(07/199) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Cüneyt Taşyürek) died in an attack during the Claw-Lock military operation of the Turkish Armed Forces in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on July 27, 2022.

(07/200) Journalists Subjected to Physical Attack in Adana…

It is learned that journalists Vedat Örüç and Elif Kurttaş were retained by the owners and employees of two recycling factories in Adana Recycling Industrialists Site, where they went to report on imported waste materials on July 27, 2022, and were subjected to verbal and physical violence.

Vedat Örüç stated the following: “At Adana Recycling Industrialists Site, where I came with my journalist friend Elif Kurttaş to do research on imported waste, we were detained, our equipment was confiscated, verbally abused, insulted and battered by the bosses and employees of two companies (Akbulut Recycling and Akgul Recycling). We are fine now. After receiving the assault report from the hospital, we will file a criminal complaint against the companies.”

It is learned from the news coverage of July 28, 2022 that, a person whose name is not learned, was subjected to verbal and physical violence of the police asking ID card on street in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul. Istanbul Security Directorate made a declaration and stated the following: “During the inspections for the prevention of drug addiction in the Tarlabaşı neighbourhood of Beyoğlu district, it was determined that unacceptable scenes occurred after a person’s negative attitude and verbal resistance towards our staff in order to prevent the inspection. Our fight against drugs will continue without compromise. However, it is our basic principle not to harm it while fighting crime and criminals. On behalf of our organization, we regret the incident. An investigation and investigation has been initiated against the personnel in charge.”

It is learned from the news coverage of July 28, 2022, that a prisoner named Ali Ataç, who was kept in a solitary cell in Metris Prison, was taken to hospital for allegedly committing suicide on June 26, 2022 and was released from prison by the court on June 29, 2022. It is stated in the news reports that Ali Ataç was released after his brain death and his family was not informed immediately.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 28, 2022 that, the food given to prisoners in Ankara Sincan Women’s Prison was inadequate, the prices at the prison commissary were high and all the products needed by the prisoners were not available.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 28, 2022 that, journalist İbrahim Karakaş, in Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison, was not given by the prison administration the magazine “Journalists Behind Closed Doors” published by the Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG), on the grounds that “the association in question was not included in the list of associations working in the public interest”.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 28, 2022 that, prisoners in Giresun Espiye L Type Prison were forced to mouth search during hospital transfers and those who reject it were not taken to hospital.

It is learned that the appeal made on July 28, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

(07/206) Gendarmerie Intervention to a Protest in Ordu…

The gendarmerie intervened in the protest against the transfer of the only water source of Sefaköy, in the Fatsa district of Ordu, to a private enterprise, detained 11 people by using physical violence on July 27, 2022. Detained people are released the same day. It is learned that the gendarmerie said to a person who was recording the intervention with a mobile phone, “Don’t shoot videos that I will use force (…) Freedom of the press is not available at the moment (…) Do not take video, we will show you the law below.”

The police intervened the press declaration of Şişli Municipality workers in front of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) in Ankara on July 27, 2022 and forced people away from the building by using physical violence.

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on July 27, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(07/209) Detained HDP Members in Manisa…

It is learned that 4 people including 3 members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) are detained on the grounds of social media posts, in house raids in Manisa on July 27, 2022. Detained people are released the same day.

(07/210) Detained ESP Executive in Istanbul…

The Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Istanbul provincial executive Selvinaz Göçmez who was detained on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ on July 26, 2022 is released on July 27, 2022.

(07/211) Detained District Council Members and HDP Executives in Mersin…

It is learned that 21 people including 4 members (Nevzat Baran, Ali Tanrıverdi, Nuriye Aslan and Mehmet Bitkin) of Akdeniz District Council and HDP provincial co-chair Bedriye Kuş, are detained on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, in house raids in Mersin on July 28, 2022.

It is learned that 6 people are detained on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ in house raids in Antalya on July 28, 2022.

(07/213) Curfew in Nusaybin…

Mardin Governorate’s Office made a declaration on July 28, 2022 and announced curfew in 1 rural neighbourhood (Günyurdu) in Nusaybin district as of 05.00 on July 28, 2022 until a further notice.

(07/214) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

It is learned that 2 people are detained in Edirne in an alleged attempt to illegally flee abroad on July 27, 2022.
