It is learned from the news coverage of February 27, 2024, that Socialist Women’s Assembly (SKM) Central Executive Committee member Ezgi Gürbüz was subjected to torture and ill-treatment by the police during a house raid in Istanbul.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 27, 2024, that, a person named Mazlum Ortaç was subjected to torture and ill-treatment by the police and was injured during a house raid in Istanbul.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 26, 2024, that disciplinary proceedings were initiated against prisoners in Izmir Type F High-Security Prison No 1 who participated in the hunger strike in prisons across Turkey demanding an end to the isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan and a democratic solution to the Kurdish issue.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 26, 2024, that in Izmir F Type High-Security Prison No 2, disciplinary proceedings were initiated against prisoners who went on hunger strike for the same reason and prisoners were given disciplinary penalties.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 27, 2024, that the house where People’s Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Istanbul MP Çiçek Otlu was reportedly residing was raided on February 27, 2024, and material damage occurred in the house.

On February 27, 2024, Human Rights Association (IHD) Prison Commission member Mehmet Acettin, Socialist Assemblies Federation (SMF) spokesperson Barış Kayaoğlu, SMF member Metin Keleş, Partizan magazine reader İbrahim Hakkı Eren, ESP members Ali Haydar Keleş, Ali Karaçay, Mesut Çeki, Hüseyin Gültepe, Uğur Ok, Hacer Elçin, SKM MYK member Ezgi Gürbüz and Selda Aydoğdu were detained in house raids in Istanbul. The reason for the detention could not be learned.

On February 27, 2024, SKM spokesperson Tanya Kara, SKM General Assembly member Meliha Kayacı, Confederation of Revolutionary Unions (DİSK) member T.K, Şerife Alpözel and Mahir Kılıç were detained in house raids in Izmir. The reason for the detention could not be learned.

On February 27, 2024, journalists Lokman Gezgin, Arif Aslan, and Oktay Candemir were detained in house raids in Van and taken to the Van Provincial Security Directorate. The reason for the detentions could not be learned. It is reported that a restriction order was imposed on the journalists’ files.

Musa Özsoy, the owner of the social media account Food Detective, was detained on February 26, 2024, due to a criminal complaint filed against him. Musa Özsoy was released after statement procedures on the same day.

(02/262) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The final hearing of the case against ETHA editor Nadiye Gürbüz, on the charges of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’, was held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 25 on February 27, 2024. The court acquitted the journalist.

Nadiye Gürbüz was detained on April 30, 2023, arrested on May 3, 2023, and released on October 12, 2023, on judicial control condition.

(02/263) The Trial of the Ankara Train Station Massacre…

On February 26, 2024, Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 4 continued the retrial of the case against 26 people, including 10 arrestees, in connection with the suicide bombing attack of ISIS against the Peace Rally in Ankara on October 10, 2015, in which 103 people lost their lives. The court adjourned the hearing to April 24, 2024.

The retrial of the case against lawyer Ruşen Seydaoğlu on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’ started on February 26, 2024, at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 8, following the reversal of the sentence of 6 years and 3 months given on March 1, 2022, by Diyarbakır Regional Court of Appeals. The court adjourned the trial to April 1, 2024.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 26, 2024, that in a speech he gave at a program on February 23, 2024, Nasuh Mahruki, Independent Mayor Candidate for Beşiktaş Municipality, made discriminatory statements by saying “No one has a problem with headscarves, but they have a problem with turbans. The turban is a symbol of political Islam and imperialism”.
