(07/010) The Seyithan Durdu Case…

Regarding the death of Seyithan Duru on December 28, 2024, as a result of gunfire opened by soldiers in the rural neighborhood of Avzêrk, located in the Saray district of Van, a case was filed against Y.A., the commander of the Tulgalı Border Outpost, 3rd Border Company, 2nd Border Battalion, in the Van Heavy Penal Court No. 1 regarding the death of Seyithan Duru on December 28, 2024, in the rural neighborhood of Avzêrk, part of the Saray district of Van, as a result of gunfire opened by soldiers. The indictment seeks the defendant soldier’s conviction for the crime of “manslaughter with probable intent.” The court adjourned the hearing until September 25, 2026.

(07/011) Interventions, Detentions, and Bans Related to NATO Summit Protests…

On July 1, 2026, in Adana, six members of the Social Freedom Party (TÖP) (Ali Deniz İznebioğlu, Zeliha Korkmaz, Selver Büyükkeleş, Ece İdil Ceylan, İbrahim Çap, and Ahmet Ekinci), along with three members of the Adana Halkevi (Taksim Akyüzlü, Mesut Çoruk, and Emine Akbaba) who were hanging banners related to the NATO summit, were detained following a police intervention. The nine detainees were released the same day after giving their statements to the police.

Journalist Fatma Sibel Gürcihan, who was detained on June 30, 2026, on the grounds of a social media post she made, was arrested on July 1, 2026, by the magistrate’s court to which she was referred.

Cumhuriyet reporter Gülnur Saydam was detained in Istanbul on July 1, 2026, in connection with a news story she had written, and was released on July 2, 2026, following her questioning at the police station.

(07/014) Individuals Detained in Bolu…

On July 1, 2026, as part of an investigation into the Bolu Municipality, 10 people were detained on allegations of “embezzlement” and “laundering assets derived from crime.”

(07/015) Comedian Threatened by a Political Party Chairperson…

According to news reports on July 1, 2026, comedian Deniz Göktaş was threatened by the chairman of the Great Unity Party (BBP) with the words, “If you speak ill of my holy book, we will cut out that tongue,” over a joke he made during his show.

(07/016) Social Media Accounts Subject to Access Restrictions…

According to news reports published on July 1, 2026, it was learned that access to the YouTube channel “Siber Haber,” owned by Tamar Tanrıyar, was restricted on the grounds of protecting national security and public order.

According to news reports published on July 2, 2026, access to the website and X social media account of Nûmedya24; the website and X social media account of Ajansa Welat; and the Azadiya Welat website was blocked by a decision of the Information Technologies and Communications Board on the grounds of protecting national security and public order.
