(04/199) Inmate Whose Release Was Adjourned by the Prison Administration and Observation Board…

According to news reports published on April 28, 2026, it was learned that the release of Erhan Kaya, an inmate held at the Burdur High-Security Prison who had completed his life sentence, was adjourned for six months by the Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK) on the grounds of “disciplinary penalties he had received.”

(04/200) Restrictions and Interventions Regarding May 1…

On April 27, 2026, during a police intervention targeting a memorial event organized by the May 1 Taksim Initiative on Kazancı Hill in Istanbul’s Beyoğlu district to honor those who lost their lives on May 1 in 1977, 1989, and 1996, one of the 46 people detained (Eylem Sıla Bayram, a member of Özgür Genç Kadın and a Trans Pride activist) was arrested by the magistrate’s court to which she was referred on April 28, 2026. While 42 people were released after giving statements at the police station, it was learned that 3 individuals remain in custody on the grounds that separate investigations are ongoing against them.

It was reported that on April 28, 2026, members of the Labor Party distributing May Day leaflets in front of a factory in Bursa were blocked by private security guards.

Nurullah Efe, Chairman of the People’s Liberation Party (HKP), who had been under house arrest since March 11, 2026, as part of an investigation, was detained on April 28, 2026, on charges of “insulting the President.”

(04/202) Trial in Istanbul Involving a Journalist and Former Party Official…

Journalist Barış Terkoğlu, who reported on allegations that a prosecutor faced pressure to close certain cases during his tenure at the Istanbul Courthouse under the headlines “How Prominent FETÖ Members Are Being Saved” and “Mr. Prosecutor, I’m Coming, add this article too,” continued the trial at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No. 2 on April 28, 2026. The indictment seeks the conviction of the journalist and former party official on charges of “repeatedly insulting a public official.” The court adjourned the hearing until November 24, 2026.

(04/203) Trial in Istanbul Involving the Mayor and Others…

The trial of 26 individuals, including Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler, four of whom are in custody, continued on April 28, 2026, at the Istanbul Anatolia Heavy Penal Court No. 17. The indictment seeks the conviction of the 26 individuals on charges of “bid-rigging,” “aggravated fraud,” and “forgery of official documents.” Following the defense arguments, the court ruled to continue Alaattin Köseler’s detention and adjourned the hearing to June 5, 2026.

Of the 26 individuals detained, 13 were arrested on March 4, 2025, and Alaattin Köseler had been removed from his post by the Ministry of the Interior. Alaattin Köseler was released at the first hearing of the case on September 5, 2025, but was re-arrested following an objection by the prosecution.

(04/204) Political Party Members on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of six members of the SOL Party, charged with hanging a banner reading “Secular Revolutionary Democratic Republic Against Sharia, Fascism, and Darkness,” began on April 28, 2026, at the Istanbul Küçükçekmece Criminal Court of First Instance No. 15. The court ruled to lift the house arrest as a judicial control measure for the six individuals and adjourned the hearing until October 27, 2026.
