(11/331) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 27, 2018 that 1 special task force police officer and 1 HPG militant died in a clash which took place after a police raid to a house in Hilal neighbourhood in central district of Batman.

(11/332) Person Subjected to Police Violence in Diyarbakır…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 27, 2018 that Fikri Ay (53), who was detained after his house in Diyarbakır was raided, was subjected to physical and verbal violence of the police during the home search. It is stated in the news reports that the police insulted other individuals at home too. İt is learned that Fikri Ay was taken to Diyarbakır Police Headquarters however the reason for detention is unknown.

(11/333) Rejection to Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan…

It is learned that the appeal made on November 27, 2018 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was rejected the same day on the grounds of limitations for prisoners in accordance with the law on the execution of sentences and security measures (law no 5275). With the last rejection, it was the 767th time that appeals for visiting Öcalan have been rejected so far. Abdullah Öcalan has met his lawyers on July 27, 2011 for the last time.

(11/334) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 749 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on November 27, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on November 27, 2018, 2 people (Acun Karadağ and Mahmut Konuk) and at 18.00 2 people (Gülnaz Bozkurt, Nazan Bozkurt) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on November 27, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(11/335) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Istanbul…

Türkan Albayrak, who was dismissed from her job at Sarıyer district Health Department, on the grounds of ‘personnel security investigation’ and ‘archive search’, on August 3, 2018; made a press declaration to regain her job on November 27, 2018 and attempted for a sit-in protest in front of Health Department. The police intervened the sit-in and detained Türkan Albayrak. It is learned that Türkan Albayrak was released the same day. It is the 52nd time of detention of Türkan Albayrak.

(11/336) Detained Human Rights Defender, and Members of HDP and DBP in Malatya…

On November 27, 2018, 7 people including Human Rights Association (IHD) Malatya branch co-chair Gönül Öztürkoğlu and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) provincial co-chair Nermin Tuncel are detained in house raids in Malatya. The names of detainees are: Özcan Ağdaş, former provincial co-chair of People’s Democratic Party (HDP); Nermin Tuncel, provincial co-chair of DBP; Gönül Öztürkoğlu, Malatya branch co-chair of IHD; Ahmet Aksu, Battalgazi district co-chair; Aziz Doğan, Yeşilyurt district co-chair; former provincial executive Hasan Karvar and member Ahmet Turan Sertkaya from HDP.

On November 27, 2018, 5 people including Celal Kurgay, Kızıltepe district executive of HDP, are detained in house raids in Kızıltepe district of Mardin. The names of detainees known so far are: Celal Kurgay, Hasan Duran, Vahap Dinler, Davut Bozan.

(11/338) Members of HDP and DBP are Detained in Bingöl…

On November 27, 2018, 5 members of HDP and DBP are detained in house raids in Bingöl. The names of detainees are: Niyazi Azak, İmdat Morsümbül, Erdal Sarı, Murat Yılmaz, Esra Gökmen.

(11/340) Co-Chair of Language Culture and Art Research Association Detained in Van…

Naim Özden, co-chair of Language Culture and Art Research Association (DİSA-DER); and lecturers Şevket Acar, Dilber Akın, Mizgin Deniz, Gülsüm Bilge, Ferhan Yeşil and Celal Soğuk who were detained in house raids in Van on November 24, 2018 are referred to the court on November 27, 2018. The court arrested 5 people (Ferhan Yeşil, Şevket Acar, Naim Özden, Celal Soğuk and Mizgin Deniz) for ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and released 2 people (Gülsüm Bilge and Dilber Akın) on judicial control conditions.

(11/341) HDP Members Detained in Izmir…

15 of 23 people, including Mahfuz Güleryüz (HDP central executive board member), Gülay Gün Bilici (HDP Party Assembly member) and Mustafa Aydın (HDP Menemen district executive) who were detained in house raids in Izmir on November 26, 2018; are released on judicial control conditions by the court on November 27, 2018. It is learned that 8 people are still under custody.

(11/342) Journalists Detained in Izmir, Istanbul, Adana and Van…

7 journalists (Şükran Erdem, Naci Erdem, Suat Karagöz, Ferhat Duman, Murat Karakaş, Mizgin Fendik, Özkan Akyürek) who were detained through a Van based investigation, in house raids in Izmir, Istanbul, Adana and Van on November 24, 2018 are released by the court on judicial control conditions on November 27, 2018.

(11/343) Detained Members of SMF in Istanbul…

6 of 11 members of Socialist Assemblies Federation (SMF) who were detained in house raids in Istanbul on November 25, 2018 are arrested by the court on November 27, 2018. The names of arrested people are: Süleyman Şahin, Özlem Halisdemir, İsa Yalçın, Canan Kaplan, Uğur Ayata and Meriç Yapışkan.

(11/344) People Detained in Şırnak…

On November 27, 2018, 50 people (8 in central, 18 in Cizre district, 14 in Silopi district, 9 in İdil district and 1 person in Uludere district) are detained in house raids in Şırnak, on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. The names of detainees are unknown.

(11/345) Former Co-Chair of HDP on Trial…

The case against Selahattin Demirtaş, former co-chair of HDP, on the charge of ‘insulting Ahmet Davutoğlu’, the Prime Minister back then, in a speech he made, is held on November 27, 2018 on Mersin Penal Court of First Instance No 14. The court sentenced the trial to April 4, 2019.

(11/346) Co-Mayors on Trial…

The case against 24 members and executives of HDP and DBP people, including Erciş municipality co-mayors Diba Keskin and Abdurrahman Çağan, for participating in the declaration of “self-governance” held on October 12, 2015, is held on Erciş Heavy Penal Court No 1 is held on November 27, 2018. After defence hearings the court rejected demand of release and adjourned the trial to February 18, 2019.

24 people including Diba Keskin and Abdurrahman Çağan were detained on October 14, 2015 and were arrested by the court afterwards.

(11/347) HDK Co-Spokesperson on Trial… 

The final trial of the case against Professor Onur Hamzaoğlu, co-spokesperson of People’s Democratic Congress (HDK), for a speech he made in Adana is held on November 27, 2018 on Adana Penal Court of First Instance No 25. After defence hearings the court sentenced Onur Hamzaoğlu to 5 months for ‘publicly degrading the state bodies and the Grand National Assembly’ and postponed the sentence.

(11/348) Lawyers on Trial in Antep…

The final trial of the case against 14 lawyers (Ergin Sözen, Bülent Öztürk, Dilovan Bozkuş, Fatma Altunbaş, Gamze Çöçelli, Fırat Kayacan, Deniz Kurtoğlu, Hasan Kuyaş, İnan Öztürk, Arif Şahin, Nazlı Bildirici, Ömer Kılıç, Saime Erdoğan and Turgut Işıklı) from Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD) which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, is held on November 27, 2018 on Antep Heavy Penal Court No 10. After defence hearings the court acquitted 14 lawyers on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and sentenced Bülent Öztürk to 1 year and 3 months for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and postponed the sentence.

(11/349) Journalist and Others on Trial in Batman…

The case against Şerife Oruç, reporter of Dicle News Agency which was closed down by a state of emergency, on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, is held on November 27, 2018 on Batman Heavy Penal Court No 2. After defence and witness hearings the court adjourned the trial to February 26, 2019.

Şerife Oruç was arrested on July 5, 2016 and was released on judicial control conditions on July 9, 2018.

(11/350) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On November 27, 2018, 64 people including military members on active duty are detained in operations covering 19 cities through an Ankara based investigation on Turkish Air Force personnel; and 26 people are detained in operations covering 10 cities through an Adana based investigation.

The final trial of the case against Alaattin Tabak, former member of National Intelligence Agency (MIT) is held on November 27, 2018 on Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 22. The court sentenced Alaattin Tabak to 9 years and 9 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

(11/352) Curfew in Lice…

Diyarbakır Governorate made a declaration on November 27, 2018 and lifted the curfew in 4 villages and 7 hamlets of Lice district, which was announced on November 26, 2018. The curfew is lifted in following villages and hamlets: Bayırlı, Baharlar, Yaprakköy and Yünlüce villages; Konuklu, Yeşilburç, Mehmedil, Sağlık, Gönen, Hamzabey and Kumumirza hamlets.
