The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Ebubekir Sel) died and 2 soldiers got wounded in a crash of a military vehicle in Yüksekova district of Hakkari on October 27, 2021.
(10/284) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of October 27, 2021 that, Veysi Bayat, a prisoner in Van High Security Prison was subjected to physical violence of the correction officers.
It is learned from the news coverage of October 27, 2021 that, in Istanbul Silivri Prison, the heating in wards were not working, prisoners are not given hot water and cold tap water is often cut. It is also stated in the news reports that a prisoner coming back from lawyer meeting was forced to take off and keep his shoes in hand during body search and was subjected to physical violence for rejecting it.
It is learned from the news coverage of October 28, 2021 that, Şaban Kaygusuz, a prisoner with one hand and one leg, who was transferred from Diyarbakır D Type Prison to Kayseri Bünyan T Type Prison No 1 under coercion, was subjected to physical violence of the correction officers saying “why did not you stand up?” during roll-calls.
(10/285) Detained People in Diyarbakır…
On October 15, 2021, 8 people have been detained in Istanbul through a Diyarbakır based investigation. 6 of them (Ümit Mercan, Necat Alphan, Abdullah Aydemir, Mehmet Özer Dündar, Bülent Aslan and Mehmet Çiftçi) are arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on October 27, 2021. 2 people (İsmet Demirsaban and Bilal İyisoylu) are released.
(10/286) Kobanê Case…
The trial of the case against 108 members and executives of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) including former co-chairs, including 21 arrestees, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 22 between October 18 and 27, 2021.
The politicians kept in Silivri Prison attended the trial while those kept in other prisons joined the trial via sound and vision system.
The court stated that the European Court of Human Rights ruling on HDP’s former co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş has no relation with this case. The court decided to send a writ to the Forensic Medicine Institution to give a medical report on Aysel Tuğluk’s health condition. The court decided to continue detention of 21 people and adjourned the trial to November 8, 2021.
The court has released 4 people (former Kars co-mayor Ayhan Bilgen who was replaced by a trustee, HDP’s former central executive board members Berfin Özgü Köse, Can Memiş and Cihan Erdal) at the trial held on June 15, 2021; and released 4 people (Zeki Çelik and former parliamentary members İbrahim Binici, Emine Beyza Üstün, Emine Ayna) on June 25, 2021.

The first trial of the case against 97 people who were detained for protesting the rector appointed to Boğaziçi University by the President on February 1, 2021; is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 32 on October 26 and 27, 2021.
The court decided to summon 13 defendants who were not present at the trial and adjourned the trial to January 10, 2022.

It is learned that the news reports about journalists Timur Soykan’s article on Turkey Youth Foundation, published on https://www.birgun.net/, https://halktv.com.tr, https://kronos34.news websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No 7 on October 25, 2021.
It is learned that the news reports about a relative of Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü, a sect leader, published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://www.gercekgundem.com, https://artigercek.com websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by the Access Providers Association on October 22, 2021.

It is learned from the news coverage of October 27, 2021 that the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTUK) issued Halk TV channel with administrative fine for programmes on TÜGVA and TELE1 channel for news reports on Presidential High Advisory Board deputy chair and former parliamentary speaker İsmail Kahraman.

The Ministry of Health declared that 210 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 29,896 as of October 27, 2021.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 70,195 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 7,897,530 as of October 27, 2021.
It is learned that 2 health workers (dentist Orhan Yurtçu in Izmir and security staff Bekir Koç in Ankara) lost their lives due to Covid-19 on October 27, 2021.
