(04/285) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned that 1 soldier (Hüsamettin Gökçe) died and 2 soldiers got wounded in a clash between HPG militants and Turkish Armed Forces units in Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on April 28, 2021.

It is learned that a village guard at a security point in Kozluk district of Batman who was injured after being hit by a car lost his life at hospital on April 28, 2021.

(04/285) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on April 28, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

(04/286) Preventions and Interventions Against 1 May International Labour Day Events…

The police intervened the members of 1 May Platform distributing leaflets in Mamak district of Ankara on April 28, 2021 and detained 6 people. Detained poeple are released after statement procedures on the same day.

(04/287) Police Prevention to Protest About Hunger Strikes in Prison…

The police prevented the press declaration of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Yenişehir district of Diyarbakır on April 28, 2021; which was held to draw attention to indefinite hunger strikes that started on November 27, 2020 in prisons to demand an end to isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan. It is learned that the police moved away the journalists recording the protest.

The police prevented the press declaration in Bağlar district of Diyarbakır for the same cause on April 28, 2021. The group had a sit-in protest upon prevention.

(04/288) Detained People in Hakkari…

On April 28, 2021, 6 people are detained in house raids in Çukurca district of Hakkari. 4 of them are released after statement procedures on the same day while 2 people are still under custody. The reason of detention is unknown.

(04/289) Gezi Case…

The trial of the case against Can Dündar, Mehmet Ali Alabora, Ayşe Pınar Alabora, Gökçe Tüylüoğlu, Handan Meltem Arıkan, Hanzade Hikmet Germiyanoğlu and İnanç Ekmekçi for Gezi Park protests in 2013, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 30 on April 28, 2021. The local court has decided to separate the case against these 7 people, while acquitting 9 other defendants on February 18, 2020. The court decided to consolidate the cases once again under the main Gezi case, since Penal Department No 3 of Istanbul Regional Court has reversed the acquittals.

The local court’s verdict was to acquit Osman Kavala, Mücella Yapıcı, Can Atalay, Tayfun Kahraman, Ali Hakan Altınay, Yiğit Aksakoğlu, Yiğit Ali Ekmekçi, Çiğdem Mater Utku and Mine Özerden; and to separate the case against Can Dündar, Mehmet Ali Alabora, Ayşe Pınar Alabora, Gökçe Tüylüoğlu, Handan Meltem Arıkan, Hanzade Hikmet Germiyanoğlu and İnanç Ekmekçi. However, the Penal Department No 3 of Istanbul Regional Court has reversed the acquittals and send the case back for a retrial on January 22, 2021.

(04/290) HDP Executives on Trial in Mersin…

The first trial of the case against HDP’s provincial co-chair Gülbahar Şöfer and Party Assembly member Barış Karabıyık is held at Mersin Heavy Penal Court No 2 on April 28, 2021. Gülbahar Şöfer and Barış Karabıyık were detained for having a “standing person” protest against detention of HDP members and executives.

The indictment demands sentence for 2 people on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The court lifted judicial control conditions for 2 people and adjourned the trial to September 14, 2021.

(04/291) People on Trial for Participating in a Protest in Izmir…

The trial of the case against 24 people, for participating in “Las Tesis” dance performance against male violence against women, is held at Izmir Penal Court of First Instance No 7 on April 28, 2021. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to September 15, 2021.

Following the protest on December 15, 2019, 9 women were detained; 15 women were called to make official statements through the investigation on December 17, 2019.

(04/292) The Case Against Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 28, 2021 that, Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation on the charges of ‘improperly undertaking public duty’ and ‘violation of workplace immunity’, against HDP Kocaeli MP Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu; for his justice watch at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey after being stripped of MP status.

(04/293) Administrative Fine for TV Channels…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 28, 2021 that the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTUK) issued KRT TV channel with administrative fine, for Republican People’s Party (CHP) group deputy Engin Altay’s expressions on the President, during a programme.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 28, 2021 that RTUK issued TELE 1 television channel with administrative fine, for some expressions on a programme.

(04/294) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against 7 people is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 24 on April 28, 2021.

The court sentenced the defendants to jail penalties from 6 years and 3 months to 10 years on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court sentenced 2 defendants to 3 years and 9 months each on the charge of ‘forgery of official documents’.

(04/295) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 341 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,728 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on April 28, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 45,198.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 39,398 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 4,751,026 as of April 28, 2021.

On April 29, 2021, Orhan Balcı, a health worker in Tekirdağ lost his life from Covid-19.
