(11/229) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 25, 2023, that 3 militants died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in the Zap area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (IKBY) on November 20, 2023.

(11/230) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded to…

It is learned that the appeal made on November 28, 2023, to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded to.

(11/231) Association and Political Party Members and Executives Detained in Izmir…

On November 28, 2023, 5 people including co-chair of Aegean Association for Assistance to Families of Prisoners and Detainees (EGE-TUHAYDER), co-chair of Avesta Language and Culture Research Association (Avesta) and provincial executive of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) were detained in house raids in Izmir. The reason for the detention could not be learned. It was also learned that there is a 24 hour restriction on lawyer visits and a confidentiality order on the file. Names of detained people are as follows: EGE-TUHAYDER Co-Chair Nilay Güleser, Avesta Language and Culture Research Association (Avesta) Co-Chair Ali Yalçınkaya, Derya Kandemir, HDP provincial executive Neriman Birlikler and Dilaver Keklik.

On November 28, 2023, 19 people were detained in house raids in the Hizan and Tatvan districts of Bitlis. The names of the detainees and the reason for detention could not be learned.

(11/233) Lawyer, Party Member and Others Detained in Istanbul…

3 of 42 people, including lawyer Yusuf Görücü from Lawyers’ Association for Freedom (ÖHD) and members of Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (HEDEP) and HDP Youth Assembly, who were detained through two separate investigations in Istanbul on November 24, 2023, were arrested by the court on November 27, 2023, on the charges of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’ and ‘financing an illegal organization’. 39 people were released under judicial control condition. The names of the arrested people are Ömer Görünmek, Azad Barış and Şehmus Barış.

(11/234) HEDEP Members and Others Detained in Diyarbakır…

9 people, including members of HEDEP Youth Assembly, who were detained in the Silvan district of Diyarbakır on November 27, 2023, were released on the same day after statement procedures at the police.

(11/235) People Detained in Mardin…

17 people who were detained on November 27, 2023, in the Derik and Kızıltepe districts of Mardin on the grounds of making propaganda for an illegal organization in social media posts were released after statement procedures at the police on November 28, 2023.

(11/236) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The final hearing of the case against Birgün newspaper reporter İsmail Arı, upon the complaint of the Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank about the news article titled “Varank’s ‘cousin’ snatched the land with sea view!” published in the newspaper on November 18, 2022, was held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on November 28, 2023. The court acquitted İsmail Arı.

(11/237) Police Officer on Trial in Batman…

The retrial of the case against 1 police officer in connection with the physical violence against lawyer Orhan Alphan by police officers in Batman Courthouse on April 14, 2022, continued on November 27, 2023. The court accepted the request of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations, Batman, Diyarbakır, Siirt, and Mardin Bar Associations to join the case. The court adjourned the hearing to December 15, 2023.

(11/238) Association Buildings Raided by the Police in Izmir…

On November 28, 2023, the police raided and searched the buildings of EGE-TUHAYDER and Jin Art Huner (JINART) associations in Izmir. After the search at JINART, it is reported that 55 books and 16 music cassettes were seized.

(11/239) Proceedings Prepared Against MPs…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 27, 2023, that 11 proceedings demanding the lifting of impunity of 9 parliamentary members were sent to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

(11/240) People Detained and Arrested in Relation with the Coup Attempt…

On November 28, 2023, 6 people were detained in operations conducted in 4 provinces through an Istanbul-based investigation; 1 person was detained in Kocaeli.
