The police intervened the group marching towards General Directorate of Tea Enterprises to protest quota practice for fresh tea, and detained 32 people, in Hopa district of Artvin on May 27, 2021. It is learned that 2 people were injured in the intervention. Detained people are released on the same day.

The gendarmerie and village guards fired up into the air to intervene the group protesting the stone pit project in Yurtbaşı neighbourhood of Gürpınar district of Van on May 27, 2021. It is learned that 4 people who were detained are released on the same day.

It is learned that the appeal made on May 27, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.
(05/209) Detained Members and Executives of Political Parties and Associations in Adana…
20 people including members and executives of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and Association of Families of Prisoners (TUAYDER) were detained in operations covering 3 cities through an Adana based investigation on May 23, 2021. 4 of them (İlyas Arzu, Jiyan Savcı, Cigergun Güven, Mehmet Şirin Tunç) are arrested by the court and 2 people are released on judicial control conditions on May 27, 2021. 1 person were released earlier, following the statement procedures at the police. It is reported that 13 people are still under custody.

The first trial of the case against journalist Roza Metina is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5 on May 27, 2021.
The indictment demands sentence for Roza Metina on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.
After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to September 14, 2021.
(05/211) Journalist on Trial in Erzurum…
The first trial of the case against Dindar Karataş, a reporter of Mezopotamya News Agency, is held at Erzurum Heavy Penal Court No 3 on May 27, 2021.
The indictment demands sentence for Dindar Karataş on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.
The court adjourned the trial to September 7, 2021.
Dindar Karataş was detained on November 24, 2020 and was arrested by the court on November 26, 2020. He was released from prison by the court at the first trial held on February 9, 2021.
(05/212) Suruç Massacre Case…
The trial of the case on Urfa Heavy Penal Court No 5, for the massacre in Suruç where 33 people died on July 20, 2015, is held on January 9, 2021.
Yakup Şahin, the only arrestee defendant, joined the trial from Urfa T Type Prison via sound and vision system. The prosecutor declared legal opinion and demanded heavy life imprisonment for 34 times for Yakup Şahin. The court adjourned the trial to September 29, 2021.
(05/213) Police Officer on Trial in Diyarbakır…
Şahin Öner lost his life after being hit by an armoured police vehicle on February 10, 2013 in Diyarbakır, during protests about anniversary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s being taken to Turkey. The trial of the case against police officer S. K., driver of the armoured vehicle, on the charge of intentional killing, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 1 on May 27, 2021.
It is learned that the expert report of Department of Traffic of Istanbul Technical University was submitted to the case file. The court rejected to arrest the defendant police officer and adjourned the trial to June 24, 2021.
(05/214) Ali El Hemdan Case…
The trial of the case against police officer F. K. for death of Syrian citizen Ali El Hemdan (19) is held at Adana Heavy Penal Court No 9 on May 27, 2021. Ali El Hemdan was killed by police gunshot in Seyhan district of Adana on April 27, 2020.
The indictment demands sentence for police officer F. K. on the charge of ‘intentional killing’.
Police officer F. K. joined the trial via sound and vision system and made his defence. The court rejected the intervention demand of the lawyers from Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD). The court decided to continue detention of F. K. and adjourned the trial to September 9, 2021.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 27, 2021 that, 10 proceedings demanding lift of impunity of 10 parliamentary members are submitted to Grand National Assembly.

On May 27, 2021, 7 people are detained in Edirne in an alleged attempt to illegally flee abroad; and 1 person is detained in Ankara.

The final trial of the case against Ömer Şanlı is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 24 on May 27, 2021. The court sentenced the defendant to heavy life imprisonment on the charge of ‘violating the Constitution’.
(05/218) Covid-19 Pandemic…
The Ministry of Health declared that 166 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 681 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on May 27, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 8,738.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 46,787 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 5,121,123 as of May 27, 2021.
