It is learned from the news coverage of June 27, 2022 that, Zülküf Kaya, a prisoner in Ağrı Patnos L Type Prison, was subjected to physical violence of the correction officers.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 27, 2022 that, Furkan Kara, a prisoner in Samsun Prison was not referred to a hospital for 7 months.

(06/314) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on June 28, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

(06/315) Police Intervention to a Protest in Osmaniye…

The police intervened the sit-in protest of the members of the Furkan Foundation, in front of the building where a house which was sealed as it was reported that the Qur’an was read there is located in Osmaniye; and detained 30 people using physical violence on June 27, 2022.

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 27, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

The police intervened the press declaration made in front of the German Consulate in Istanbul on June 27, 2022 regarding the rights violations of Özgül Emre, who was held in prison in Germany, and detained 1 person (Erkan Munar).

(06/318) Interventions and Bans on Pride Month Events…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 27, 2022 that during the police intervention against the 30th Pride March held in Istanbul on June 26, 2022, a person named E. S. A. had his arm removed and was kept in handcuffs behind their back for 20 minutes. E. S. A. stated the following in their statement to the press: “They repeatedly three times put me on the ground handcuffs behind my back. The third time, my arm was removed (…) they pushed me into the car (…) I waited for 20 minutes with my removed arm and handcuffed behind my back. I replaced my arm on my own. When they removed the handcuffs, I could not twist my arm, and said I wanted the medical team and them to call an ambulance and they said no (…) Other than that, my arms are already full of marks of handcuffs and nail scratches. I also received a report of violence for this. I will also receive a second report of violence for my shoulder.”

Tevgera Jînen Azad (Free Women’s Movement – TJA) Activists Ayşegül Ayaz and Leyla Aslan are detained by the police at a control point as they were going back to Van after participating in a press declaration on June 27, 2022. The reason for detention is unknown.

Musician Veysi Beltekin is detained by the police on the grounds of making propaganda for an illegal organisation by singing Kurdish songs at a wedding in Efeler district of Aydın on June 26, 2022. Veysi Belketin is released by the court on judicial control conditions on June 27, 2022.

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Istanbul MP Hüda Kaya’s son, Muhammed Cihad Cemre, who was detained by the police raiding his house in Bayramiç of Çanakkale on June 25, 2022, is released by the court on judicial control conditions on June 27, 2022.

(06/322) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against Mezopotamya News Agency editor Sedat Yılmaz and against Yeni Yaşam newspaper, upon the complaint of Selçuk Bayraktar demanding a compensation of 150,000 Turkish Liras for a news report about armed aerial vehicles, is held at Bakırköy Civil Court of First Instance No. 14 on June 27, 2022. The court rejected the claim for compensation.

(06/323) Former MP on Trial…

The trial of the case against HDP’s former Diyarbakır MP Çağlar Demirel, on the grounds of insulting the President is held at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 5 on June 28, 2022. Çağlar Demirel joined the trial and made defence. The court adjourned the trial to December 20, 2022.

The final trial of the case against a person named Menci Orman, for wearing yellow, red and green scarf in the Newroz celebration in Dörtyol district of Hatay, is held at Hatay Heavy Penal Court No 3 on June 28, 2022. The court sentenced Menci Orman to 10 months on the charge of “making propaganda for an illegal organisation” and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

(06/325) People on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 13 people for a protest held in front of Istanbul Bakırköy Women’s Prison on May 10, 2019; is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 23 on June 28, 2022.

The court decided to send the case file to the prosecutor for legal opinion and adjourned the trial to October 25, 2022.

(06/326) Retired Navy Officers on Trial for Their Statements…

The trial of the case against 103 retired Turkish Navy officers on the grounds of publishing a joint statement on the Montreux Straits Convention is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 20 on June 27, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for 103 people on the charge of “contracting to commit a crime against the security of the state or the constitutional order”. The court decided to send the case file to the prosecutor’s office for legal opinion and adjourned the trial to September 19, 2022.

It is learned that the contents about journalist Çiğdem Toker’s article titled “They secretly repeated the same tender twice” published on https://www.sozcu.com.tr, https://halktv.com.tr, https://sendika.org  websites are banned to access on the grounds of “violation of personal rights” by Istanbul Küçükçekmece Penal Court of Peace No. 1 on June 27, 2022.

(06/328) Police Raid to Cultural Center in Diyarbakır…

It is learned that Dicle Cultural and Arts Center is raided by the police through an Adana based investigation on June 27, 2022 and that computers, digital material, some books and paintings were seized after the police search.

(06/329) Limitation on Books…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 24, 2022, the Board of Protection of Minors from Harmful Publications of the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services decided that 7 books in the “Crispy Crispy Philosophy” series published by the Günışığı Publishing to be subject to the limitations in Article 4 of Law No. 1117 on the grounds that “they are of a nature to have a harmful effect on the spirituality of those under the age of 18”. According to these limitations, it will be mandatory to print the “Harmful to minors” stamp or sign on the front covers of the books in question, and the books will not be sold in open exhibitions; advertisements or announcements cannot be made in any media and they will not be allowed into schools and similar places.

It is learned that 6 people are detained in Eskişehir, 6 people are detained in Manisa and 4 people are detained in Çorum on June 28, 2022.

(06/331) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared on June 27, 2022 that 19 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the number of Covid-19 cases is 7,653 between June 13 and 19, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 99,015 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 15,096,696 as of June 19, 2022.
