(10/264) TMA Chair and HRFT Board Member Arrested…

Professor Şebnem Korur Fincancı, the Turkish Medical Association (TMA) chair and the HRFT executive board member, who was detained in her house in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on October 26, 2022 through the investigation of Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office on her statements to a news channel, is arrested by the court on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ on October 27, 2022.

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Faim Bozkurt) died in a clash during the Claw-Lock military operation of the Turkish Armed Forces in Zap area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on October 27, 2022.

(10/266) Torture and Ill-Treatment Under Custody in Ankara…

It is learned from the news coverage of October 26, 2022 that, journalist Öznur Değer who was detained through the Ankara based investigation against Mezopotamya News Agency and Jinnews Agency on October 25, 2022; was subjected to physical violence of the police as she was getting fingerprinted.

Emrullah Acar, stated the following to his lawyer about the torture and ill-treatment that Öznur Değer was subjected to: “Öznur and Mehmet were sitting in the aisle while they were taken for fingerprinting. The police warned Öznur and Mehmet not to talk to each other. Öznur was then forced to lie down on the ground and was handcuffed behind her back, as she reacted the officer. Then the police officer kicked her legs, grabbed her hair and dragged her to the detention vehicle.”

(10/267) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of October 26, 2022 that, journalist Derya Ren, who was detained through the Ankara based investigation against Mezopotamya News Agency and Jinnews Agency on October 25, 2022 and was arrested and taken to Diyarbakır Women’s Prison, was subjected to physical violence of the correction officers as she rejected strip search at the entrance of prison.

(10/268) Journalists Subjected to Police Violence in Ankara…

It is learned that the journalists were prevented and subjected to physical violence by the police from entering Ankara Courthouse where the TMA chair and the HRFT executive board member Professor Şebnem Korur Fincancı was referred on October 27, 2022; and that the identity cards of journalists were taken by the police on the grounds of an order.

(10/269) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the press declaration held in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on October 26, 2022, called by the Women Strong Together platform to protest detention of the TMA chair and the HRFT executive board member Professor Şebnem Korur Fincancı and of 11 journalists; and detained 57 people by using physical violence. Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

The police prevented journalists from recording. It is learned that Evrensel newspaper’s reporter Eylem Nazlıer was subjected to physical violence of the police and her phone was confiscated by the police. Eylem Nazlıer stated the following: “Even though I told the police that I was a journalist, they tried to detained me by choking me. I had my press card in hand, I was tortured by the police. They took my phone and press card from me and used a phrase like ‘this journalist is taking pictures’ to their chief”.

(10/270) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the press declaration held in front of Ankara Courthouse where the TMA chair and the HRFT executive board member Professor Şebnem Korur Fincancı was transferred to on October 27, 2022, and detained 5 people by using physical violence. Detained people (the Confederation of Public Employees’ Trade Unions [KESK] executive board member Döne Gevher Koyun, the Health and Social Services Workers’ Trade Union [SES] executive board member Gönül Adıbelli, former TMA central council member Selma Güngör, TMA Students’ Branch members Helin Çakır and Şirvan Çeliker) are released on the same day.

(10/271) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on October 25, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(10/272) Detained Journalists in Ankara, İstanbul, Van, Diyarbakır, Urfa and Mardin…

Journalist Zemo Ağgöz who was detained through an Ankara based investigation against Mezopotamya News Agency and Jinnews Agency on October 25, 2022, is released by the court on house confinement on October 26, 2022.

(10/273) Detained HDP Executives and Other Person in Adıyaman…

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Çelikhan district co-chair Hüseyin Uzun and former district co-chair Abuzer Yaman and another person whose name is not learned are detained in Adıyaman on October 26, 2022. The reason for detention is unknown.

(10/274) Arrested People in Izmir…

4 of 8 people (Kazım Özer, Dilara Su Kalpak, Tuğba Erol, Rena İzdeş) who were detained on the grounds of aiding Cebrail Gündoğdu who was detained in Menemen district of Izmir on October 22, 2022; are arrested by the court on October 26, 2022 while 3 of them are released. 1 person was released after statement procedures.

(10/275) Lawyers on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against lawyers Akçay Taşçı, Avni Güçlü Zengin, Eren Keskin, Gökmen Yeşil, Gülhan Kaya, Hüseyin Boğatekin, Kemal Aytaç, Sinan Zincir, and Yaprak Türkmen for the press declaration in front of Istanbul Courthouse on August 20, 2019 to protest trustee appointments to Diyarbakır, Mardin and Van metropolitan municipalities is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 58 on October 26, 2022. A police officer (C. V.) made a statement as the complainant. The court adjourned the trial to February 13, 2023.

(10/276) Musician on Trial in Istanbul…

It is learned that the ban of leaving the country which was ruled by Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 11 in the case against musician Gülşen Bayraktar Çolakoğlu, over the expressions she allegedly said at a concert, was lifted in return for a bail of 250,000 Turkish Liras on October 26, 2022.

(10/277) Police Raid to Office in Ankara…

The office of Ari Production in Ankara is raided by the police on October 26, 2022 through the investigation against Mezopotamya News Agency and Jinnews reporters. It is reported that there was nobody present at the office during the raid and that 2 hard disks, one tablet and technical equipment were seized.

(10/278) Ban of Protest in Istanbul…

It is learned that Kadıköy District Governorate’s Office banned the press declaration to be held in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on October 26, 2022 to protest detention of the TMA chair and the HRFT executive board member Professor Şebnem Korur Fincancı and of 11 journalists.

(10/279) Cancelled Concert in Zonguldak…

It is learned from the news coverage of October 26, 2022 that the Republic Day concert of musician Edip Akbayram to be held in Karadeniz Ereğli Municipality on October 29, 2022 was cancelled by the decision of the Zonguldak Governorate’s Office, on the grounds of the mine explosion in which 41 workers lost their lives in Amasra district of Bartın.
