(01/280) Syrian Citizen Forced to be Police Informant in Mardin…

It is learned from the news coverage of January 28, 2021 that, a Syrian citizen (A. R.) who was called to Mardin Provincial Directorate of Migration Management for missing documents, was forced to be a police informant by 2 persons who claim themselves as intelligence officers. It is stated in the news reports that although A. R. rejected them, he was called again and was threatened to be deported. It is reported that A. R. applied to Human Rights Association (IHD) and made a criminal complaint.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 27, 2021 that, journalist Mehmet Aslan who was arrested in Antalya on January 5, 2021, was forced to strip search at the entrance of Antalya L Type Prison.

(01/282) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on January 27, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

(01/283) Attack to Future Party Executive in Ankara…

3 of 5 people who were detained on January 27, 2021, in relation to the attack against Selçuk Özdağ, deputy chair of the Future Party, in Ankara on January 15, 2021, are arrested by the court on January 28, 2021. 2 people are released on judicial control conditions. The number of arrested people in relation to the attack is 5 so far.

The police prevented the press declaration of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Tunceli on January 28, 2021; which was held to draw attention to indefinite hunger strikes that started on November 27, 2020 in prisons to demand an end to isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan.

On January 28, 2021, 7 people (HDP district executive Ayşe Adlığ, HDP Youth Assembly member Harun Aydın, Zeki Çınar, Emin Okan, Özcan Okan, Mehmet Şah Çetin, Mehmet Tahir Kaygusuz) including HDP members and executives are detained in house raids in Batman on the grounds of social media posts.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 28, 2021 that, Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against 23 lawyers, on the grounds of ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’, for participating in the press declaration in Ankara to protest the new regulation on bar associations.

(11/287) Writer on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against writer Faik Bulut, on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ through an investigation against Democratic Society Congress (DTK), is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 4 on January 28, 2021.

After defence hearings the court acquitted Faik Bulut.

(01/288) The Case Against People for Defending Ecology in Sinop…

The final trial of the case against 37 people, for participating in the protests against the thermal power plant Project in Gerze district of Sinop, is held at Gerze Penal Court of First Instance on January 28, 2021.

The court sentenced 37 people to 42 years 9 months and 27 days and to a fine of 63,000 Turkish Liras on the charges of ‘violation of freedom of work’, ‘resisting to prevent a public officer from carrying on duty’, ‘setting fire on land’, ‘participating in an unlawful meeting with arms’, ‘organising and leading unlawful meetings’.

The police have used pepper spray, pressurized water and clubs to intervene the protest against the thermal power plant project in Gerze on September 5, 2011; at least 18 people were injured. The power plant project was cancelled for violating the Law on Forests in 2015.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 28, 2021 that, Marmara University initiated an administrative investigation against Faculty of Economics member Bülent N. N., for the alleged answer options “Tayyip always wins” and “Ask Tayyip” of two questions in the final exam.

(01/290) Non-payment of Public Relief to a Person in Izmir…

It is learned from the news coverage of January 28, 2021 that, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality provided a relief of 10,000 Turkish Liras to Ayşe Dabak, a survivor of Izmir earthquake; and Vakıfbank did not paid the amount to Ayşe Dabak, on the grounds that her name was on “the list of banned people” for she was dismissed by a state of emergency decree.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 28, 2021 that, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality provided a relief of 500 Turkish Liras to Ömer Albayrak for Covid-19 pandemic; and Vakıfbank did not paid the amount to Ömer Albayrak, on the grounds that his name was on “the list of banned people”.

(01/292) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

It is learned that Ahmet Yiğit, who was detained in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is brought to Turkey on January 27, 2021.

On January 28, 2021, 13 people are detained in operations covering 11 cites through an Erzincan based investigation.

16 of 35 people who were detained in Izmir on January 25, 2021 are arrested on January 29, 2021. 13 people are released provided that 12 of them will be on judicial control conditions and 6 people are sent to other cities for investigation.

(01/293) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 129 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 670 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on January 28, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 7,279.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 25,605 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 2,457,118 as of January 28, 2021.

It is learned that a health worker (Cavit Pehlican) in Istanbul lost his life from Covid-19 on January 28, 2021.
