ Union (Eğitim Sen), and members and leaders of the Labor Party (Emek Partisi), the Turkey Workers’ Party (TİP), and the SOL Party, were detained. One of them (Murat Aktaş) was arrested by the magistrate’s court on May 2, 2025. Six people were released on judicial control conditions. Thirty-four people, including Savaş Candemir, who were detained as part of the same investigation, were released on April 30, 2025, after giving their statements to the police.

(05/011) People Detained in Tunceli…

Three individuals (B.K., N.D., and O.T.) detained during house raids in the Pertek district of Tunceli on May 2, 2025, were arrested by the magistrate’s court on May 3, 2025, on charges of “aiding the organization.”

(05/012) Party Leader Detained in Mersin…

On May 4, 2025, during an event in Mersin, copies of the 49th issue of the Democratic Modernity magazine were confiscated by the police on the grounds that there was a seizure order against them, and Ahmet Gücenmez, the Mersin provincial executive of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), was detained on charges of “making organization propaganda.”

(05/013) Physical Attack on Party Chairman in Istanbul…

Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel was physically attacked by one person as he was leaving a memorial event held at the Atatürk Cultural Center in Istanbul’s Beyoğlu district for Sırrı Süreyya Önder. It was reported that the attacker, identified as S.T., was detained.

(05/014) Party Staff Members Subjected to Physical Attack in Ankara…

It was reported that the advisor and driver of İYİ Party Adana Deputy Ayyüce Türkeş were subjected to physical violence by a group at the cemetery during her visit to her father Alpaslan Türkeş’s grave on May 3, 2025. Ayyüce Türkeş stated the following in her statement to the press regarding the attack: “I came to visit my father’s grave in the evening, and suddenly they wouldn’t let me in with the car. I got out and walked in. When I turned around, fists were flying; they punched my driver and bodyguard.”

(05/015) Attack on Party Booth…

According to news reports on May 5, 2025, an attack was carried out by unknown individuals on a booth opened by the CHP in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul, resulting in injuries to a child named A.Ç.C. (15, male).

(05/016) Internet Content Subject to Access Restrictions…

According to news reports on May 2, 2025, access to two news articles published on the websites https://t24.com.tr/ and https://platform24.org/ was blocked under Article 8/A of Law No. 5651 on the grounds of protecting national security and public order.

(05/017) Individuals Detained in Aydın…

According to news reports published on May 2, 2025, 22 individuals were detained in four provinces (Aydın, Ankara, Hatay, and Denizli) as part of an investigation centered in Aydın. It was learned that 14 of the 22 individuals detained on allegations of being active in the organization’s current student structure were released after being questioned by the Aydın police, while 8 were released by the magistrate’s court under judicial control. However, the dates of their detention could not be determined.

(05/018) Individuals Detained in Ankara…

On May 5, 2025, 33 individuals, including some public officials, were detained in Ankara during house raids on allegations of being involved in the “security secret structure.”
