(07/181) Child Injured in Explosion in Van…

It is learned that a 12-year-old child (H. E., m.) was injured in the explosion of an object reported to belong to the security forces in the rural neighbourhood of Kirati, in Başkale district of Van, on 26 July 2022.

(07/182) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 2 soldiers (Mevlüt Yoğurtçu, Mert Otal) died in an attack against the Turkish Armed Forces units in the Euphrates’ Shield military operation zone in Syria on July 26, 2022.

(07/183) Journalist Subjected to Physical Attack in Urfa…

It is learned on July 26, 2022 that journalist Kerem Kırpaç was subjected to physical violence of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) mayor of Birecik district of Urfa.

Kerem Kırpaç stated the following to the press: “I work in Birecik as a member of the local press. Due to a different news I made a short time ago, Birecik Mayor Mr. Mahmut Mirkelam has hit my hand with a stick in front of a crowd and hurt my personal and professional pride. And then I was slapped by Mr. Mahmut Mirkelam for reporting the press release of another political party (HDP), on 25.07.2022.”

(07/184) Persons Subjected to Discriminatory Attacks in Diyarbakır…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 26, 2022, that 3 people who visited the Virgin Mary Church (Mor Yakup Church) in Sur district of Diyarbakır were threatened by a group outside the church, saying “Don’t go to the church, or we will kill you”.

One of the persons who were attacked stated the following to the press: “After staying in the church for about 45 minutes, we were walking again on the same route towards the main street, and two men came across us. One of them was a bearded man wearing a dark salwar suit and a black cap on his head. The other person was a person dressed in black. He said to us, ‘What are you doing in the church, aren’t you Muslims?’ Later, one of them showed us the gun on his waist and threatened us with death, saying, ‘Don’t go to this church, we will kill you’. His friend took his hand and said, ‘Stop, don’t do anything’, and he stopped touching his gun.”

It is learned from the news coverage of July 26, 2022 that, 6 prisoners in Van High Security Prison were being kept in solitary cells for 67 months. It is also stated in the news reports that social and cultural rights of prisoners were prevented, and their petitions to the Ministry of Justice were confiscated by the prison administration.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 26, 2022 that, prisoners in Van High Security Prison cannot receive dental care regularly.

It is learned that the appeal made on July 26, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

The police intervened the press declaration of Şişli Municipality workers in front of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) in Ankara on July 26, 2022 and forced people away from the building by using physical violence.

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on July 26, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(07/190) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened in the press declaration made by the Confederation of Public Employees’ Unions (KESK) Ankara Branches Platform on July 26, 2022 in the Çankaya district of Ankara, regarding the refusal of the lawsuit filed at the Council of State against the withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention. It is learned that 3 journalists were subjected to physical violence by the police during the police intervention. It is learned that nobody was detained.

The Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Istanbul provincial executive Selvinaz Göçmez is detained on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ on July 26, 2022.

(07/192) Detained HDP Member in Kars…

On July 26, 2022, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) member Gülcan Alp is detained on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ in house raids in Kars.

(07/193) Detained People in Hakkari…

On July 27, 2022, 6 people (Kemal Polat, Halit Polat, Şıvan Polat, Murat Polat, Nihat Polat and Şükrü Polat) are detained on the grounds of ‘aiding an illegal organisation’ in house raids in Zevkan village of Yüksekova district of Hakkari.

(07/194) DİAYDER Case…

The trial of the case against 23 members and executives of DIAYDER (Religious Scholars Solidarity Association) including 1 arrestee, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 14 on June 26, 2022.

After witness and defence hearings the court decided to send the case file to the prosecutor for legal opinion, rejected to release Ekrem Baran and adjourned the trial to October 21, 2022.

(07/195) Ban of Pride Week Events in Mersin…

All events such as meetings and attempts to assemble, press releases, marches, sit-ins, opening stands/tents, distribution of leaflets, hanging posters/banners, protest actions, festivals, sports competitions, panels, conferences, seminars, movie screenings and so on within the 8th Pride Week in Mersin, are banned for 15 days by the Governorate’s Office on July 26, 2022.

It is learned that the website of Etkin News Agency https://www.etha44.com is banned to access on the grounds of “protecting national security and public order” by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No 4 on July 26, 2022.

(07/197) Lifting Parliamentary Immunity Decision…

The Grand National Assembly Joint Commission, consisting of the Constitution and Justice Committees, decided to lift the immunity of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair and Diyarbakır MP Salihe Aydeniz on July 26, 2022.

(07/198) Dismissed Judge…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 27, 2022 that Maraş Tax Court member judge Sinan Çınar was dismissed from the profession by the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK).
