(04/030) Person Shot by Police for Disobeying Stop Warning in Izmir…

It is learned that a person (E. A.) who was detained in Izmir and was reported to ran away while he was brought to Izmir Courthouse on April 4, 2021; was shot by the police on the grounds of ‘disobeying stop warning’. It is reported that E. A. was injured at the leg and was admitted to Ege University Hospital.

(04/031) Detained Parliamentary Member in Ankara…

Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, Kocaeli MP of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) who was stripped of MP status on the grounds of a finalised jail sentence; is detained by the police using physical violence in his home in Ankara on April 2, 2021.

It is learned that Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu was brought to Ankara Courthouse first and then he had an angiography at Ankara City Hospital where he was taken for heart and chest pain. It is learned that Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu who was at intensive care unit was taken from hospital before he was fully treated and was brought to Ankara Sincan F Type Hospital No 2 on April 3, 2021, without noticing his family and lawyers.

(04/032) Detained People in Izmir for Social Media Posts…

On April 3, 2021 7 people are detained in house raids in Izmir on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ on social media. Names of detained people are unknown.

(04/033) Detained Association Executives in Mersin and Antalya…

On March 30, 2021, 12 people were detained through an Antalya based investigation against Solidarity Association of Prisoners’ Families (TUHAD-FED). 11 of them (former executives of TUHAD-FED Celal Yel, Hasan Vadi, Ali Bilen, Kadri Ezer, Nermin Aktuğ, Diyar Turgut, Eylem Turgut, Serhat Turgut, Hazal Yıldız, Bayram Taş and Selma Demir) are released by the court on judicial control conditions on April 3, 2021. 1 person (Yener Aydın) was released after statement procedures at the police on March 30, 2021.

(04/034) Detained Members and Executives of HDP in Antalya…

2 people (HDP Party Assembly member Songül Şarklı and HDP member Selma Yavuz) who were detained in house raids in Antalya on March 30, 2021 are released by the court on judicial control conditions on April 2, 2021.

(04/035) Detained People in Adana…

On April 3, 2021, 8 people are detained in house raids in Adana on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and ‘participating in demonstrations’. Names of detained people are unknown.

(04/036) Journalists on Trial in Van…

The first trial of the case against Mezopotamya News Agency reporters Zeynep Durgut, Adnan Bilen, Cemil Uğur and Jinnews reporter Şehriban Abi and journalist Nazan Sala is held at Van Heavy Penal Court No 5 on April 2, 2021.

It is learned that only 4 journalists were allowed in the courtroom, on the grounds of precautions for Covid-19 pandemic. After defence hearings the court decided to release Adnan Bilen, Cemil Uğur, Şehriban Abi and Nazan Sala and adjourned the trial to July 2, 2021.

5 journalists were detained on October 6, 2021 and 4 of them were arrested by the court on October 9, 2021.

(04/037) People on Trial for Protests Against New Rector Appointment to Boğaziçi University…

The first trial of the case against 23 people including 2 arrestees, for the demonstration held in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on February 2, 2021 to protest new rector appointment to Boğaziçi University, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 38 on April 2, 2021.

After defence hearings 5 police officers are heard as witnesses. The court decided to release Anıl Akyüz and Şilan Delipalta and adjourned the trial to June 18, 2021.

(04/038) Former DBP Co-Chair, Journalist and Other People on Trial in Batman…

The trial of the case against 28 people including Democratic Regions Party (DBP) former co-chair Sebahat Tuncel and İdris Yayla, the grant holder of Jiyan News, is held at Batman Penal Court of First Instance No 1 on April 2, 2021. The case was opened for the press declaration held in 2016 to protest trustee appointments to municipalities. The court decided to have Sebahat Tuncel joining the next trial via sound and vision system and adjourned the trial to September 7, 2021.

(04/039) Investigation Against Journalist…

It is learned that an investigation was initiated against journalist Yılmaz Özdil on the grounds of defaming Atatürk’s memory in a social media post; and that Yılmaz Özdil made his official statement through the investigation at the prosecutor’s office.

(04/040) The Case on Killing of 4 People During Electoral Campaign in Urfa…

On June 14, 2018, Justice and Development Party (AKP) Urfa MP candidate İbrahim Halil Yıldız and his personal guards had a quarrel with shopkeepers in Suruç district of Urfa which resulted in death of 4 people (Mehmet Yılmaz, Esvet Şenyaşar and his sons Adil Şenyaşar and Celal Şenyaşar) and injury of 9 people. Fadıl Şenyaşar, who was also injured, was detained and arrested on June 17, 2018 right after being discharged from the hospital; and Enver Yıldız was detained and arrested at Urfa Courthouse on September 18, 2019. A case was opened against 13 people including Esvet Şenyaşar’s wife Emine Şenyaşar and Ferit Şenyaşar who was also injured; and the trials were moved to Malatya for security problems. The final trial of the case against 13 people including 2 arrestees is held at April 2, 2021.

The court sentenced Fadıl Şenyaşar to 37 years and 9 months on the charges of ‘killing’ and ‘injury’. The court sentenced Enver Yıldız to life imprisonment on the charge of ‘killing’, and then reduced the sentence to 18 years on the grounds of extreme provocation. The court sentenced 9 people to jail penalties differing from 4 years 8 months and 18 days to 6 months and 22 days, and decided no penalty for 1 person, separated the case against 1 person.

(04/041) Ban of Events in Muş and Siirt…

Muş Governorate made a declaration on April 2, 2021 and announced that all meetings, open-door assemblies, demonstrations, marches, sit-in protests, human chains, op-ed stands, public sessions, any kind of audio-visual activities with mobile audio-visual vehicles, hunger strikes, opening stands, collecting petitions, concerts, festivals, theatre plays, screening shows, distributing leaflets, hanging banners, press declarations, indoor meetings and so on are banned for 15 days as of April 3, 2021.

Siirt Governorate made a declaration on April 2, 2021 and announced that all meetings, open-door and indoor assemblies, demonstrations, press declarations, opening tents, sit-in protests, opening stands, collecting petitions, commemorations and so on are banned for 15 days as of April 5, 2021.

(04/042) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that three news reports about sexual harassment allegations against Republican Peoples’ Party (CHP) Osmangazi district former chair, published on https://www.sozcu.com.tr and https://www.sabah.com.tr websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Bursa Penal Court of Peace No 6 on April 2, 2021.

It is learned that three news reports about an admiral published on https://www.birgun.net, https://www.veryansintv.com, https://halktv.com.tr websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No 7 on March 31, 2021.

(04/043) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On April 2, 2021, 14 people including lawyers are detained through an Ankara based investigation; 28 people including military members on active duty are detained in operations covering 9 cities through an Ankara based investigation.

25 of 93 people who were detained through an Istanbul based investigation are arrested by the court on April 3, 2021. 65 people are released provided that 43 of them will be on judicial control conditions. It is learned that 3 people are still under custody.

It is learned that the objection of the prosecutor’s office against release of 33 people who were detained through an Izmir based investigation on March 23, 2021 is accepted on April 3, 2021 and 15 people who were detained again are arrested.

(04/044) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 179 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 1,471 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on April 2, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 42.308.

The Ministry of Health declared that 186 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 1,483 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on April 3, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 44.756.

The Ministry of Health declared that 185 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 1,508 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on April 4, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 41.998.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 32,263 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 3,487,050 as of April 4, 2021.
