(04/260) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned that 3 soldiers (Aygün Çakar, Mustafa Çalım, Mehmet Kıvık) died and 6 soldiers got wounded in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on April 26, 2021.

It is learned that 3 soldiers got wounded in an armoured military vehicle that rolled over in rural areas of Hakkari on April 26, 2021.

(04/261) Journalists Subjected to Police Violence in Ankara…

It is learned that Mezopotamya News Agency reporters Diren Yurtsever and Selman Güzelyüz, who was following the Kobanê case in Ankara on April 26, 2021, were subjected to physical violence of the police preventing them. It is reported that the police said “We have been ordered by our chief to not to keep Mezopotamya Agency here”.

(04/262) Police Intervention to HDP Protest and Detained Journalists in Istanbul…

The police intervened the press declaration in front of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Istanbul office, regarding the Kobanê case in Ankara on April 26, 2021. The police detained 2 journalists (Mezopotamya News Agency reporter Enes Sezgin and Artı TV cameraman Bilal Meyveci) who were released after statement procedures.

(04/263) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the sit-in protest in Bakırköy Square of Istanbul on April 26, 2021, organized by public employees to demand their jobs back from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees, and detained 2 people (Nursel Tanrıverdi and Hüseyin Kütük).

(04/264) Police Intervention to Protests in Istanbul…

The police intervened the press declaration of Association of Families of Prisoners (TAYAD) demanding release of ill prisoner Ali Osman Köse, in front of the Forensic Medicine Institute in Bahçelievler district of Istanbul on April 26, 2021; and detained 3 people (Hasan Basri Yıldız, Bengisu Demirel and Cemil Kurt). Detained people are released on the same day.

(04/265) Police Prevention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police prevented the press declaration in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on April 26, 2021, to protest the police intervention against people who resist against the stone pit project in Işkencedere valley of Ikizdere district of Rize. It is learned that the declaration was held in Republican People’s Party (CHP) Kadıköy district office.

(04/266) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the press declaration of Community Houses members demanding “Suspend the Patent for Vaccines” in front of Istanbul Şişli Etfal Hospital on April 26, 2021. It is learned that nobody was detained in the police intervention.

(04/267) Detained City Council Members, Political Party and Association Members and Executives in Diyarbakır…

On April 26, 2021, 11 people including HDP, Democratic Regions Party (DBP), Mezopotamya Language and Culture Research Association (MED-DER) members and executives and city council members in Yenişehir, Bağlar and Kayapınar districts are detained on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, in house raids in Diyarbakır.

Some of the detained people are: HDP executives Ramazan Karakaya, Hamit Onur, Murat Öndeş, Sadık Tosun, Kadri Akkaya, DBP Diyarbakır former provincial co-chair Mehmet Bakır, MED-DER co-chair Rıfat Roni, Yenişehir city council member Mehmet Zeki Bağcık, Bağlar city council member Nurettin Bakan, Kayapınar city council member Songül Dağ Kapancı.

(04/268) Kobanê Case…

The first trial of the case against 108 members and executives 28 of whom are arrestees including HDP former co-chairs, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 22 on April 26, 2021.

The police prevented the press declaration of a group including HDP co-chairs before the trial.

It is learned that some of the places in the courtroom which should be given to lawyers were filled by riot police members and 100 lawyers were not allowed in the courtroom on the grounds of lack of place. Figen Yüksekdağ, Selahattin Demirtaş, Ali Ürküt, Cihan Erdal, Nazmi Gür, Ayhan Bilgen, Emine Ayna, Sebahat Tuncel joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system while other arrested politicians attended the trial in person. As the chief judge declared that 100 lawyers would not be allowed in the courtroom on the grounds of precautions for Covid-19 pandemic, a dispute took place between the court board and lawyers which resulted in lawyers leaving the courtroom. Defendant politicians did not answer identification questions of the court board as their lawyers left the room. The court board rejected the request of recusal and adjourned the trial to May 3, 2021.

(04/269) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against journalist Durket Süren is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 11 on April 26, 2021.

The indictment demands jail sentence for Durket Süren from 1 year to 8 years, on the charge of ‘aiding an illegal organisation’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, for her social media posts and distributing banned issues of Azadiya Welat and Özgür Gündem newspapers which are closed down by state of emergency decrees.

After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to September 20, 2021.

(04/270) Police Officers on Trial in Istanbul…

The indictment of Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Officer against 3 police officers (K. A., N. D. and Y. Ş.) on the grounds of committing violence to journalist Beyza Kural while she was reporting on an incident, is accepted by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 3 on April 26, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for the defendant police officers on the charge of ‘violation of freedom of work and labour’. The Constitutional Court decided on Beyza Kural’s individual appeal on February 18, 2021 and ruled that ban of treatment against human dignity, and freedom of expression and freedom of press were violated. The court has also ruled that an investigation should be carried on in order to end the results and 15,000 Turkish Liras should be paid to Beyza Kural as immaterial compensation.

(04/271) Investigation Against Bar Association Board in Diyarbakır…

It is learned that on April 26, 2021 Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation on the charge of ‘degrading Turkish nation, the Republic of Turkey and institutions of the state’, against Diyarbakır Bar Association chair and board members, for the declaration on Armenian Genocide.

(04/272) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

It is learned that a warrant is issued against 532 people including 459 military members on active duty, through an Izmir and Istanbul based investigation and that 400 of them are detained in operations covering 62 cities.

(04/273) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 353 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,716 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on April 26, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 37,312.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 38,711 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 4,667,281 as of April 26, 2021.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared on April 26, 2021 that a continuous curfew will be in place as of 19.00 on April 29, 2021 until 05.00 on May 17, 2021; apart from exceptional conditions as stated.
