(04/207) May 14, 2023 General Elections…

It is learned that 4 journalists (Mezopotamya News Agency editor Abdurrahman Gök and reporter Mehmet Şah Oruç, Jinnews reporter Beritan Canözer, and Remzi Akkaya) of 128 people including journalists, political party executives, lawyers and artists who were detained in house raids in 21 cities through a Diyarbakır based investigation on April 25, 2023, are arrested by the court on April 27, 2023. 2 lawyers (Gurbet Özbey Öner and Jiyan Abdüssemedoğlu) are released on judicial control conditions.

The Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Party Assembly and Election Coordination member Aziz Taşkın was detained through the Diyarbakır based investigation, in Aydın on April 27, 2023.

The Greens and Left Future Party (YSP) Kocaeli deputy candidate Ayten Dönmez who was detained in Istanbul on April 26, 2023 is arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation’.

The police stopped the campaign convoy of YSP in Ankara on April 26, 2023, and detained 3 people. It is reported that 3 people were subjected to physical violence of the police and at least one of them was injured. It is also learned that the police intervened in the journalists saying “You are not journalists, you are terrorists” and prevented them from recording the intervention.

It is learned that journalists Ruşen Takva, Kadir Cesur and Sıddık Güler were prevented from entering the area of YSP rally in Van on April 26, 2023, on the grounds of “not having turquoise press cards”. It is reported that journalists were then allowed in the area.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 27, 2023 that, the rally of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) to be held in Erzurum on May 3, 2023 was first allowed by the governorate’s office but then was cancelled on the grounds of “security” and lastly was moved to the news rally area in the city.

(04/208) Police Intervention to March in Diyarbakır…

2 people were detained by the police intervened in the march in Diyarbakır on April 25, 2023 to protest detention of politicians, journalists, lawyers, artists and other people through a Diyarbakır based investigation. 1 person (Tümen Anlı) is released on judicial control conditions and 1 person (Serhat Eren) is released on house confinement on April 26, 2023.

(04/209) Gendarmerie Intervention to Protest in Mersin…

The gendarmerie intervened in the group protesting the opening ceremony of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant in Mersin on April 27, 2023 and detained 3 people [the Workers’ Party of Turkey (TİP) Mersin deputy candidate Hakan Güneş, Anti-Nuclear Platform member Hasan Uğur and 1 more person]. 3 people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

(04/210) Detained People in Tekirdağ…

It is learned that 4 people were detained on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ in house raids in Tekirdağ on April 26, 2023. The names of detained people could not be learned.

(04/211) Detained People in Şırnak…

On April 26, 2023, 20 people including a village local authority were detained in house raids in villages of İdil district of Şırnak. The names of detained people could not be learned.

(04/212) Journalists on Trial in Van…

The trial of the case against Mezopotamya News Agency grant holder Ferhat Çelik and Jiyan TV grant holder İdris Yayla, is held at Van Heavy Penal Court No. 2 on April 26, 2023. The case was opened for the news reports titled “It is the same prosecutor giving the detention order for journalists”, regarding the journalists who were detained after making news reports about the incident in Çatak district of Van where 1 person died and 1 person was injured as a result of being thrown from a helicopter. The indictment demands sentence for the journalists on the charge of ‘targeting officers who took charge in fight against terrorism’. The court adjourned the trial to May 4, 2023.

(04/213) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against journalist Canan Kaya, for the news report titled “Demirören is reaching the end of the road: What did Ziraat Bank ‘trustees’ want? We are explaining with dates!”, published on Medya Koridoru news portal on November 26, 2021, is held at Istanbul Civil Court of First Instance No. 39 on April 27, 2023. The court adjourned the trial to July 18, 2023.

(04/214) Lawyer on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against lawyer Newroz Uysal, through an investigation on the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 10 on April 26, 2023. The court acquitted Newroz Uysal.

(04/215) Investigation Against Police Officers in Ankara…

It is learned that Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office decided non-prosecution on the criminal complaint of journalists Sibel Yükler, Yıldız Tar and Deniz Nazlım, who were subjected to physical violence and were detained by the police intervening in the press declaration held in Ankara on July 5, 2022 to protest arrest of journalists in Diyarbakır. The prosecutor’s office stated that “there is no sufficient evidence of that law enforcement officers have committed the crimes of wilful injury and torture by exceeding the limit of their authority to use force”.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 26, 2023 that the article of Zeynep Altıok Akatlı, titled “Primitiveness in the Home of Science” published on https://www.birgun.net is banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Izmir Penal Court of Peace No. 4.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 26, 2023 that, the news report about allegations that the Ministry of Health application “e-pulse” was sold to Qatar, published on https://t24.com.tr is banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No. 9.

(04/217) Earthquakes in Antep and Maraş…

The Minister of Family and Social Services made a statement on April 26, 2023 and declared that a total of 1,914 unaccompanied children were registered in the system, 1,812 of them were identified and given to their families, 25 children were in the hospital, 68 children were in the institutions of the ministry, and 12 children could not be identified.
