It is learned from news coverage of April 29, 2025, that, Eser Çelik, a member of the Group Yorum, who was detained on April 25, 2025, at the exit of a metrobus station in Istanbul, was subjected to torture, other ill-treatment, and coercion to act as an agent while in custody.

According to a report released by the Human Rights Association (İHD) on April 28, 2025, there are at least 1,412 sick prisoners, 335 of whom are seriously ill, in prisons across Turkey.

It is learned from news coverage of April 29, 2025 that, it was learned that Müslüm Koyun, an inmate held at Ankara Sincan No. 2 F-Type Prison, began an indefinite hunger strike on April 28, 2025.
(04/203) Intervention by Special Security Units in Ankara…
On April 28, 2025, special security units intervened with physical violence against protesters at the “Protection and Empowerment of the Family” symposium held at Hacettepe University campus in Ankara. According to news reports, some students claimed to have been subjected to sexual harassment by special security units.
A student who spoke to the media described the physical violence and harassment they experienced: “An ÖGB officer I didn’t know touched my body, pulled my t-shirt and underwear, and squeezed my arms. I was beaten.”

On April 29, 2025, during house raids in Istanbul, 92 people were detained, including BEKSAV Co-Chair Ahmet Uçar, Polen Ecology Collective member Cemil Aksu, DEV Textile Union Istanbul Representative Okan Karaçam, members of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed Aydın Kılıçdere, Ali Haydar Saygılı, Hüseyin İldan, Cemre Nayır and Eylül Devrim Altepe.

Eser Çelik, a member of Grup Yorum, who was detained at a metrobus stop in Istanbul on April 25, 2025, was arrested by a magistrate’s court on April 29, 2025.
On April 29, 2025, it was learned that two members of Grup Yorum were detained during house raids in Istanbul. The names of those detained could not be learned.
(04/206) Party and Association Members and Leaders on Trial in Istanbul…
The trial of eight people, including Adnan Özcan, a member of the Central Executive Committee of the Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF), and Erol Tunç, the co-chair of the Sultangazi District Branch of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), began on April 28, 2025, at the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 13. The indictment seeks the punishment of the eight individuals for the crime of “being a member of an organization.” Following the defenses, the court decided to continue the detention of the eight individuals and postponed the hearing to May 12, 2025.
The eight individuals were arrested on January 24, 2025.

The final hearing in the case against Çınar Altan, former co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Izmir, was held on April 28, 2025, at the İzmir Heavy Penal Court No. 13. The court sentenced Çınar Altan to a total of 3 years and 4 months in prison for “aiding an organization” and “making propaganda for an organization.” The court postponed the announcement of the verdict regarding the sentence for “making propaganda for an organization.”
(04/208) Indictment Prepared Against Former Mayors and Municipal Officials in Istanbul…
An indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against 25 individuals, including former Sarıyer Mayor Şükrü Genç, former Şişli Mayor Hayri İnönü, and former municipal officials, was accepted by the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 13 on April 28, 2025.
The indictment seeks the punishment of the 25 individuals for the crime of “providing financial support to an organization.”
(04/209) Party Chairperson’s Phobic and Discriminatory Speech…
Fatih Erbakan, the General Chairman of the Yeniden Refah Party, made the following discriminatory and phobic statements during his speech at the party’s 3rd Ordinary Provincial Congress in Antalya: “We will never allow LGBT propaganda; we will immediately close down LGBT associations once we come to power.”
