On December 26, 2023, a soldier named O.K. attempted suicide at his residence and was seriously wounded and taken to Nevşehir State Hospital where he died on December 28, 2023.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 28, 2023, that prisoners in Antalya Manavgat High Security Prison, who are on a hunger strike demanding an end to the isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan and a democratic solution to the Kurdish issue, were threatened with disciplinary proceedings and solitary confinement, were subjected to verbal violence of wardens, garbage in the corridor was emptied into their wards and prisoners were pressured to eat.

It is learned that the appeal made on December 29, 2023, to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, to visit them was not responded to.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 28, 2023, that families of Middle East Technical University (ODTÜ) Labour Youth members were called by people claiming themselves as Ankara Security Directorate officers and were told that the protests of the students were illegal and that they might be subjected to intervention.

On December 28, 2023, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Siirt provincial co-chairs Ferhat Başkurt and Muazzez Bulga, Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Parti) Party Assembly members Maşallah Erbey and Ahmet İstek, DEM Parti central district co-chair Rahime Kaysi, DEM Parti provincial organization executives Takyedin Alver and Kıymet Mut, and Siirt Municipality co-mayor candidate Elif Akan were detained in Siirt. It is learned that 8 people were taken to Siirt Provincial Security Directorate. Detained people were released after statement procedures at the police on December 29, 2023.

On December 29, 2023, Mezopotamya Agency reporter Hakan Yalçın was detained in a house raid in Van and taken to Van Provincial Security Directorate. The reason for the detention is not known.

On December 28, 2023, journalist Furkan Karabay was called to the police station on the grounds of a news report he had published and was detained on the charges of ‘targeting people who took part in the fight against terrorism’ and ‘slander’ and was taken to Istanbul Provincial Security Directorate. Furkan Karabay was arrested by the court on December 29, 2023.

9 of 10 people who were detained when the police intervened against the demonstration in front of Urfa DEM Parti Ceylanpınar District Organization to protest Turkey’s operations in Syria and attacks against DEM Parti were released on December 27, 2023. The detention period of Mehmet Naci Yılmaz was extended by 1 day on the grounds of ‘resisting the police’. Yılmaz was released by the court on December 28, 2023 on judicial control condition.

2 of 18 people, including DEM Parti provincial and district executives, who were detained in operations covering 4 cities through a Tekirdağ based investigation on December 26, 2023, were released after statement procedures at the police. 7 people were arrested by the court on December 28, 2023, on the charges of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. 9 people were released on judicial control condition. The names of arrested people are: E.B., R.A., C.T., A.Ö., H.O., E.A.D. and E.E.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 29, 2023 that, the indictment of Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against journalist Evrim Kepenek, on the grounds of her news reports on gendarmerie seizing aid collected in the Pazarcık district of Maraş after February 6, 2023 earthquakes, on the charge of ‘publicly disseminating misleading information’, was accepted by Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 13. The first hearing of the case will be held on September 23, 2024.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 29, 2023, that access to many news reports about the Director of National Intelligence Service (MIT) was banned and the content was ordered to be deleted. It is learned that access to a content on https://ifade.org.tr was banned by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 5 on December 21, 2023, on the grounds of violation of personal rights and the content was ordered to be deleted.
It is learned from the news coverage of December 28, 2023 that the news report on https://halktv.com.tr, about a child (3, f) in Izmir being subjected to sexual abuse by his father’s partner, was banned to access by Izmir Karşıyaka Penal Court of Peace No 1 on December 27, 2023, on the grounds of violation of personal rights.
It is learned that news reports on https://www.sabah.com.tr, https://beyazgazete.com and https://www.medyaradar.com about the owner of Asoy Construction, which participates in municipal contracts, were banned to access by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 10 on December 28, 2023, on the grounds of violation of personal rights.
