(12/030) Person Died by Police Fire in Izmir…

It is learned that a person named Bülent A. died as a result of the fire opened by the police on the grounds of “disobeying stop warning” in Çiğli district of Izmir on December 2, 2022. Izmir Governorate’s Office made a declaration and stated the following: “B.A. (47) sitting in the right front passenger seat of the vehicle. (47) waited with the vehicle door open despite the warning, and did not get out of the vehicle persistently despite the warnings of the officer in charge to show his hands and get out of the vehicle. Due to the fact that he was hiding his right hand behind his waist, a warning shot was fired into the air by the officer in charge, considering the possibility of an armed attack. Subsequently, while the officer in charge intervened to get the suspect out of the vehicle, the person attacked the police officer with a knife. During the struggle, the gun of the officer in charge fired one shot and the suspect was injured in the left abdominal cavity, and the officer in charge was injured by an incision in the abdomen. The suspect could not be saved and died despite all the interventions made by the medical teams who came to the scene. A judicial and administrative investigation has been initiated regarding the incident.”

It is learned that a person named H. T. for whom a detention warrant was issued, was shot to death by the police in the clash that took place on the grounds of “disobeying stop warning” and shooting at the police officers, in Uşak on December 4, 2022.

(12/032) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 3, 2022 that, 1 militant died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Zap area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on November 22, 2022.

(12/033) Torture and Ill-Treatment Under Custody in Niğde…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 3, 2022 that, a person named Koray Türk was subjected to torture and ill-treatment at Kemerhisar Gendarmerie Command where he was taken after being detained in Bor district of Niğde on November 29, 2022.

Koray Türk stated the following to the press: “All of a sudden, they grabbed my arms from behind, put on handcuffs and laid me on the ground. While I was on the ground, someone stepped on my head with their foot. While I was on the ground, all the officers kicked and punched (…) When we went to the station, I was taken to the disabled toilet where I was beaten for 4-5 hours by the personnel named M. Ç., G. and H. and 5-6 others whose names I did not know (…) He threatened me saying ‘What should we do with you, should we abuse or rape you?’, he hit me in the face with the butt of his own gun. They broke my phone. M. Ç. said to me, ‘Did you hear my name?’ and I told him ‘Lieutenant M.’ then he said, ‘You heard wrong, I am the God of Kemerhisar’ and continued to hit me. They knocked me down here. He hit me in the face with the butt of his gun. I was kept in handcuffs behind my back for 5 and a half hours.”

It is learned that a trans woman street musician named Melis Yağmur Hanzade, was attacked by a person saying “You are a child trying to make music on streets, I am banning you from the streets” in Konak district of Izmir on December 3, 2022.

(12/035) Attack on CHP Executive in Antalya…

It is learned that the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Gazipaşa district chair Yavuz Demir was attacked by 2 unidentified persons at a restaurant and was injured at several parts of his body, in Antalya on December 3, 2022.

(12/036) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the justice watch protest for ill prisoners, held in front of Çağlayan Courthouse in Istanbul on December 2, 2022 and detained 4 people including 1 child (Cemile Çiftçi, Zeynep Calıhan and Gülsüm Öztürk) by using physical violence.

(12/037) Detained People Through Ankara Based Investigation…

8 of 21 people who were detained in Diyarbakır, İstanbul, Muş, Ağrı, Siirt and Antep through an Ankara based investigation against Tevgera Jinên Azad – Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activists on November 29, 2022 and onwards, are arrested by the court on December 3, 2022 while 13 of them are released on house confinement.

Arrested people are: F. A., F. E., M. O., D. Ç. B. A., H. G., H. K. ve G. D.

Detainees released on house confinement are: Y. A. K., H. T., Z. G., S. E., M. Ş., Z. B., D. A., M. T. D., H. A., A. C., B. C., T. Ç., H. A.

 (12/038) Detained People in Mersin…

2 people who were detained in Mersin on November 30, 2022 are arrested by the court on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on December 2, 2022.

(12/039) Detained Person in Kocaeli…

It is learned that Şadiye Manap, who was detained on December 1, 2022 on the grounds of an investigation before she left Kocaeli Gebze Women’s Prison after 30 years, although she was released, before she was released is arrested by the court on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on December 5, 2022.

(12/040) Kobanê Case…

The trial of the case against 108 members and executives of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) including former co-chairs, including 18 arrestees, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 22 between November 21 and December 2, 2022.

The court decided to continue detention of Ali Ürküt, Alp Altınörs, Ayla Akat Ata, Ayşe Yağcı, Bülent Parmaksız, Dilek Yağlı, Gültan Kışanak, Günay Kubilay, İsmail Şengül, Nazmi Gür, Pervin Oduncu, Sebahat Tuncel, Selahattin Demirtaş, Figen Yüksekdağ, Meryem Adıbelli, Aynur Aşan, Zeynep Ölbeci and Zeynep Karaman and adjourned the trial to be held between December 19 and 30, 2022.

(12/041) People on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against 70 people who were detained by the police intervening in the press declaration held on June 12, 2022 in Kadıköy district of Istanbul, for the “Gemlik March” regarding the isolation of the PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, is held at Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No. 9 on December 2, 2022. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to February 24, 2023.

(12/042) Onur Yaser Can Case…

The trial of the case against 4 police officers on the charge of ‘counterfeiting official documents’ and ‘damage of an official document’ and against 1 expert on the charge of ‘false statement’, regarding the death of Onur Yaser Can, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 41 on December 2, 2022. Onur Yaser Can was detained in Istanbul in 2010, and killed himself after he was subjected to torture and ill-treatment under custody. After witness hearings the court adjourned the trial to February 3, 2023.

(12/043) Ministry of Interior Examination About District Municipality…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 2, 2022 that an examination and preliminary investigation was initiated by the Ministry of Interior regarding the CHP Municipality in Nilüfer district of Bursa, on the grounds of the solidarity center opened for LGBTI+s.

(12/044) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that the news reports about strip search of a hotel employee, published on https://ilerihaber.org, https://www.birgun.net websites and a social media post about the issue are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No. 4 on December 2, 2022.

It is learned that the news reports regarding the lien on the bank accounts of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, published on https://ilerihaber.org, https://www.birgun.net, https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr websites are ruled to be deleted on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No. 4 on December 2, 2022.
