(12/270) TMA Chair and HRFT Board Member Arrested…
The trial of the case against Professor Şebnem Korur Fincancı, the Turkish Medical Association (TMA) chair and the HRFT executive board member, on the grounds of her statements to a news channel, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 24 on December 29, 2022. The court rejected the intervention demand of the Ministry of National Defence once again, and rejected to hold the trial in a larger room. The court also rejected the objection of the lawyers regarding the limitation of 3 lawyers. After defence hearings the lawyers demanded recusation which was also rejected by the court. The court decided to continue detention and adjourned the trial to January 11, 2023.

It is learned that 12 soldiers were injured as a result of the rollover of an armoured vehicle belonging to the 5th Border Regiment Command in Iğdır on December 29, 2022 near Karakoyunlu district.

It is learned that the appeal made on December 29, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 28, 2022 that, journalist Ramazan Geciken who is held in Diyarbakır High Security Prison was not given the book “Execution Nights in Sinop” published by Aram Publishing House and sent to him by his family.
(12/274) Gendarmerie Intervention to a Protest in Izmir…
The gendarmerie intervened in the protest demanding reemployment of Erdoğan Çapaklı who was dismissed by Polyak Eynez Mining Company in Kınık district of Izmir on December 28, 2022, and detained at least 6 people including the Independent Miners Union (Bağımsız Maden-İş) chair Gökay Çakır, organisation specialist Başaran Aksu and union representative Ozan Çetin by using physical violence.
The gendarmerie intervened in the protest once again on December 28, 2022 and detained 6 people. It is learned that 1 person (Erdoğan Çapaklı) has fainted during the intervention.

It is learned that the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Fındıklı district representative Tugay Köse who was detained on November 2, 2022 and was arrested by the court on November 4, 2022 in Rize, is released from prison on December 28, 2022.
(12/276) Gezi Case…
The Penal Department No. 3 of Istanbul Regional Justice Court approved the sentences given by Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 13 in the case against 17 people, on December 28, 2022.
The court has sentenced Osman Kavala to heavy life imprisonment on the charge of ‘attempting to overthrow the government’, and sentenced Mücella Yapıcı, Çiğdem Mater, Hakan Altınay, Mine Özerden, Can Atalay, Tayfun Kahraman, Yiğit Ali Ekmekçi to 18 years each on the charge of ‘aiding to the attempt to overthrow the government’ and has decided to arrest them.
(12/277) Students on Trial for Participating in a Protest in Istanbul…
The final trial of the case against 12 students of Boğaziçi University, who have been detained for carrying a “rainbow flag” in a protest against the new rector appointed by President, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 24 on December 29, 2022. The court acquitted 12 people.

The final trial of the case against HDP Van provincial co-chair Fikret Doğan, İpekyolu district former co-chair Dilgeş Aslan, Cengiz Acar and Yaver Kumli, for the banner about the racist attack in Konya where 7 people have died, hung outside of HDP’s İpekyolu district office, is held at Van Penal Court of First Instance No. 4 on December 28, 2022.
The indictment demands sentence for 4 people on the charge of ‘inciting hatred and hostility among public’. The court sentenced 3 people (Fikret Doğan, Cengiz Acar and Dilgeş Aslan) to 10 months each and deferred the announcement of the verdict. The court sentenced Yaver Kumli to a penalty fine of 6,000 Turkish Liras.
(12/279) GÖÇİZDER Case…
The first trial of the case demanding closure of the Migration Monitoring Association (GÖÇİZ-DER) is held at Istanbul Bakırköy Civil Court of First Instance No. 15 on December 28, 2022. The court rejected to drop the case, send a writ to the Directorate of Civil Society Relations of the Ministry of Interior and to Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 26 regarding the case against members of the association and adjourned the trial to March 10, 2023.
(12/280) October 10 – Ankara Massacre Case…
The trial of the case against Erman Ekici and 16 fugitive defendants, for October 10 – Ankara Massacre, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 4 on December 27, 2022. Erman Ekici, the only arrested defendant of the case joined the trial via sound and vision system. Kasım Güler, who is arrested over another case is heard as a witness at the trial. The court decided to continue detention of Erman Ekici, and send a writ to Ankara Provincial Security Directorate for the plan of the area and adjourned the trial to March 23, 2023.

It is learned that the news reports about the statement by the head of HUDA-PAR on child marriages published on https://www.diken.com.tr/, https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr/, https://www.birgun.net/, https://halktv.com.tr/, https://www.evrensel.net/ and https://haber.sol.org.tr/ are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No. 8 on December 29, 2022.
