(04/218) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 28, 2023 that, 2 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in the rural areas of Van on April 25, 2023.

(04/219) May 14, 2023 General Elections…

It is learned that 24 people including 3 lawyers of 128 people including journalists, political party executives, lawyers and artists who were detained in house raids in 21 cities through a Diyarbakır based investigation on April 25, 2023, are arrested by the court on April 28, 2023. 4 journalists (Mezopotamya News Agency editor Abdurrahman Gök and reporter Mehmet Şah Oruç, Jinnews reporter Beritan Canözer, and Remzi Akkaya) were arrested on April 27, 2023. The number of arrestees raised to 28 as of April 28, 2023. 31 people are released on judicial control conditions.  The names of arrested people learned so far are: lawyers Serhat Hezer, Burhan Arta and Özüm Vurgun; Roni Atik, Kadir Şenci, Berfin Can, Muhsin Acar, Osman Demir, Rumet Çetin, Mehdi Kaya, Cotkar Amara Yürek, Hamza Cihangir, Hasret Yelboğa, Suat Arda Işık, Şahin Biçimli, Hakim Kaya, Mikail Barut, Tacettin Araz, Nurullah Özgün, Abdulbahri Mavlay, Ferit Aktepe and Şervan Doğan.

Journalist Kadir Bayram was detained in Adıyaman on April 27, 2023 through the same investigation. It is learned that Kadir Bayram will be taken to Diyarbakır.

It is learned that 1 person (Halim Aslan) was detained in Diyarbakır on April 27, 2023 through the same investigation.

The police intervened in the groups leaving the area after the Greens and Left Future Party (YSP) rally in Muş on April 27, 2023. The number of people detained by the police could not be learned.

It is learned that an attack with stones was carried out on the election coordination center of the Nation Alliance in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on April 28, 2023 which caused material damage at the office.

It is learned that the banner of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) in Giresun was removed upon the application of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) on the grounds that “it was hung in common used public area”.

(04/220) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on April 27, 2023 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

(04/221) Detained People in Tekirdağ…

It is learned that 4 people who were detained on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ in house raids in Tekirdağ on April 26, 2023, are arrested by the court on April 27, 2023. The names of arrested people are: Nursefa Yarar, Sercan Gündüz, Fırat Siyah and Metin Yegin.

It is learned that Sibel Balaç and İleri Kızılaltın, who were released from prison on suspension of execution, after the death fast they started to demand a fair trial, were detained in Sultangazi district of Istanbul on April 27, 2023.

(04/223) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against Sözcü newspaper’s executive editor Süleyman Hilmi Ak and executive Metin Sarıkınacı, over the expressions about the Hagia Sophia in a news report, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 2 on April 27, 2023. The court sentenced 2 people to 7 months and 15 days on the charge of ‘inciting hatred and hostility among public’ and postponed the sentences.

(04/224) Investigation Against Journalist in Van…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 27, 2023 that Van Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against journalist Oktay Candemir, over the news reports he made about İpekyolu district municipality to which a trustee was appointed, and that Oktay Candemir made his official statement through the investigation at a police station.

(04/225) HDP MP on Trial…

The trial against the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır MP Semra Güzel, who was detained on September 2, 2022 after her immunity was lifted and was arrested on September 3, 2022; is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 22 on April 28, 2023. Semra Güzel joined the trial via sound and vision system from prison. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of Semra Güzel and adjourned the trial to July 14, 2023.

(04/226) Party Executive on Trial in Ankara…

The final trial of the case against the Left Party Keçiören district chair Emre Ayduğan, on the grounds of participating in a protest, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 29 on April 28, 2023. The court sentenced Emre Ayduğan to 1 year and 6 months on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. The court postponed the sentence and ruled a ban of political activity for Emre Ayduğan.

(04/227) Konya/Meram Racist Attack Case…

The retrial of the case regarding the racist attack against the Dedeoğulları family members in Konya on May 12, 2021, in which 7 people were injured, is held at Konya Heavy Penal Court No. 8 on April 27, 2023, as the Konya Regional Court has overturned the local court’s verdict on the grounds that “an incomplete sentence was given based on an insufficient report and a document that does not have the quality of evidence”. The court sentenced the trial to September 19, 2023.

On October 28, 2022, Konya Heavy Penal Court No. 8 has sentenced 9 people to jail sentences ranging from 1 year to 6 years for ‘deliberate injury’ and acquitted them for ‘violation of the immunity of residence’, and decided to release 2 arrested defendants.

(04/228) Bans of 1 May Events…

It is learned that on April 27, 2023 Gebze district governorate’s office banned the 1 May Labour Day meeting of Gebze Unions’ Alliance, on the grounds that “the meeting area was not included in the areas for meetings and demonstrations stated by the district governorate’s office”.

(04/229) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

It is learned that 5 people were detained in operations covering 3 cities through an Ankara based investigation on April 28, 2023.
