(12/245) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Hüseyin Korkmaz) died during the “Claw-Lock Operation” of the Turkish Armed Forces into the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on December 26, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 27, 2022 that, 11 HPG militants died in operations of the Turkish Armed Forces in Zap, Avaşin and Metina areas of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on November 5, 2022.

(12/246) Soldiers Injured in Diyarbakır…

It is learned that 6 soldiers were injured in the military armed vehicle which rolled over at Köprübaşı location of Diyarbakır-Silvan roadway on December 26, 2022.

(12/247) Journalist Died in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 26, 2022 that, the Istanbul Provincial Security Directorate initiated an examination on the death of Halk TV YouTube coordinator Uğur Yanıkel, who lost his life at the hospital after he was found unconscious in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on December 23, 2022.

It is learned that the appeal made on December 27, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

(12/249) Gendarmerie Intervention to a Protest in Izmir…

The gendarmerie intervened in the protest demanding reemployment of Erdoğan Çapaklı who was dismissed by Polyak Eynez Mining Company in Kınık district of Izmir on December 26, 2022, and detained at least 4 people including the Independent Miners Union (Bağımsız Maden-İş) chair Gökay Çakır by using physical violence.

The gendarmerie intervened in the protest once again on December 27, 2022 and detained 6 people including the union chair Gökay Çakır, organisation specialist Başaran Aksu and union representative Ozan Çetin by using physical violence.

(12/250) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the press declaration of the Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK) Culture and Art Assembly on December 26, 2022, in front of the French Consulate in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, to protest the attack on the Ahmet Kaya Culture and Art Center in Paris, the capital of France, and detained 14 people using physical violence. Detained people are released on the same day after the statement procedures.

(12/251) Detained DBP Co-Chair and Other People…

On December 23, 2022, 15 people including the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) co-chair were detained in house raids in 9 cities through a Diyarbakır based investigation. 2 of the detainees (DBP co-chair Keskin Bayındır and DBP Diyarbakır provincial co-chair Hayrettin Altun) are arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation’ while 13 people are released on judicial control conditions on December 26, 2022.

Detainees released on judicial control conditions are: DBP Diyarbakır provincial co-chair Seval Gülmez, Batman provincial co-chairs Rükiyete Onat Gönül and Burhan Eğlenti, Urfa provincial co-chairs Rabia Aslan and Hidayet Enmek, Antep provincial co-chairs Ethem Önal and Zeliha Aslan, Şırnak provincial co-chair Zeki İrmez, Mardin provincial co-chairs Şerafettin Aslan and Süreyya Dündar, Ağrı provincial co-chair Melik Özmüş, Van provincial co-chairs Şengül Polat and Harun Okay.

(12/252) Detained HDP Members and Executives in Istanbul…

10 members and executives of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) who were detained in house raids in Istanbul on December 23, 2022 are released after statement procedures on December 26, 2022.

Detained people were: HDP Sancaktepe district executive Kerim Kılıç, Ahmet Özbey, Melek Akdoğan, Şükran Altunkaynak, Devran Kaya, Muhittin Güler.

It is learned that 4 members of HDP Youth Assembly (Yılmaz Tankan, Faruk Küçükçelebi, Mücahit Kılıç, Celal Döner) who were detained in house raids in Muş on December 23, 2022 are released after statement procedures on December 26, 2022.

It is learned that 3 people (Yusuf Karadağ, Burkan Erdemir, Azize Onat) who were detained in house raids in Van on December 23, 2022 are released after statement procedures on December 26, 2022.

(12/255) Detained People in Ankara…

5 people who were detained in house raids in Ankara on December 21, 2022 are released by the court on December 23, 2022 provided that 1 of them will be on judicial control conditions. Detained people were: Mehmet Dersulu, İsmail Cengiz Mumcu, Ömer Akyel, Şengül Özdemir and Turan Aktaş.

(12/256) Deniz Poyraz Case…

The final trial of the case at Izmir Heavy Penal Court No. 16 against Onur Gencer, for killing Deniz Poyraz in the armed attack against Izmir office of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) on June 17, 2021, is held in Aliağa Şakran Prison compound on December 27, 2022.

The indictment demands heavy life imprisonment and jail sentence up to 7 years for Onur Gencer on the charges of ‘intentional killing’, ‘violation of immunity of residence’ and ‘qualified damage to buildings, premises or moveable property owned or used by a political party, a professional organization having the status of a public institution or a higher federation of such’.

It is learned that the lawyers with licence were not allowed in the prison compound and the lawyers who wanted to see the court board were forced to detailed search. The court sentenced Onur Gencer to heavy life imprisonment on the charge of ‘intentional killing’, to 4 years on the charge of ‘damage to property’, to 2 years on the charge of ‘violation of immunity of residence’ and to 3 years on the charge of ‘violation of the Law on Firearms’.

(12/257) Union Executives and Members on Trial in Ankara…

The trial of the case against 8 people, including the Health and Social Service Workers’ Union (SES) co-chair several central executive board members, is held at the Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 22 on December 26, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for former co-chairs Gönül Erden and Bedriye Yorgun, current co-chair Selma Atabey, former central executive board members Belkıs Yurtsever and Fikret Çağlayan, former Ankara Branch executives Rona Temelli, Erdal Turan and Ramazan Taş, on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. After defence hearings, the court decided to continue detention of Gönül Erden and Selma Atabey and adjourned the trial to March 13, 2023.

Gönül Erden was among those who were detained on May 25, 2021 through the investigation on members and executives of SES, and was released on June 1, 2021. She was detained once again on September 21, 2021 upon the prosecutor’s appeal and was arrested by the court. Selma Atabey was arrested at the trial of the case held on July 4, 2022.

(12/258) Investigation for Justice Watch in Urfa…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 27, 2022 that, Urfa Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against Emine Şenyaşar for her justice watch in front of Urfa Courthouse. On June 14, 2018, Justice and Development Party Urfa MP candidate İbrahim Halil Yıldız and his personal guards had a quarrel with shopkeepers in Suruç district of Urfa which resulted in death of Emine Şenyaşar’s husband Hacı Esved Şenyaşar and her sons Adil and Celal Şenyaşar. It is reported that there are 17 investigations and 6 cases against Emine Şenyaşar for her justice watch so far.
