(05/184) Prisoners whose Release was Postponed by the Prison Administration and Observation Board…
It is learned from the news coverage of May 26, 2025 that, release of Hasan Yakut, a prisoner in Antalya S Type Prison, who completed 11 years and 3 months of imprisonment on April 15, 2025, was postponed for 6 months on the grounds of ‘lack of good behaviour’ and ‘lack of remorse’ by Prison Administration and Observation Board on April 10, 2025.

25 of 46 people who were detained on May 23, 2025 within the scope of an investigation against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) were arrested by the Criminal Judgeship of Peace on May 27, 2025 on charges of ‘leading a criminal organization’, ‘being a member of a criminal organization’, ‘extortion’, ‘bribery’, ‘qualified fraud’, ‘unlawful acquisition of personal data’ and ‘bid rigging’. 21 people were released on judicial control conditions.

The indictment prepared by Mardin Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against journalist Öznur Değer was accepted by Mardin Midyat 1st Criminal Court of First Instance on May 25, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for Öznur Değer on the charge of ‘insulting a public official’. The first hearing of the case will be held on October 25, 2025.

The trial of the case against Sevtap Akdağ, Deputy Co-Chair of Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), continued on May 27, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 25. The indictment demands sentence for Sevtap Akdağ on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. After defenses the court released Sevtap Akdağ and adjourned the trial to September 30, 2025.
Sevtap Akdağ was detained on November 26, 2024 and was arrested by the criminal court of peace on November 30, 2024.

On May 26, 2025, the first trial of the case against 62 people who were detained in the police intervention against those who wanted to go to Taksim Square in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on May 1, 2024 for May 1, Labor Day, started at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 28. The indictment demands sentence for 62 people on the charge of ‘violating Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’. The court adjourned the trial to October 23, 2025.

The trial of the lawsuit filed against the Republican People’s Party (CHP) for the annulment of the 38th Ordinary Assembly held on November 4-5, 2023 and the 21st Extraordinary Assembly held on April 6, 2025 continued on May 26, 2025 at Ankara 42nd Civil Court of First Instance. The court adjourned the trial to June 30, 2025.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 26, 2025 that, Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office decided not to prosecute the investigation against 42 police officers, on the grounds of ‘lack of evidence sufficient to establish suspicion to initiate a public case’, in the investigation on 43 people who were detained by physical violence and handcuffed behind their backs during police intervention to the march to protest Israel on Istiklal Street in Beyoğlu, Istanbul on April 6, 2024.

On May 22, 2025, it is learned that DEM Party Çanakkale provincial office was attacked with stones. It is reported that material damage occurred and 1 person was detained in connection with the attack.

It is learned from news coverage of May 26, 2025 that journalist Furkan Karabay’s new social media account was banned to access on the grounds of protection of national security and public order in accordance with Article 8/A of Law No 5651.

61 military members on active duty who were detained in operations covering 36 cities through an Istanbul based investigation on May 23, 2025 are arrested by the Criminal Judgeship of Peace on May 26, 2025 on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organization member’. 1 person who was detained through the same investigation is released with judicial control measures of ‘ban on leaving the country’ and ‘signing a petition’.

On May 27, 2025, 54 people were detained in operations covering 6 cities (Istanbul, Kütahya, Kocaeli, Ankara, Samsun and Zonguldak) through an Istanbul based investigation on the allegations of ‘being a member of the current structure of the organization’ and ‘using ByLock’.

On 27 May 2025, 23 people were detained in operations covering 3 cities (Samsun, İstanbul, Ankara) through a Samsun based investigation on the allegations of ‘being a member of the current structure of the organization’ and ‘financing the organization’.
