(09/290) Operations and Attacks…
It is learned that 1 civilian (Ali Akpınar) died and 2 people were injured in an attack against persons cutting trees in the rural areas of Nusaybin district of Mardin on September 28, 2022. Mardin Governorate’s Office made the following statement: “An armoured attack was organized on the tree trimmers in Dibek neighbourhood of Nusaybin district at around 10.58 on 28.09.2022 by two anonymous individuals in plain clothes using pistols at close range, and Ali Akpınar, the worker of the contractor firm at the Nusaybin Forestry Operations Directorate, was injured and died in Midyat Public Hospital.

It is learned that Mustafa Murat Ayhan, a prisoner kept in solitary cell in Diyarbakır T Type Prison No. 1 attempted suicide on September 29, 2022 and died in hospital.

It is learned that the appeal made on September 29, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

It is learned that 3 people are detained in house raids in Uludere district of Şırnak for social media posts on September 29, 2022.

The trial of the case against journalist Hayri Demir on the charges of “being an illegal organisation member” and “making propaganda for an illegal organisation” is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 15 on September 28, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to October 4, 2022.
(09/295) The Case Against Tarlabaşı Community Center…
The trial of the case against the Association for Supporting Tarlabaşı Community (known as Tarlabaşı Community Center), on the grounds of ‘detection of nullity’, is held at Istanbul Civil Court of Peace No. 8 on September 29, 2022. The court accepted the intervention demand of the Ministry of Family and Social Services and adjourned the trial to May 9, 2023.
(09/296) Police Officer on Trial in Istanbul…
The first trial of the case against police officer S. E. regarding the death of Çetin Kaya by police fire in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on November 29, 2021 is held at Istanbul Anadolu Heavy Penal Court No. 13 on September 28, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for the defendant police officer on the charge of ‘intentional killing’. The defendant police officer S. E. joined the trial via sound and vision system and made defence. A witness who was heard at the trial stated that, Çetin Kaya did not resist the police on the contrary to the police officer’s allegations. The court decided to continue detention of S. E. and adjourned the trial to December 28, 2022.

The trial of the case against police officer S. G., regarding injury of 2 people (Şeyhmus Yılmaz and Menice Yılmaz) who has been subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the police using dogs during a police raid to their house, is held at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No. 4 on September 28, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for the defendant police officer on the charge of ‘intentional injury on account of a public officer misusing his influence’. It is learned that the defendant police officer S. G. did not attend the trial despite of the court’s decision for summon. The court decided to bring S. G. to the next trial by force and adjourned the trial.

The final trial of the case against 3 village guards (Ş. A., V. A. and M. A.) regarding death of Musa Çelik, in the Mesken rural neighbourhood of Midyat district of Mardin on November 21, 2021, is held at Midyat Heavy Penal Court on September 29, 2022. The court sentenced Ş. A. to 12 years and 6 months on the charge of ‘intentional killing under unjust provocation’ and decided to continue detention. The court sentenced V. A. to 1 year and 8 months on the charge of ‘threat under unjust provocation’ and decided to release of V. A. and acquittal of M. A.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 29, 2022 that, Istanbul Governorate’s Office did not permit for investigation against the Provincial Police Directorate’s Chief of Security M. H. Z., on the grounds of “lack of concrete evidence” regarding the criminal complaint of participants of the Istanbul Pride March on allegations of torture and other ill-treatment.

It is leaned that 8 people are detained in Kayseri and 1 person is detained in Antalya on September 29, 2022.
