(08/166) Postponement of Prisoners’ Release…
It is learned from the statement of the Human Rights Association (HRA) on August 28, 2023 that the release of at least 313 prisoners in Turkey was postponed by the Prison Administration and Observation Boards since 2021 when the regulation came into force. The HRA also stated that 88 of these prisoners 42 of whom are in serious condition were in the ill prisoners list and that an ill prisoner named Hayrettin Yıldız lost his life in prison.

It is learned that the appeal made on August 29, 2023 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

Gökhan Özbek, owner of the social media account named “23 Derece” was detained on the grounds of social media posts on August 28, 2023. Gökhan Özbek was released on August 29, 2023.

It is learned that 11 fans of Amedspor football team, who were detained after the Amedspor-Denizlispor match played on August 17, 2023 on the grounds that they did not stand up while the National Anthem was being sung, were released by the court on judicial control conditions on August 29, 2023.

It is learned that https://www.voaturkce.com website of Voice of America was banned to access by Ankara Penal court of Peace No. 9 on August 28, 2023 upon the request of the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) on the grounds of not obtaining a broadcasting license.
(08/171) Special Security Zones in Şırnak…
Şırnak Governorate made a declaration on August 28, 2023 and announced 14 regions (Cudi Mountain, Bestler Dereler, Kurt Mountain, Kureşin, Karaçalı T., Kel Mehmet D., Serin V., 2088 Rk T., Küçük Su Y., Gabar Mountain, Altın Mountain, İncebel Mountain, Oymakaya, Tanin Tanin) in central, Cizre, Silopi, Uludere, Güçlükonak, Beytüşşebap districts as special military security zones between August 29 and September 12, 2023.
