(05/269) Person Injured by Police Fire in Antep…

On May 26, 2022, a person named Ümit Koçyiğit, who was alleged to carry out a suicide bomb attack outside of Antep Provincial Security Directorate, was injured by the fire opened by the police.

Antep Governorate’s Office stated the following in a statement: “The person in front of the main entrance gate of our Provincial Security Directorate, wearing a beret, coat, and with cables in front of his clothes and a black bag in his left hand, walked up on the officers on guard. Subsequently, the suspect was neutralized with a weapon by showing the necessary reaction by the officers in charge. In the study carried out by our bomb disposal teams, a fake bomb arrangement was detected, and the suspect was taken to a health institution.”

(05/270) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on May 27, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

The police intervened the justice watch of the Furkan Foundation members, demanding release of arrested members and executives, in Adana on May 25, 2022. It is learned that the police used physical violence to push the participators into the building where the Furkan Generation magazine has an office, and did not allow them to leave the building. It is reported that nobody was detained.

The police intervened the press declaration of Şişli Municipality workers in front of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) in Ankara on May 27, 2022 and forced people away from the building by using physical violence.

(05/273) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the press declaration held in front of Cumhuriyet newspaper’s office in Şişli district of Istanbul on May 26, 2022, demanding that the hunger strike of Sibel Balaç and Gökhan Yıldırım in prison to be announced to the public. The police detained 2 people (Merve Demirel and Hüseyin Kütük) by using physical violence.

(05/274) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration held in Yüksel Street in Ankara, to protest the jail sentence given to Nuriye Gülmen, the academician who was holding “I Want My Job Back” protests after being dismissed from her job by a state of emergency decree; and detained 3 people (Erkan Yıldırım, Ferdi Sarıkaya and Hasan Basri Yıldız) by using physical violence.

On May 27, 2022, 2 people (Demhat Gökalp and Özgür Sungur) are detained in house raids in Mersin. The reason of detention is unknown.

3 people (Hasan Süngü, Ali Ertürk, Rıza Çiçek) who were detained through an Adıyaman based investigation on May 24, 2022, are arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on May 26, 2022.

(05/277) Detained HDP Executive and Other People in Batman…

5 people including the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) provincial executive Sait Yaman who were detained in house raids in Batman on May 23, 2022, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on May 26, 2022.

(05/278) Former MP on Trial…

The trial of the case against former HDP MP Gülser Yıldırım, on the grounds of the speeches she gave between 2012 and 2016, is held at Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 3 on May 26, 2022.

Gülser Yıldırım joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. The court decided to continue detention of Gülser Yıldırım and adjourned the trial to May 26, 2022.

(05/279) Cancelled Concert in Ankara…

It is learned that the concert of Spanish-Armenian musician Ara Malikian, scheduled to be held in Ankara on June 11, 2022 as part of a festival organized by the Ministry of Culture, was cancelled on May 27, 2022 without any explanation. It is learned from the news reports that Ara Malikian has been targeted with racist expressions on social media for a while, and the festival officials did not inform the press about the reason for the cancellation.

(05/280) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On May 26, 2022, 32 people are detained in operations covering 23 cities through an Ankara based investigation and 15 people are detained in operations covering 3 cities through an Ankara based investigation.

(05/281) State of Emergency Commission Applications…

The State of Emergency Procedures Investigation Commission, made a declaration on May 27, 2022, and announced that 124,235 of the 127,130 applications made to the commission were decided, while the investigation continues for 2,895 applications. It is announced that 17,265 of the applications were concluded as accepted, while 106,970 were rejected, and a preliminary examination decision was made for 3,580 files.

(05/282) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 5 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 1,310 as of May 26, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 98,948 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 15,068,044 as of May 26, 2022.
