(07/206) Operations and Attacks…
The Ministry of Defence declared that 2 soldiers (Ali Rıza Özcücük, Sergen Güçlüer) died and 1 soldier got wounded in a clash during military operations in Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on July 26, 2021.
(07/207) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of July 27, 2021 that, Bekir Kuduk, a prisoner who has been transferred from Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison to Kayseri Bünyan T Type Prison, was subjected to physical violence of the correction officers for rejecting in-mouth and strip search at the entrance of prison. It is also stated in the news reports that Bekir Kuduk was also subjected to physical violence of the gendarmerie during transfer.
It is learned from the news coverage of July 27, 2021 that, Jiyan Ay, a political prisoner kept in a solitary cell in Kayseri Bünyan Women’s Prison was subjected to threats and insults of other prisoners.
(07/208) Hunger Strike in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of July 27, 2021 that, Kurbani Özcan, a prisoner in Diyarbakır T Type Prison No 3 is on hunger strike since July 12, 2021, demanding an end to torture and ill-treatment. It is also stated in the news reports that Kurbani Özcan was being kept in a solitary cell.
Kurbani Özcan’s mother Gülan Ateş states the following: “The correction officers constantly beat my son and psychologically oppresses him. They have broken his fingers previously and the correction officers are saying ‘you will leave here as a dead person’ to threaten him.” Following the allegations of torture and ill-treatment, the Human Rights Association (IHD), the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (OHD), Diyarbakır Bar Association and the Civil Society in the Penal System Association (CISST) have visited the prison on May 10, 2021 however the prison administration did not allow the committee to meet Kurbani Özcan.
(07/209) Detained DBP Executive and Other Person in Adıyaman…
On July 27, 2021, Yusuf Bağırcı, former provincial executive of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and former teacher Erdal Çıtrık who has been dismissed from his job by a state of emergency decree, are detained in house raids in Adana. The reason of detention is unknown.
(07/210) Covid-19 Pandemic…
The Ministry of Health declared that 51 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 19,761 as of July 27, 2021.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 51,048 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 5,638,178 as of July 27, 2021.
