(01/294) Person Died in Prison…

Mehmet Hanefi Bilgin, a prisoner in Bolu F Type Prison lost his life on January 30, 2022. It is claimed that Mehmet Hanefi Bilgin, who was in prison for 30 years and had to serve 5 months more before being released, died due to heart attack.

(01/295) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of January 28, 2022 that, the heating systems in wards in Konya Ereğli T Type Prison are not operated regularly and at an adequate level.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 29, 2022 that, in Ankara Sincan T Type Prison personal belongings of the prisoners were scattered around during ward searches and prisoners were subjected to verbal violence of the correction officers.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 29, 2022 that, in Istanbul Maltepe L Type Prison No 2 the wards are over capacity, the prices at the prison commissary are high and the clothes sent to prisoners by their families were not delivered.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 30, 2022 that, in Malatya Akçadağ T Type Prison, prisoners have to wait in open-door areas during ward searches although it is -8 degrees outside.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 30, 2022 that the wards in Bolu T Type Prison are over capacity.

(01/296) Hunger Strike in Prison…

It is learned that 11 prisoners (Sinan Durmaz, Onur Yılmaz, Abdullah Günay, Sabah Dayan, Ozan Alpkaya, Halis Dağhan, Sertaç Kılıçarslan, Kenan Yıldızbakan, Mahir Çakır, Şaban Sıdal, İbrahim Tikan) who were on hunger strike since November 28, 2021 to demand an end to right violations in Izmir Kırıklar F Type Prison No 2, ended their strike on January 28, 2022.

(01/297) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on January 28, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

(01/298) Police Intervention to Workers’ Protest in Kocaeli…

The police intervened the workers not leaving the factory to protest being sacked for being union member and to demand reinstation in Gebze district of Kocaeli on January 31, 2022. The police detained 200 people including DGD-Sen union chair Neslihan Acar and organising secretary Kemal Yılmaz. The police used pepper spray to intervene who tried to stop the detention vehicles. It is learned that 2 people were injured and the detainees were released after statement procedures on the same day.

The police intervened the press declaration of a group, leaving a coffin in front of the Ministry of Justice in Ankara to draw attention to ill prisoners on January 29, 2022 and detained 3 people (Ömer Akyel, Bülent Özgül and Uğur Varol). Detained people are released on judicial control conditions by the court on the same day.

The police intervened the press declaration of Şişli Municipality workers in front of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) on January 28, 2022 and forced people away from the building by using physical violence.

On January 30, 2022, a shopkeeper (E. S.) who hung a banner in front of his shop, to protest the raise in electricity prices in Adıyaman is detained by the police.

(01/302) Detained DBP Executive in Diyarbakır…

Seval Gülmez, Diyarbakır provincial co-chair of the Democratic Regions party (DBP) is detained by the police raiding her house on January 29, 2022. Seval Gülmez is released on January 31, 2022 as she tested positive for Covid-19.

(01/303) Detained People in Diyarbakır…

On January 28, 2022, 15 people including members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assembly are detained in house raids in 4 cities through a Diyarbakır based investigation. Detained people are: Bergin Acar, Yakut Aykut, Barış Çelebi, Nesibe Güzel, Ahmet Bayazıt, Vedat Özer, Beritan Dağ, Vedat Güler, Yusuf Genç, Dilan Kartal, Mahmut Tutmaz, Mahmut Kınay, Serhat Kınay, Can Köklü and Botan Turmaz.

On January 29, 2022, 4 people are detained in house raids in Cizre district of Şırnak. The reason of detention is unknown.

(01/305) Association Members on Trial in Muğla…

The final trial of the case against 9 people, for their activities in Şerzan Kurt Youth Association is held at Muğla Heavy Penal Court No 2 on January 28, 2022.

The court sentenced 7 people (Berna Çelebi, Zafer Altürk, Ömer Filitoğlu, Dilek Zengin, İsmail Polat, Yasemin Pelit and İbrahim Orhan) to 6 years and 3 months each on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court suspended the case for 1 defendant and rejected the case for 1 defendant.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 28, 2022 that, the stand of Kurdish Language Platform in Batman was not allowed by the governorate’s Office on the grounds of precautions for Covid-19 pandemic.

(01/307) Ban of Events in Van…

Van Governorate made a declaration on January 28, 2022 and announced that, all open-door meetings and demonstrations are banned for 15 days as of January 29, 2022. It is also announced that press declarations, sit-in protests, opening stands and tents, collecting petitions, distributing leaflets and so on will be subjected to the local authority’s permission. All events are banned in Van for 1909 days since November 21, 2016.

The Presidential Circular on Media and Publications No 2022/1 is published on the Official Gazette on January 29, 2022. The circular states that “The steps to eliminate the destructive effects of television programs that contain elements contrary to basic values of society and that especially appear as adaptations of foreign programs will be taken urgently”.

It is learned that Kurdish Xwebûn newspaper’s website www.xwebun.org, Alınteri newspaper’s website www.alinteri2.com, Yeni Yaşam newspaper’s website www.yeniyasam2.com, Özgür Gelecek magazine’s website www.orzurgelecek30.net, Mücadele Birliği magazine’s website www.mucadelebirligi.com, Özgür Gençlik magazine’s website www.ozgurgenclik.net, Yeni Demokrasi newspaper’s website www.yenidemokrasi20.net, Kızıl Bayrak magazine’s website www.kizilbayrak60.net, Umut newspaper’s website www.umutgazetesi38.org are banned to access on the grounds of “protection of national security and public order” by the Information Technologies and Communications Authority on January 28, 2022.

It is learned that the news reports about the Republican People’s Party (CHP) group deputy Engin Özkoç’s declarations on the President, published on https://www.sozcu.com.tr, https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://gercekgazetesi.net websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No 6 on January 28, 2022.

It is learned that the news reports about CHP group deputy Engin Özkoç’s declarations on the President’s son, published on https://www.milligazete.com.tr, https://tele1.com.tr, https://www.dunya.com websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No 6 on January 28, 2022.

(01/310) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On January 28, 2022, 18 people are detained in operations covering 7 cities through an Istanbul based investigation.

(01/311) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 210 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 93,586 as of January 28, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared that 174 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 94,783 as of January 29, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared that 189 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 88,145 as of January 30, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 87,234 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 11,526,621 as of January 30, 2022.

It is learned that 3 health workers (doctor Zehra Öztürk in Bursa, dentist Rahmi Köksal in Istanbul and Professor Ali Kurt in Erzurum) died due to Covid-19 on January 28, 2022.
